"Brazil" is one of the best films of the '80's. "Revolution" is so-so, but looks great & has a bit of an epic sweep (& Nastassja's always worth watching).
I also loved it it. Two of the most charismatic and likeable actors in the movies brought it home. The closest thing I've seen to this is the romance between Michael Douglas and Annette Benning in The American President.
Heard Jennette Kahn of Aliens say that Revolution was such an unexpected bomb at the time that they changed their attitude about movies and decided they would never be able to predict which one of their movies would be a hit.
Reminds me of when the big hit of Summer '81 was going to be a dumb Chevy Chase comedy called Under The Rainbow and Raiders of The Lost Ark was going to be a flop.
I dont understand. What does Jennette Kahn have to do with Aliens? She was a publisher and past president of DC comics. She oversaw Batman vs Predator series but that’s about it. Jenette Goldstein played Vasquez on Aliens. If that’s the case and you wrote the wrong name then you are a moron. Double check your work you twit.
Revolution 37 years later and with its preferred cut available thanks to the director shaving 10 minutes, the film is actually pretty good now. It's no masterpiece by any means necessary but it could have been saved in the editing room back then, had the studio cared about the work rather than award considerations.
"Taken all the dream sequences and thrown them out." So - literally the entire POINT of the movie. Got it, Gene. lol It really does amaze me how certain films just sailed right over their heads at the time.
Wow, I never saw Brazil (I do have it, though! I think that it’s still at my parents house . I bought it a few years ago, I just never saw it.), but it’s considered a classic now . I thought that basically ALL of the critics liked it(I believe even Paueline Kael liked it, and she was VERY selective in her reviews !)! I’m surprised . Isn’t there an uncut version too?
A lot of people said they liked Brazil because it was a critical favorite, myself included. In retrospect I think Gene and Roger were right. I liked Murphy's Romance a lot.
Those clips alone are embarrassing, especially the part when Pacino was yelling at that dude about his bonus pay. Did Al think he was being heroic ? Yelling at someone because they just happen to be in front of you doesn't make you a hero. You just come off as an obnoxious jerk.
Murphys Romance is predictable and has a made for TV feel to it but it became above average for me because of Garners performance. For me he sold the movie and made it worthwhile.

I enjoy Murphy's Romance a lot because it's kind funny & warm-hearted also love the chemistry between Garner & Field 👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟

@@theolamp5312 yeah..if only The American President was really like that

I just found Revolution on UA-cam. After watching it I that it was pretty good.
Another great episode
Revolution was so bad that it caused Al Pacino to not act in movies for 5 years.
Yup.
I like their commentary about The Color Purple 🟣.
Hogwash!!! Brazil is brilliant!!! Old Eggbert was asleep at the switch on that one!!! 😂
They both blew it. Brazil is one of my all time favorites.
@@ricardocantoral7672It looked great, but a person would need a PHD to understand what the hell was going on.
Brazil is overrated.

Revolution is silly 😜!

@@ricardocantoral7672 He should of yelled "Attica!"
Only beef I have is Pacino still sounded too much like Tony Montana.

James Garner could elevate a film, easily. He was a latter day Spencer Tracy.
He received an Oscar nomination for it.
I think Revolution is an underrated movie. Definitely a lot better than “The Patriot”
I'm the reverse - I liked The Patriot, but I couldn't stand Revolution 😁!
Murphy's Romance is flawless
