I performed this 'surgery' on my TXNR1007 about one month ago and it's worked ever since. Mine had completely failed (No sound no matter what - I use only the pre-outs from this receiver connected to an ADCOM amp) Not only has it functioned perfectly ever time since but the continual hard-wire network problem I've had is also resolved. That connection is now rock solid as well. Just wanted to express my appreciation for the video. It does just as it says and, at least for 4 weeks, stays fixed. Many thanks, Randy
Hi Rob. Thank you for this magic method!!! It works even in Russia. Now I've got back to life my TX-NR609. In the end of heating process (Whirpool oven) temperature was 210C, although I set it on 190C. But it was not a problem for the card. My wife was really surprised when she saw me near her oven and some electronic unit inside. Now we can listen Metallica, Megadeth, Helloween and others unfortunately for our neighbors... СПАСИБО!!! Alexey Golyshkov, Moscow.
A thousand times 'Thank you' for this video. I just replugged my card and started the amp and sound started immediatly ! I just hope this fix is permanent. Only time will tell.
Rob, Thanks so much for your video. You brought back to life my TX-NR708. It sat in the media console for almost a year and I was this close to buying a replacement. The video was easy to follow and receiver is as good as new.
Thank you!!! Worked like a charm on my 808. Been fighting the "no sound" problem for a while. Not sure how you developed the "cooking recipe", but it sure enough worked. Nice work & thanks for sharing.
Thank you, I'm impressed. Tried this about a month ago on my Onkyo TX-SR707, so far so good, not a single problem with audio. Hopefully it will continue to function properly.
Hi rob, you're my idol Many thanks for detailed explanations I have saved me a lot of money and heartache I acted according to the instructions and now everything is working right Also the option to upgrade the network and software have been corrected TX-NR 709
As weird as it is. This method WORKS!My HT-R590 has been showing loss of sound on all HDMI ports. Using hair dryer directed at DTS chip suddenly revives the sound. So I tried this procedure. After baking the board it works now as usual.
Looks like a broken cold solder is the root cause. Judging by the wide range of models affected, I would speculate that the problem lies within the IC itself as it is unlikely that a PCB process issue will affect only one part (the IC was not decontaminated before solder balling it). I would add to Rob's fix a bake cycle to minimize/eliminate possible de-lamination of this or other component due to moisture popping the devices during high temp quick bake. 5-6 hours bake at 60-70 degrees Celsius (better yet, overnight) and then apply the fix described here right away, if you let it sit, moisture will seep in again. Kudos to Rob for posting this. I will try it if Onkyo does not come through.
WOOOOOWWWW!!!!! It worked according your description... Coming back from holiday was a bad surprise. I bought new AVR but no Onkyo anymore. With the old crap I tried the HDMI board cooking and it worked fine, but I will stay with the new. Big thanks for that!!!
Let me just say.....YES, IT DOES WORK... Do what Rob has explained in the video exactly... First note, 150 degrees Celsius is 300 degrees Fahrenheit and 190 degrees Celsius is 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Hope this helps!, And thanks Rob!

Well thanks VERY much for that video Rob -Worked for me! Although I must admit it took a second attempt due to not leaving temperature get to 190 deg before starting 8-9 minute timer!
tx-nr709 fixed!!! :) uzing your method, thanks so much, and i dont need to use hair dryer any more, you just made another russian happy, THANKS!!! 7/20/2015
I had the same problem, but on onkyos homepage they have a free pickup and fix service. UPS picked up my TX717 after 1 day ...3 days later I had it back free of charge and working perfect!
Genial !!! J'allais jeter mon TX_NR609. Je n'ai pas eu à démonter la carte avec 10 minutes de sèche cheveux puissant à 110 degrés sur le processeur et c'est reparti. au deuxième essaie !!!!. Si le problème revient je tenterai le four. MERCI MERCI à Rob. Thank you Rob.
+974k ProD (Visuals videos concept.)

