The ‘new’ voice, hate it or love it. Is unique to him, and a call to remember his career.
Nah he’s spot on. After Mo Money In The Bank Pt. 5, the final chapter of that trilogy, it all went downhill. His voice changed, he started picking dark beats, he stopped the punchline flow and started using unknown named producers.

I think it’s partly his voice maturing but mostly maturing as an artist. It was a style change to sound more well rounded, not just a distinguished punchline rapper. Banks sounded perfect on I’m So Fly. I think his engineer could tweak his voice if he wanted to, but it’s his choice.
His voice matured as he got older thats what it is. Also different producers compared to pre 2008. Ive never had any issues with his vocals tbh hes one of my fav rappers ever love all his work
There’s a lot of contributing factors for sure. The team of engineers he was working with while on Interscope was world class, and that shows. I also respect his decision to return underground (or whatever we call it it now) - not everyone wants the pressure associated with 50 level celebrity. @@BlackFaithProduction What made things worse was Banks' father and 50 used to hustle in the streets together so that also led to Banks' confusion on why 50 wasn't more understanding. I agree 100% and I noticed this many many years ago when it first changed. At the time game was beefing with them and mentioned banks not using his "voice box" any more. I figured he stopped using a recording program that made his voice sound deeper... but This actually happened to a lot of rappers. Ghost face was another one whose voice seemed to lose its bass. Banks later stages is actually better than Banks prior to 2008 - he got better, the voice changed was a transition that actually worked in his favor for his most recent projects !
I noticed this around the time he dropped Halloween Havoc 1 and Return of the PLK. His pitch definitely changed and became more gritty and raspy than it already was. However, I felt it was for the better. It gave him a greater presence and flair and his choice in his album making improved as well. I like his grit pitch now, it suits him
You’re right. His voice is not good sonically. People don’t realize how important it is to have vocals that are pleasing to the ears. He also needs to get back to his punchlines, and shorten up his bars. He’s been trying to squeeze to many words in
If you watch the video, I give props where it's due. He has transitioned from being your typical punchline rapper to a lyrically diverse MC. I'm talking vocals here. Just my observation and opinion.
@@tdsnuggsI totally agree with you here. He has changed sonically, and it's a lot harder for me to listen to him now as well. He has really good wordplay still, but that voice ruins it for me. The Flex free is a really good example of how flat and monotone he sounds now. He still has dope bars, but the package as a whole is lacking. He talked on Joe Buddens podcast about how he still punches but prefers to do more intricate wordplay on his newer projects, that's not the issue most of us take with it though; it's that his voice lacks conviction these days.
I only hear music for the bars. He's not a singer, so his voice shouldn't be an issue. The only voices I hated were those nerdy Drake/ Lil Wayne voices, but that's because their bars were fraudulent. You can't have hard-core bars and be a nerd. They're voice didn't match their bars. Atleast, with the grimeyy LB voice matches his bars.
I dig the video because I always heard this as a Banks fan others would say it’s his voice that kills it for them. The video leads me to believe we’re both fans here so we can set that aside and speak as if we’re on the same side. I never noticed his voice as being bad and always took it as the people who don’t like him just don’t mess with him. That’s that. But hearing the side by side comparison the change is drastic and it can be something to them not liking his voice. I guess I was a fan of it and didn’t mind his voice. Bars and overall projects always been nice. I think as a grown ass man our voices mature. I’ve recorded over 20 years myself and I can definitely hear that I sound more mature as time passes. Voice wise. So maybe maturity and he always seemed low or “soft” spoken naturally so having to yell on mics in crowds and all that goes against his natural voice and tone and can be a factor too. With that and maturity my man’s voice changed some. Still sounds like Banks though. And most of the people I’ve grown up with have drank and smoked their entire lives. A person would have to be going nuts on that shit and I wouldn’t want to just slap that on my man’s name like that. It’s not “unbearable” like say, Beanie Seagal. That’s a total change for me and even as a fan of him I won’t listen. Overall good video and channel. Fuck with ya boy!
@@jacobalamo5911 Indeed. I was just speaking on the fact that it’s totally different now and makes it hard to listen to him and how Banks’ is different but not to that extent or “unbearable” like my man’s said in the video.

@@tdsnuggs What’s crazy is when he does drop he has his spot for sure and all the top underground guys respect him and work with him. He has an odd spot in the game that seems to be good to be in.
Songs u talking about with his voice not sounding the same aren't even joints that Banks cares about..u obliviously haven't been listening to Banks after he left .. sounds what the real problem is that his content has changed since he was younger and certain Banks fans can't deal with the maturity of his music
I said the same shit yrs ago he does sound different bro aye when you played half of his (Bad News) versus I Got hyped as hell start spitting it word for word... Stay blessed
But yet he’s still regarded as one of the best lyricists in the game. I see the voice change but to not think one bit that the joints you played beats took over the whole joint, not just his verse is a plain out opinion.
