the face that season 4 gave us a Thanksgiving episode is great. I never really like this holiday as I cant recall having a good one for over a decade. It was also the holiday where I lost my wife and Im always alone on Thanksgiving. So, being able to throw on this episode during that day really helps. Its the one thing I look forward to in Nov. Better than Planes, Trains and Automobiles which is a depressing Thanksgiving movie about a guy who lost his wife and is all alone. Dont need a reminder.
One small victory in an otherwise dire season. Just like season 6 (although the final episode is relatively good). After so many characters left and new ones are introduced it did not feel like the show I fell in love with the first 3 seasons (and even season 5)
Wait Jeff said his appendicitis story was in 7th grade, and that was 22 years ago... But then he's 40 next season. I think Jeff was 10 for two years like Troy. And 11 for four years.
@@Francis... Actually, in the S2 episode Intro to Political Science, Jeff states he was “like 19” in the year 1997, which would mean he was born around 1978. GI Jeff retconned this later in S5 by saying Jeff was 40, so you can’t really blame it on the gas leak year
@@jakobmcfadden9163 I actually have a theory for that. The break between s4 and s5 was 5 years. There’s not much to back this up except Jeff’s age suddenly having a 5 -7 year gap . And maybe they go without seeing each for 5 years and Jeff’s business maybe last a little bit longer. But other than that the theory is a stretch
@@10ones That’s not a bad theory, the only time I can think of where someone says what year it tho is when Elroy wears a shirt that says 2015 on it Season 6. So that wouldn’t really make sense if it was supposed to be like 2020.
The botched Shawshank homage half of the episode was a bit of a hat on a hat, but the Jeff half was both some great writing and some incredible acting from Joel McHale. Anyone who writes off season 4 entirely needs to rewatch this one.
What I could come up with in a quick search: music for this was done by Jacques Slade, who may or may not have worked with Dan Marocco on the title track for Brooklyn 99, of which, the horns are original but it otherwise samples Kool and the Gang's "Jungle Boogie". Jacques Slade also wrote "I Never Die", which is in its entirety on UA-cam ❤
I kinda liked the part about Jeff and hated the part about Shirley's Thanksgiving. Humor was too cartoonish, almost slapstick evem, but Joel's performance during his speech/rant to his father redeems this episode completely in my eyes. Joel is really good at drama, too bad he ain't getting too much dramatic parts in movies. His performance with his slight eye movements, emotions ring so true to me as a person who also has a deadbeat dad.
@@aggg12679 elitist much? 4th season is generally bad, and I even criticized this exact episode. Yet it had it's moments, mostly thanks to the cast. The only thing that I praised is Joel's performance, which is outstanding considering the material.
Complete opposite for me. Love Shirley's Shawshank Thanksgiving(note to self*: popup restaurant next year called Shirley's Shawshank). But I did like Joel's performance a lot. I hate Adam Devine. So much.
@@MrFiremagnet No. It's not and it's not elitist to mock a caricature of this show. That Jeff being emotional was jarring. Jeff doesn't behave like that. This show was a perfect 10. S4 would be 5/6
I like season 4😊. I don't care if people like it or not. I hated seasons 5 & 6😧😥. The creators of season 4 did their best & it wasn't their fault that dan harmon didn't show up or be there while writing the script. I don't care, maybe he has a gas leak problem at home.
So season 4 was the only season to do a Thanksgiving episode (in March)? Seasons 1-3 were on during November but nothing. Dan Harmon must hate Thanksgiving.
To be fair, the S4 show runners intended for their Thanksgiving episode to be shown in November (having also made Halloween and Christmas episodes), but NBC held the show to midseason. “NBC: Depends on what fails”
but its a thanksgiving episode and it gives me comfort, since Im always alone on thanksgiving, for over a decade. So its nice to spend that day with the Greendale crew, if only for 22 minutes.
Say what you want about the Gas Leak Year but Jeff finally confronting his father is a great moment
Meh. In comparison into the B story, it is much better. But still pretty gassy.

it's quite horrible actually
I just wish that was a plotline Dan Harmon got to tackle

I love how Shirley appreciated Batman and Robin for Troy
The way Troy places his head on Abed’s shoulder when he asked *why is thanksgiving so terrible?* 😂🥹😭
“Let’s carve that jive turkey”
“Got that out of your system?”
I always loved the no nonsense back and forth between Shirley & Pierce
don't eat the garbage dip yeayeayyy
Turkey Day Tag Team is streets ahead

5:50 Alison and Danny doing "limpy-hands" which is a bit they tried to sneak in a few episodes (and succeeded with this one!)
God their friendship is just delightful
What bit?
What’s limpy hands?
Too, too too too, too many FOUR
This video was a mini episode! Love it!!
In a rare turn of events Britta scores a win. Her cats are very proud ❤ 1:24

There are so many things I forgot about the gas leak year, like “This is the Jonestown of dinners” coming out of Annie’s mouth!?
1:21 fully expected Jake and Boyle to step into the scene
Just imagine if that happened
Be thankful for everything
Wow I didn't expect to be this early to a Community video dayum
Wait was that the Brooklyn 99 opening theme song?
Ikr?!?
@@pat2rome incorrect B99 wasn’t on yet, and wasn’t on NBC until season 6
I wonder if it was originally some licensed music and they later changed it.

It's a community song that was later used in B99 too
I liked the prison break references. Abed even did the Scofield "plans on body" thing
Season 4 was a gas leak, but dammit if “just a shoelace and belt free night full of fun” isn’t a hilarious line 😂😂
2:57 that’s all
yes
Thanks Community!
Wait... This was just one episode split into a bunch of sections, except the last few seconds.
Cuz they tried to do a Thanksgiving compilation but there's only one Thanksgiving episode so that's kind of hard
Season 4 may suck, but this episode is pretty good.
I'm on my 25th re watch really exited to see the movie
Man, it really sucks that this is the only real thanksgiving episode in the series and it comes from season 4
In my opinion this is the best Season 4 episode
7th grade .. 12yo
17 years later. Jeff is 29?
Urgh. Britta is in this?
She's the AT&T of people LOL
Shes the antithesis of batman
Why did I have to go third!

you dont like 5 or 6?
The honda episode with the Dean is hilarious.
"Its happening people!"
Gilian's overacting is pretty off-putting in this episode ngl
Stalker Dean and Therapist wannabe Britta went way too far for me in Season 4.
The dean's shirt says "2 GR8FUL 2B SELF H8FUL" which is only kind of funny because it's kind of dark.

It’s a shame that Gas Leak spread past the School.
THATS WHERE THE B99 THEME MUSIC COMES FROM ????
I'm thankful for drug references and fast food commericals. The writers and publishers should be ashamed of some of the places they ruined this show
Im thankful for fast food commercials from the 2000s and those that recorded them and posted them here on YT
Sadly, this was one of the worst episodes in the entire show.