+Johnny Onkyo thank you a TON for this. I did exactly what you said, entered my unit serial number (despite my unit being already OUT of its standard warranty)... and sure enough... it worked. I received all of the packaging sent to my house... with instructions. I packaged everything up using the packaging you sent, took it back to fedex facility, and simply dropped it off at the desk, on a monday, and then received the unit back, in full working order, the next tuesday (so 8 days from the point I shipped it to them, I already had it back fixed.) AMAZING. Despite my frustrations with having this problem in the first place, you have earned my business. Thank you. Very pleased.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I also suddenly experienced random 'no sound' problems on my Onkyo TX-TR717. In the beginning turning the receiver off and back on helped, but after a while I had to do this 4, 5, sometimes even 10 times. I 'baked' my HDMI board according to the instructions in your video and it worked perfectly. There were a couple more connectors to disconnect though. I have to admit that I was a bit worried, especially when the oven started to produce a strange odor. Believe me, it didn't smell like cookies :-). As a loyal Onkyo fan, I have to say that I'm disappointed by the quality of the latest devices. This is the third device dying on me (2nd A/V receiver and a DVD player). As of now no more Onkyo products for me.
It happend to me as well. Both my 5008 and 5509 have exact the same no sound problem. The local Onkyo service center would fix it for $600 to replace the HDMI board. Very disappointed about the poor qualtiy of these Onkyo receivers. On the other hand, I have to adimit that the sound of these receivers are excellent, unfortunately they have these no sound problem after a few years of services. Julian
I sent my receiver TX-NR717 to Onkyo and they payed everything. I think they solved this problem perfectly =) No guarantee but they still did it on good will. Just contact them and they will fix it

Hi Rob, great video..Thank You. My Onkyo TX-NR709 fell to the HDMI board/DTS chip problem after months of service. When the temp dropped in the household for the winter, I noticed the sound dropping off periodically then finally, no sound. I was timid to bake the card in the oven, so I used a heat gun as some others have done. It took longer, but I noticed something interesting on my HDMI board's DTS Chip and many other chips. There is a small splash of solder on 5-6 chips. I was working with the DTS specifically as instructed, tin foil, left opening on top of foil. I was using a Infrared Thermometer Detect Gun and the temp was questionable on chip itself as hot air gun temp was a starting point, but not accurate enough. However, when heating with the gun, I noticed the solder splash drop on top of the DTS Chip balled up, and looked wet or had a shine for about 10 minutes of heat. I stopped the heat, the splash drop leveled out and returned to a dull grey. Does it make sense for those without this solder drop to merely add one for heat reference or testing? I re-installed the HDMI board, and VIOLA! It works once again! Thanks again Rob.

Johnny Onkyo . Thanks for the URL. I just checked it out, and the Special Service Program is available for my 616. Think I'm going with the option to get a rebate check on the purchase of a new 737.
Johnny Onkyo Thanks so much for the information. I'm excited to report that my TX-NR709 IS eligible for the support program. I seriously doubt I would opt for the Trade In allowance as the offer was only $150.00. Thus, I am sending the unit for the program repair under the extended warranty. You were right on the money about the HDMI Board NOT being "issue resolved". After 3 months of working in perfect fashion, the sound failed, sadly, again. Just a week ago the home theater was shut down; I felt defeated. Especially after the initial work I had done being successful, and Viola! I want to thank you for your reply as I might have just given up without your efforts. Thank You Sir. I do have one question: On some of the chips, there is a "small drop of solder" ( this is the best description I can muster). When heating the board with my heat gun, I knew the temp was appropriate as the solder had turned into a small splash. Is this from manufacturing or from Re-manufacturing? A heat reference? Testing or checking for future support issues? Just curious... Thanks again, Michael Kusher
Michael Kushner So, here's an update: My Onkyo returned from repair with Center Channel not working. Sent it back with same Return Authorization number for "re-work". I got it back about 10 days ago. Set up the system AGAIN, new Speakers (for the Wide position), new Wires etc. It was playing fine, tested great. Then 2 days ago there was an event I can describe as "as arcing". Inside above the DTS/HDMI board and below the cover, and white arc about 2 inches shorted the system, the lights dimmed, went back on and the smell of a fired resister, transistor or other component filled the air. I unpluged it, and looked inside for damage. You could not see any physical damage, no burnt component or pc board burns. Called support, got the okay for a return and I await for the email from Onkyo to ship the unit back once again. There is no reason for this. I feel like a guinea pig getting samples to test on my A/V Theater system. I am truly unhappy once again with this "event". To send out a unit with no Center Channel or not tested makes me think they have a proven fix for the No Sound Repair ( as they have a return program already in place) and some of the boards are not tested as they should be. Then to send out a unit with Shorting, arcing but not blowing fuses is REALLY BAD. Am I an unusual case for this? I hope so for all of the customers going through the repair program. At this moment, I am still a fan of Johnny Onkyo. But his advice is leaving me LESS CONFIDENT every day that goes by without my A/V system up and running. Johnny: MY ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED. FED EX, GREAT. EVERYTHING ELSE, NOT HAPPY.