@That Dope Sh^t I do agree that the smoking, drinking, and also the older he got definitely are huge factors in his voice but to say that he sounds close to the cookie monster naww! maybe a little raspy maybe cause to me the rapper who's voice sound clearly as the cookie monster hands down is Ja Rule! that's why he got dissed so much times because of his deep cookie monster voice singing on those records not PLK! though. Maybe raspy
After all those lyrics, I do not really mind the voice change. He is aging too. Listen to Broken Arrows from his last project. The last half of the project is crazy good
After Mo Money In The Bank Pt. 5, the final chapter of that trilogy, it all went downhill. His voice changed, he started picking dark beats, he stopped the punchline flow and started using unknown named producers.
I prefer his voice now but i find him hard to recommend him to people due to it. I've always rocked with banks but not nearly as much as how he sounds now aged up, leveled up and gruff as fuck. it fits his lyrical content a lot more for me too, totally get what you're saying tho. for me it's just *chefs kiss*
This video is accurate and I would add that I closely followed BANKS and his voice changed around 2009 -2010 because during the 2 precedent years, G-unit had been touring consistently and Banks was performing all his songs with insatiable passion and won’t resort to lip-synching like the other members in order to save his energy and voice. Doing so consistently for 2yrs will definitely affect your voice. This is factual, just my theory.
I see what you are saying, but I think it's the way his music is mixed and mastered. I think Banks likes the way it sounds. But yea, maybe getting with another engineer, his voice can be mixed where his flow and rhymes can be heard better. With that being said, Banks is still my favorite MC. The last 5 albums have been classics to me.
@@tdsnuggs u need to do more research and pay attention more. I understand whatchu saying about the voice but he is spitting ALOT of darts that went over your head. He flow is Predator wit the mask off.

His voice has changed but i think this is more of a delivery issue than a vocal one. He still sounds great on modern songs though arguably less aggressive/energetic. One coule argue he had consistently better production/direction in his earlier career but i ront think he sounds bad now by any stretch
you can say the same thing about 50Cent, Papoose, Lil Wayne, Camron and many more. Their voices have changed with age. I was devastated when Wayne changed his voice in 2009 to this squeaky one we're accustomed to now. However banks no longer raps in punchlines. His style has evolved to more story telling. Halloween HAVOC IV is a classic and a masterpiece BANK$ always delivers PLK
I agree, but Beanie Sigel's voice changed because he got shot, it didn't just change over time naturally.
@@jacobalamo5911 Indeed. I was just speaking on the fact that it’s totally different now and makes it hard to listen to him and how Banks’ is different but not to that extent or “unbearable” like my man’s said in the video.
I've heard people say they prefer Banks' current voice and the more darker/boombap beats he raps over. That's understandable. If Banks had his old voice and his now wider range as a lyricists- we'd be talking top 10 right now.
@@tdsnuggs What’s crazy is when he does drop he has his spot for sure and all the top underground guys respect him and work with him. He has an odd spot in the game that seems to be good to be in.
@@raypmusic1902 No doubt, I really don't mind their voices tho. Its hard to hear sometimes, but they can still sound dope over the right beats
Banks will always be in my top 3
We need to know what happened to Dave East’s voice
this isn't the first comment suggesting that 🤔
@@tdsnuggs exactly because he sounds nothing like his mixtape days his voice became cringe af
@@ProdBySxBhe sounds the same on every song
@@dedheddred1773you bugging
Dam, can she live is one of my favorite tracks. L take. V6 is a classic.
Bro, his voice is got deeper and he started being more lyrical this man bugging 😂
Stay blessed
that's verse goes crazy! stay blessed 🫡
His last 2 albums were dope. The flows and the message unmatched
Best still sound still even better i love lloyd banks i loves all his albums
But yet he’s still regarded as one of the best lyricists in the game. I see the voice change but to not think one bit that the joints you played beats took over the whole joint, not just his verse is a plain out opinion.
I always felt like this. I 100% agree.
Yeah i agree 💯💯 rocking with the old banks voice
This video is fucking remedial banks latest material is fucking fire
@That Dope Sh^t I do agree that the smoking, drinking, and also the older he got definitely are huge factors in his voice but to say that he sounds close to the cookie monster naww! maybe a little raspy maybe cause to me the rapper who's voice sound clearly as the cookie monster hands down is Ja Rule! that's why he got dissed so much times because of his deep cookie monster voice singing on those records not PLK! though. Maybe raspy
aye how you block pages i really cant find it ??