Michael Kushner Day 4: Still waiting for a email with shipping label. This is getting to be a sorry looking support day for Onkyo. I'll call tomorrow. Registered on the support site, but it takes a full day to be acknowledged by the webmaster. I'm getting upset because I don't have my A/V up and running!
I tried this method today and worked fine and I have sound and network menu is not grayed out any more. I put the board in the oven for 3min exactly at 150c or 302f then changed it to 190c or 375f after initial 3 min, waited for the oven to reach 190c or 375f while the board was still in the oven and started my timer for 9 min exactly. Took it out of the oven and put the board back in and looks like everything is bak to normal. Thank you
Onkyo will repair this No-Sound problem for you.. They send you a FedEx box for your receiver. You send it to them, they repair it and send it back working. Go to the Onkyo web page. Click support-> special_service_program-> Loss of Audio/Network Customer Program Follow the instructions. FYI, the serial number is a paper 16 digit number on the back bottom of the Receiver. DON'T ENTER the LAST digit.
Ira, you just saved me a fair chunk of money. Thank you. I was ready to take this into my local Best Buy and let them try to figure it out and charge me a ton of money. You've saved me. www.onkyousa.com/Support/service_info.php
titan041512 Glad to hear that. I just received my repaired Onkyo back. They paid FedEx both ways. It works great now. They wiped it back to factory defaults so there is some setup to do to get all the HDMIs and network streaming services up again. It was well worth it.
Ira Hart I entered the 16 digit serial number for my dead NR609 and it very graciously tells me that 'This Unit/Serial number does not need this update' (clearly it does- it's broken!). It has no sound, the speaker lights are not showing, and I bought my receiver in 2012 (made 2009-2012) so should fit squarely in their "Special Service" program. Any suggestions (other than calling them and sitting on hold for hours- did that)?
***** I was able to call them and talk to someone. Try calling right when they open. The guy was pretty helpful. Have the NR609 and your computer (not ipad/iphone) nearby. He will walk you through the data entry.
This worked brilliantly, with only exception that mine stoped working again after a few months, did it again and worked as a charme second time, but again, after a few months it stopped working (same problem as last time). I have now re-bagged it and had it in oven for the third time and waiting for everything to chill down as im writing this and im thinking, would it help to put on some weight on the chip, and not just rely on gravity to make it stay down while the sodder hardens? Any further advice? Im assuming it will work now again when i take everthing together but do you think i should just keep the reciever on all the time? The issue accures when i've turned the unit off for a day and im trying to turn it back on. Was thinking about contacting ONKYO Support allso, but im pretty sure i dont got coverage on my unit no more now since it's been it the oven 3 times :P Thanks alot for the video, been keeping my reciever alive for like half a year! :D
I have an NX 807 and of course NO sound problem hit me like a rock. First I Re-heated the DTS chip professionally. It lasted for 2 weeks. The I bought another DTS chip and replaced the old one. I've got another mouth and a half of sound. When I measured the temperature on the chip It never got hotter than 70 C. Now the only solution seems to be the hole board replacement. How long did your repairs lasted ???
Hi Rob, I have a question: in my case, it's not just the HDMI input sound that isn't working, but every sound input stopped working at the same time (just about 30 minutes ago...preceded by a loud pop). Optical, HDMI, radio...none of them work. Will this fix address that, or does this issue only affect HDMI input sound?
Yep i ser others already commented this. I worked in an electronic factory and I think the melting point of the solder is around 182 degrees. might be higher if it is lead free. If you bought some flux and gently added this to the legs of the failing component you would have an even better connection. I haven't looked into if it is with legs or the soldering under the chip though.
BGA chip I see now. And better explanations also. I also refitted BGA components at my job. Pain in the ass to get the solder removed and reapplied. Not something I would do in an oven at home.
Hi Rob, first, thank you for the video for sharing the information. I had 709 w/ no sound.... I followed your instruction and it works but.... after two month, no sound again... any suggestion?
Hi kevin Well you can try the procedure once again. And make sure that your amp is not placed in a narrow space where it can't get rid of it's heat. Some boards are damaged beyond repair so then there is nothing elso to do then replace the board. Good luck. Rob
I have a Onkyo TX-NR807. It has no audio or video through the HDMI. I contacted Onkyo support and was told there is a special program to address this issue. I was given another number to call 201-785-2600. I was given a web site for parts and service. I input the serial number and it said it was covered, they are going to fix it and they are sending me a box, packaging, and a return label. My faith in Onkyo is restored. I believe that more than one model is covered. I hope this helps.
I actually just finished this, and it worked (at least for now). What are your experiences, how long will this fix usually last, before you're forced to repeat it? My symptoms with Onkyo TX-NR609 included firstly "disappearing sound", which, at first, returned after restarting the receiver. Then it started to lose the sound more often, and it the sound often didn't return with the restart. The sound started popping, and usually when the popping increased in pace, the sound disappeared (icons stayed on at this point, but when trying to immediately restart the unit, they didn't turn on anymore (and no second click on the restart)). I was able to return the sound even with the unit staying powered (after the sound disappeared), when I blew hot air into it with the hair dryer. I would hear a click, and the sound would return, for an hour or so, and then disappear again. Thus, I suspected that the very problem on my unit was the same than on the case in the video. I cooked the chip covered in aluminium foil, holes on the place of every BGA chip (not just the DTS one). Works fine at the moment. Hopefully it stays that way for a while. :) Thanks for the video.
+Tane Norther Well, unfortunately the fix didn't last more than one week for me. I left the device on when went to bed, and when I woke up, it had shut itself down. I restarted the device, and no second *pop*, no sound, and no audio icons on the front screen. "Remote Controller setup" it blacked out (like priorly). Picture shows, but no audio. But this time, the sound doesn't come on when blowing hot air with hair dryer, like before. I tried to repeat the oven trick, no luck. I think this unit's spent. Sadly the oven fix did not work more than a week only, for me. :/
Hi Rob, my Onkyo TX-NR808 suddenly has no video thru HDMI. I changed sources, replaced hdmi cables, connected to another TV and nothing. If I connect the source directly to the TV it works fine. Could it also be the HDMI board? If so, same procedure, or a different chip? Thanks
Check with Onkyo support first to see if they can fix it. They are fixing sound channels for free for model years 2009-2012. Anyway they fixed mine for free. Its a manufacturing problem on these years.
My Onkyo was working (well enough) until I tried plugging it into a normal speaker to test something out in another room. NO sound came out, but it did make that 'second click' and shows the radio playing. No static or anything else comes from any of the speakers I have tried. I know the connections are good, and I originally had it plugged into my whole house system. Any idea why it could have suddenly lost its sound?
I put some heart sink on dts chip after reflow and also placed 2 12v funs on the inside, one to blow cold air inside and one to drag the hot air outside and my avr has been running for months without going off again. Actually I didn't use the bulb but used heat gun, to heat it hotter for 2minutes.
Hi, i have an audio issue to with my onkyo, but not only with HDMI, ive also had trouble even if i plug my bluray into optical or coaxial.... is it the same problem even if my audio didnt come from hdmi?
Sorin Petcu I get the problem, repaired under warrranty, so I put a fan onto the PCBA... and one year later a get the same problem again... but no more warranty >>> straight to the trash >>>never an aother onkyo device
In my TX-NR905 stop working Network and USB, but HDMI inputs work perfect video/sound from connected devices. I don't know what is faulty HDMI board ? or Ethernet board :( How do you think, also when I checking on display firmware it shows "?" for NET.