This is a weird take.
Banks NEVER fell off.. bro rather be barbershop talk instead industry type. His choice. The real kno wusssup 🐐
Same thing happened with Camron, everytime he raps (after crime pays) it sound like he got sum stuck in his throat ⏸️
South side story is one of the dopest tracks man
It sounds like he mumbles now. I remember the gunit days. He sounded a lot clearer
After all those lyrics, I do not really mind the voice change. He is aging too.
Listen to Broken Arrows from his last project. The last half of the project is crazy good
His voice is literally the same , he just started rapping with more emotion lol
After Mo Money In The Bank Pt. 5, the final chapter of that trilogy, it all went downhill. His voice changed, he started picking dark beats, he stopped the punchline flow and started using unknown named producers.
Downhill TF smh
His voice changed a lot, but his style is unique. From hunger for More until COTI,he never disappoints.
I love all his work, his voice changed and goes perfect with the raspy times
I prefer his voice now but i find him hard to recommend him to people due to it. I've always rocked with banks but not nearly as much as how he sounds now aged up, leveled up and gruff as fuck. it fits his lyrical content a lot more for me too, totally get what you're saying tho. for me it's just *chefs kiss*
Banks cadence and tone has change because of him being relaxed and comfortable with his position in rap.
i like when this dude say "lets roll the clip" lol
@That Dope Sh*t. Gotta Do A Cassidy The Only Rapper 2 Battle Himself Vid, the Murder Case nd how a car accident almost killed him nd his career
He switch a flow a little but it’s definitely for the better
TDS
Early banks was fire Victory and Banksworkout are legendary.
His voice is dope, it’s the mixes that let him down at times.
Good point
This video is accurate and I would add that I closely followed BANKS and his voice changed around 2009 -2010 because during the 2 precedent years, G-unit had been touring consistently and Banks was performing all his songs with insatiable passion and won’t resort to lip-synching like the other members in order to save his energy and voice. Doing so consistently for 2yrs will definitely affect your voice. This is factual, just my theory.
Jackpot was 🔥 way better than that Shurmad 🗑
That Halloween album was fire 🔥
Must be your ears
I see what you are saying, but I think it's the way his music is mixed and mastered. I think Banks likes the way it sounds. But yea, maybe getting with another engineer, his voice can be mixed where his flow and rhymes can be heard better. With that being said, Banks is still my favorite MC. The last 5 albums have been classics to me.
His voice is way better now. All his music is phenomenal.
HIs voice was perfect for Pieces Of My Pain and the tunes he did with Conway but that's really all I have listened to from him.
He sounded different after 2004
2006 to be exact
I did like his old voice a little better. But his pen got sharper with time.
Love Lloyd banks current projects but those engineers needed to make his voice sharper and cleaner on a lot of tracks though
Thanks for listening to my request and covering the Rap God.
what's your take on it?
@@tdsnuggs u need to do more research and pay attention more. I understand whatchu saying about the voice but he is spitting ALOT of darts that went over your head. He flow is Predator wit the mask off.
Na i disagree on this one chief, his catalog actually got better after the g unit run, less filler rarity rap shit and more intimate and personal.
Respect to the work you put in tho, your research and attention to detail is top tier indeed!
Big UPS
Banks is dope. I noticed differences and put it down to production/engineering from mixtapes to albums. But listening to comparisons here its more profound than I imagined.
TDS
Word up! still waiting on CC3 though
Yeah i remember at a certain point i figured it was because he was very young and all that smoking, touring, etc. changed his voice. But after a while i got used to it. His rhymes have way more substance now even tho his old voice was ill. 🤷🏾♂️
Way more substance. FNO could have been an album. And CC2.
im so glad this was made tho this is the real reason lloyd banks fell off he lost his voice
@@hashimpeters4830 I agree
Banks still fire , what yal talkin bout . He’s actually way better lyrically right now then he was
he is better lyrically
@@tdsnuggs he just got better every year pretty much
He doesn't sound any different his voice never changed
His voice has changed but i think this is more of a delivery issue than a vocal one. He still sounds great on modern songs though arguably less aggressive/energetic. One coule argue he had consistently better production/direction in his earlier career but i ront think he sounds bad now by any stretch
I agree man. I can barely understand what he’s saying anymore
I Love banks voice how it is now!!
Banks said himself. I wonder when the next "what happened to banks" video 😂
you can say the same thing about 50Cent, Papoose, Lil Wayne, Camron and many more. Their voices have changed with age. I was devastated when Wayne changed his voice in 2009 to this squeaky one we're accustomed to now. However banks no longer raps in punchlines. His style has evolved to more story telling. He's just as dope as he used to be.