+Jared McAllister It can, just be very careful with it and take your time. You need to heat up the board as well as the solder around the chip. Use a infrared thermometer if you have one to monitor the temperature in the area you're working.
Hi Rob , please help, I don't get sound in my laptop when streaming TV or Radio stations on line. flash player in updated. Sound on You Tube or Spotify is ok. Thanks a lot
Keep in mind that if you decide to do this on the TX-SR875 you need to wait at least ten minutes for the capacitors to discharge before you remove the HDMI board so that you do not destroy the Reon HQV processer. This is noted on page 134 of the service manual. I am not sure of other Onkyo receivers. But in my opinion its better to be safe than sorry.
Hey Rob, This video is great. One question ... will this work on the TX-NR509 also? I guess so but just checking. The "click" after you switched source or just turning it on and off, disappeared ... so did the sound with it ... I love the idea of "cooking the damn thing" lol very smart indeed :)
A halogen light reflows solder? I understand the problem very well as I used to operate a BGA rework station but I wouldn't think a halogen light would get hot enough.... At the end of the day, you got damn lucky it worked at all... seriously.... BGA's are a real pain, sometimes. If there was enough solder to do the job the first time, there shouldn't be any problems. Reflow wouldn't help If there was insufficient solder. If there was insufficient heat, reflow MIGHT work but without flux being applied and the board being cleaned, I'd say that you got damn lucky. Also, there are VERY specific heating and cooling profiles while soldering BGA parts and your process doesn't come remotely close to it. If it works, GREAT but it isn't a good fix and don't be surprized if the problem comes right back. Good luck. Thanks for showing your technique so others can at least, try to do it.
Landotter1 Maybe you should vieuw the rest of the video first... reflow with a halogen lamp? That's not the case here! Take 5 minutes of your time and finish the video and then come back with an better awnser on this video ;-)
Rob Cuypers Yeah, yeah yeah you still got lucky. Take 2 seconds of your time and see that i used to operate a BGA rework station and i well know whats going on. sheesh...
I´m an owner from a 708 with the same prob of the hdmi-board. I tryed out your solution at 2 times, but it didn´t work. If you send your damaged receiver to Onkyo, then they change exactly this chip, because the chip is damage by itself.
Did not work on my TX-NR609. Followed the directions exactly. Started working with heat to the DTS chip. So proceeded to bake according to directions. Reinstalled and only flashes all lights on and off on display. One click.
I'm a hands-on person and wouldn't hesitate for a minute to do this fix on my NR-609, but since Onkyo's offering to perform the repair, I'm going that route. They likely replace the whole HDMI board so that alone makes the choice worth it. I'll post back the results, how long it took, etc. once it's all accomplished.
+Suresh Chintalapati hello, I apologize for not following up. I filled out the online form on the Onkyo website and in a couple days received a box. I boxed my receiver up, shipped it prepaid Fed-Ex, and in about 1 to 1-1/2 weeks received it back. I wired it back in and it works like new. All the settings were gone, so it required reprogramming, but I'm very pleased. The serial number on back now has a green dot next to it, I assume that's so they know it's been repaired, if it ever goes back to them again. Robert
+Robert French Thanks Robert, any idea on if the new board that they put is also likely to have similar issues or did they replace it with a newer componant?
+Robert French Onkyo UK fixed my 609 within a week. They first sent a plain brown box with inner packaging as I'd thrown the original box away. Inside the returns box was a freephone number to call when the 609 was ready to ship. Called. Carriers came that afternoon...returned with the receiver a few days later and all was fixed. No part of the returns/repairs cost a penny. All free of charge. Excellent after-sales service.
Hi Rob, I'm an old-school enough rocker to try this. My TX-SR804 is very dear to moi'. All the other inputs work fine, except the 2-in, 1-out HDMI ports. So let me get this straight (with no guarantee), if I bake that fucking board, is there a chance it'll work for my model?
Hello Tim What is your issue exactly? The No sound fix is working on more models as you can read in the reactions below. So if you have no sound and a DTS chip on your HDMI board you can give it at try. Good Luck!
+Zarko Trbojevic And again after one month. This is obviously not a long term solution. I'm trying to keep this AVR on me, it's nice allround, but patience is letting me down. Maybe we could here make an agreement to ship all of this Onkyo's to Japan on the same day, on their account. Local distributor wants 150€ for the new board, he state this expense is only for customs (out of EU) and shipment. This is ridiculous. I will bake, and I will sell it when get bored of it.
+Zarko Trbojevic And again on these days. Somebody down here told a story about heat gun, so I gave it a try, I torched the bastard (over the other side of the board, on the place where chip is soldered), and again I have sound on 609. For how long?
+Zarko Trbojevic did you not attempt to apply for the free warranty recall for the receiver? Many of these older models qualify and will continue to until December 2018
Doesn't matter anyway, Onkyo doesn't stand by there cheap products anyway. I'm thinking about throwing mine off a high building on to concrete, that I would enjoy.
hält genau 2 monate. zu einer Reparaturwerkstatt mit Heissluftstation bringen hält 2-3+ jahre und kostet ca. 100. mit erfahrung und mut kann man das auch selber machen.
Onkyo and Denon. If you look around the internet how many problems of sound and video in series ! their receivers are showing, and this companies don't make a recall, dont give any attention or respect to their consumers. The truth is that they don't care about any of that, they just want your money. I´ll never buy another receivers of this companies, and for sure I will tell to my friends to do the same.
Thanks Freek W. thats a good news ! and as I said, after a series of problems, they do not make more than their obligation in recognize that some of their products are defective. But for me they (both) fell in my concept, dont trust anymore. Today I get a Yamaha.
The only thing that is stupid is post a reaction if you don't know what you are talking about.... resoldering chips in an oven is a common thing to do.... nobody talks about microwaving.... This video was made for people that might have problems with the onkyo recievers... if onkyo can provide a solution for you i sure advise to take that road. But if you bought these units second hand and you don't have the buying papers onkyo won't/can't help you out.
Rob, Thanks so much for your video. You brought back to life my TX-NR708. It sat in the media console for almost a year and I was this close to buying a replacement. The video was easy to follow and receiver is as good as new.
Great! Tried it 3 weeks ago, and since then my Onkyo receiver always starts from the first time! Thanks!
Thank you!!! Worked like a charm on my 808. Been fighting the "no sound" problem for a while. Not sure how you developed the "cooking recipe", but it sure enough worked. Nice work & thanks for sharing.
Used this trick on my TX-NR609. It worked!!! Gotta find a small heat sink to keep the chip from melting the solder again in the future. Thanks Rob!
You're welcome. Glad i could help where onkyo seems to be lacking interest.
Thank you, I'm impressed. Tried this about a month ago on my Onkyo TX-SR707, so far so good, not a single problem with audio. Hopefully it will continue to function properly.
WOW!!! worked great for me! i had to do it on my 609 because Onkyo won't repair it.
Thanx a lot,Rob Cuypers, you saved me a lot of money.
+eitan Hillel - Onkyo would have repaired it all FOC as they have a worldwide free recall for this exact problem.
Works like a charm. I don't know how much time it will last, but it works on On TX-NR414 as well.
Amazing!
OMG! I never thought this would work, but now my nr509 is better than new. Thanks a lot, you saved us $400
Hi rob, you're my idol
Many thanks for detailed explanations
I have saved me a lot of money and heartache
I acted according to the instructions and now everything is working right
Also the option to upgrade the network and software have been corrected
TX-NR 709
Just want to say Thanks for the video! My NR509 died a death and your guide worked a treat.. Back up and running! ✌🍻 cheers
BTW, it worked for 708
Thank you so much, after this i put a heat sink on the chip, your oven guide worked perfectly! very happy!
+Michael Forsythe Hey Michael, could you please provide the information on what heat sink you used? Thx

Thanks Rob. This worked very well on my TX-NR509. And it was very easy to do.
Ah no, it's stopped working again. Should I have to keep doing it or would a longer burn be more likely to fix it permanently?
Thanks
tx-nr709 fixed!!!
Bonjour, votre ampli fonctionne toujours à ce jour ? j'hésite à laisser trop longtemps le sèche-cheveux dessus. j'ai essayé 2-3 min seulement.
+974k ProD (Visuals videos concept.)
Thank You, I did this yesterday and it worked.
I do not know if the problem will come back, but for now it works :-)
I want to thank you tx-nr809
Baked board and now 100%
You are awesome for sharing
the trick....

Ok Thank You...
Im dissapointed too, Ive been a hardcore Onkyo fan for a long time, now that this happened my buddy who supports Denon is on my case everyday ;(
It happend to me as well.

Thank you, Rob. This works for my nr-709, but the 2 5-pin connectors which are stupid design are hard for disconnecting. Anyway, sound comes back.

Thanks again,
Michael Kusher
Thankyou!!! worked a treat and saved me $$$$ taking it in, or even more if I was to buy a new one
Perfect! Works on my onkyo 808! Thank u very much
I tried this method today and worked fine and I have sound and network menu is not grayed out any more.
Thank you
This works on my onkyo TX-SR707:-) Thanks from Denmark
Thank you! My TX-NR709 is back up and running after "baking" the HDMI board. Hopefully I get a few more years out of it.
It worked for me. Thanks Rob.
Onkyo will repair this No-Sound problem for you.. They send you a FedEx box for your receiver. You send it to them, they repair it and send it back working.
Go to the Onkyo web page.
Click support-> special_service_program-> Loss of Audio/Network Customer Program
Follow the instructions.
I was able to call and my unit does qualify for the repair. The box should arrive tomorrow! Thanks!
Big thanks you for this ! I have repair my onkyo receiver! No need to use the air dryer anymore 😜!
This works for my onkyo nr-709!!!thanks!!!
Was thinking about contacting ONKYO Support allso, but im pretty sure i dont got coverage on my unit no more now since it's been it the oven 3 times :P
Thanks alot for the video, been keeping my reciever alive for like half a year! :D
Just try this. This works for more onkyo models. There are lots of models with the same problem.
Fantastic video Rob, does this also work for my TX SR 803 E?
Cheers.
Worked lieke a charm. Thx Rob !
Hey Rob, gisteren je handleiding gevolgd en kan gelukkig melden: Het werkt perfect!
Hi Rob.
I´m going to do it on mi 609. After that, can I put a heat sink over the DTS IC? Or maybe add a cooler? Any idea?
Does this really work? Is your receiver still working? Onkyo was not much help to repair mine, but I still do not want to hurt it farther! :-/
Hi Rob, first, thank you for the video for sharing the information. I had 709 w/ no sound.... I followed your instruction and it works but.... after two month, no sound again... any suggestion?
Hi kevin
Well you can try the procedure once again. And make sure that your amp is not placed in a narrow space where it can't get rid of it's heat.
Some boards are damaged beyond repair so then there is nothing elso to do then replace the board.
Good luck. Rob
Rob Cuypers Hi, Rob, well noted and will try. Thanks.
Hi Rob, is it okay if I use a conventional oven with the same temperature? because i don't have a house oven..
very helpful video, thank you. But why do you have to have the ghastly music?
Hi Rob, my Onkyo TX-NR808 suddenly has no video thru HDMI. I changed sources, replaced hdmi cables, connected to another TV and nothing. If I connect the source directly to the TV it works fine. Could it also be the HDMI board? If so, same procedure, or a different chip? Thanks
Check with Onkyo support first to see if they can fix it. They are fixing sound channels for free for model years 2009-2012. Anyway they fixed mine for free. Its a manufacturing problem on these years.
Check the caps on the HDMi board as well!
(Tx nr807)
My Onkyo was working (well enough) until I tried plugging it into a normal speaker to test something out in another room. NO sound came out, but it did make that 'second click' and shows the radio playing. No static or anything else comes from any of the speakers I have tried. I know the connections are good, and I originally had it plugged into my whole house system. Any idea why it could have suddenly lost its sound?
Hello Rob, do you know if it works for my receiver (TX NR 609)?
I put some heart sink on dts chip after reflow and also placed 2 12v funs on the inside, one to blow cold air inside and one to drag the hot air outside and my avr has been running for months without going off again. Actually I didn't use the bulb but used heat gun, to heat it hotter for 2minutes.
How long will it work? I have a NR509-with this no sound issue, and the device is out of warranty..
I was a bit skeptical, but it worked on my HT-RC180. I hope it lasts, as the local repair shop wanted $350 to replace the HDMI board.
Hi, i have an audio issue to with my onkyo, but not only with HDMI, ive also had trouble even if i plug my bluray into optical or coaxial.... is it the same problem even if my audio didnt come from hdmi?
Have you noticed the four holes around the chip..? I wonder if a radiator attached on them, will not fix the problem for good.. ?!
Sorin Petcu I get the problem, repaired under warrranty, so I put a fan onto the PCBA... and one year later a get the same problem again... but no more warranty >>> straight to the trash >>>never an aother onkyo device
Is it repaired? What about next time you use the amp? still need to heat the chip?
In my TX-NR905 stop working Network and USB, but HDMI inputs work perfect video/sound from connected devices. I don't know what is faulty HDMI board ? or Ethernet board :( How do you think, also when I checking on display firmware it shows "?" for NET.
Don't have a halogen lamp handy. Would a blow dryer provide enough heat? Too much?
But in my opinion its better to be safe than sorry.
hi ! it's repaired for all time or just for few times ?
Hi Jim A
This works because it reflows the solder connections of the chip that causes this problem.
Landotter1
Maybe you should vieuw the rest of the video first... reflow with a halogen lamp? That's not the case here! Take 5 minutes of your time and finish the video and then come back with an better awnser on this video ;-)
Rob Cuypers Yeah, yeah yeah you still got lucky. Take 2 seconds of your time and see that i used to operate a BGA rework station and i well know whats going on. sheesh...
+Landotter1 i have tried this and it did not work what do you think i should do? buy a new chip where and how much?
My Onkyo TX-SR875 give popping and crackling sound in DSP mode. how can I solve this issue.
It can be done in tx 8050?
I´m an owner from a 708 with the same prob of the hdmi-board.
I tryed out your solution at 2 times, but it didn´t work.
If you send your damaged receiver to Onkyo, then they change exactly this chip, because the chip is damage by itself.
worked perfectly!!
+Robert French Any luck with Onkyo Robert? I have the same issue and would like your inputs on Onkyo Customer service.
+Suresh Chintalapati I would assume it's a new board as that would be the best action by a company trying to make things right for the customer.
Hello Tim
What is your issue exactly? The No sound fix is working on more models as you can read in the reactions below. So if you have no sound and a DTS chip on your HDMI board you can give it at try.
Good Luck!
I've got no nothing coming through the HOME ports. Nada, nothing, zilch.
Fucking auto correct. ..HDMI
Ports
+Tim Hurley
G'day mate, did you try this and did it work?
Looks like your unit saw some serious heat along the way with that decal on the power supply all distorted...
search for ONKYO CUSTOMER CARE on the net. Some products will be repaired for free because this problem is a manufacturing issue
Thanks. It's worked for the 609. All we're doin' is cooking Onkyo's. Horrible.
What a great life hack! Works fine 4 me! Does anybody know if it's really permanent?
it works
Has anyone tried getting onkyo to fix it?
thx a lot
Doesn't matter anyway, Onkyo doesn't stand by there cheap products anyway. I'm thinking about throwing mine off a high building on to concrete, that I would enjoy.
Hi Alexandere
That i don't know...
Thanks anyway!
Very very temp fix what you did is heat the bond wires in the chip that are broken, you will be lucky if it lasts 6months
hält genau 2 monate. zu einer Reparaturwerkstatt mit Heissluftstation bringen hält 2-3+ jahre und kostet ca. 100. mit erfahrung und mut kann man das auch selber machen.
They did make a recall: www.nl.onkyo.com/en/customer-service-program-118747.html
Thanks Freek W. thats a good news ! and as I said, after a series of problems, they do not make more than their obligation in recognize that some of their products are defective. But for me they (both) fell in my concept, dont trust anymore. Today I get a Yamaha.
reflow is ok .....and cooler.
Что хрень такая Onkyo! был бы LG за 40S ещё можно понять.
If you want to destroy both amplifiers and microwave, follow this tip.So stupid! Contact Onkyo intead, they have a great support.
