I HAVE BEEN A TEACHER FOR 39 YEARS AND CAN TRULY SAY THAT I VALUE THE TUTORIALS DELIVERED BY CLAUDIA DEAN. HER LESSONS ARE AMAZING. I CANNOT WAIT TO RELAY THEM TO MY STUDENTS WHENEVER I CAN. THANK YOU CLAUDIA
My two girls enjoy watching you. 6 and 8 years old. My 6 year old won her Duet 1st and getting ready for her solo. She said" mammy she is so cool" sending love and light. Thank you for sharing your talent.
I only just started ballet and I’ve madly fallen in love with it and watching these videos really help me to get better! Pointe is my dream and I’m working really hard to reach it!! Xx
I would, even the most incredible ABT dancers start with pliés and rises. How is it like, I was just told I’m getting mine yesterday! The dancers with them tell me it hurts and I know it will and is hard work but I’ve been wanting pointe shoes since I knew what they were.
Emma Shane it really doesn’t hurt much when you have toe pads on just don’t put your pointe shoes on without the toe pads because they are meant to keep your feet in a correct position and making sure they don’t do anything funky inside your shoe
perfect timing!! its been one week since i started pointe in class and we dont have tons of exercises to practice at home so im so happy to have some variety for my routine/practice, ill definitely be practicing with these tips tomorrow. our teacher said we're gonna hate her come wednesday so i need the strength. thanks claudia!!!
Thank you so much for this video Claudia! I'm in a class with girls that are all on pointe but they are 2 years older than me. My studio's rules are that you must be 14 but I'm really worried that by then it'll be too late and I'll be so behind so I won't be able to audition for a company ☹️ I'm going to work extra hard though with these exercises so that I might be able to achieve my goal faster 💖❤️
i can not believe it! thi is exactly what i wss looking for!! my teacher told me i am getting my first pear of pointe shoes after easter, that's only two months away! i am so excited!!!!
christina giata OMG same haha still, you can give it a try, I can't jump with my point shoes but I can do turns, stand still, and walk without any problema but some little pain in my legs at the end of the day.
Claudia you are aweasome, I have a humble ballet studio in Brazil and I would like to say that your tips are awesome and I always try to use them with my students.
Hi Claudia! I’m an adult ballet student wanting to go on pointes (I had a classmate whose school gave her the go signal and she’s now 70). Aside from these exercises, which I truly love, any more tips? Thanks! 😊
@@EmmWood91 Hi! Not yet. Hehe! Well pandemic happened so I stopped for now. I have a very small space at home so it’s challenging to move around. I still stretch though so my muscles won’t forget.😉
I’m so happy because I’ve been looking for vids like this because I stooped ballet for a while and I’m starting again and my teacher said if I can see your strong enough for points then you can do it so I’m trying and trying thank you
Thank you so much for your tutorials and tips!! As a teacher, I am always looking for ways to help my students grow stronger, safely! Thanks for all that you are doing in the dance world, and I look forward to more of your videos :) (Ps. Do you have any tips for preventing/treating “snapping hip syndrome”? Many of my students complain of this when lowering their leg in forward or side extensions. My go-to response has been to have them lift the leg using the turn-out strength they currently have and not to hold their leg too far to the side... do you have any other suggestions?)
I have incredibly clicky hips, I've found what works is actually strengthening the muscles of the supporting leg. Holding the opposite side more frees up the other leg, it works almost instantly which is nice.
Hello! I thank you !!!! Just after doing this for a month I got my first pair of Pointe shoes! !!! I credit you for this !!! Now that I'm on pointe, I do this everytime I warm up. Thank you !!!!!
For some reason I find it really satisfying that these are the exsises my teachers been teaching me for year x Also i get my pointe shoes next week !!!
Another great video Claudia Dean. Brava!! I haven’t been en pointe for decades but I can incorporate these exercises in my own ankle strengthening conditioning.
I just started point today and I did great! Thanks for these really helpful exercises.I come back every other day to do these to get better.Again, thank you so much.👯♀️
I am so sorry to hear that happened to you! You comment here is a very important message that I hope more people see. It is dangerous to hold on to something behind your back as oppose to something in front of you especially when people are not as strong/flexible as this girl in the video, who HAS been en point *for years*. It's simply because holding to something at the back is more difficult so a wobble in ankle/toes may need to your the whole body dropping and injure the feet badly.
#3 also seems a bit iffy as well. In my dance class in middle school, there was a girl who could go on the tips of her toes without the use of pointe shoes OR a barre. Our teacher told her not to do it because it could severely mess up her feet.
How do you hurt ur ankles like that, you must’ve had extremely bad feet and you forced your legs to touch the wall, idk how else you could hurt yourself
Caroline Sophia congratulations! I am slowly leaving the bar for basics and still a bit in the bar for more advanced skills that are still kinda basic. Hope you have fun at pointe shoe fitting(It’s kind of a long process)!
claudia i need help! my knees never fully straighten no matter how hard i squeeze them or stretch them. its almost hard to touch them in first position and i don’t know how to fix it or if i even can fix it
This kept happening to me for year and years, but i just kept working through class everyday and stretching them as hard as i could and after a while you should be able to get them straight!
My teacher told me that with my bone structure I will never be able to completely have them touch in first, but that I can try to make the gap smaller my stretching the knees. Claudia has an exercise for this in one of her videos I think. It is commonly referred to as hypoextension.
my teacher said that ill be able to go en pointe in december/january if i strengthen my feet a bit more! im definitely going to be doing these exercises! :)
So I’m 13 and I started doing ballet when I was 3 so it’s now been 10 years and this week my studio sent out the pre pointe invitations and I got one and this has been my dream since I started and I’m just trying to just practice more to get ready for the class
My legs are very bow shaped so my knee is above my pinkie at best when in parallel. Never over the third toe. My teacher put me on pointe nonetheless, but it makes balancing on one leg so much harder.
I love these exercises! I've been trying them a lot recently as I'm getting pointe shoes soon. I'm a bit worried that I won't be able to go on pointe or i'll be doing it wrong??
Yaaas, what i've been looking for😍 Those exercise will help me a lot, even when i am already en pointe. PS: Your warm up routine has helped me a lot, thank you so much🙊
For the soleus exercise, are we allowing our hip to flex (thereby creating a space-hold with everything above the pelvis [think less ROM forced-arch), or are we raising the entire unit of the body up-and down? Thank you for your free contributions to the international dance community via your UA-cam page. Thanks to your students as well.
What exercise alterations do you recommend for extreme leg and foot hypermobility? I’m preparing to go back en pointe after 4 years in a wheelchair plus 1.5 years of physical therapy. I danced for over 25 years, did semipro ballet, and taught advanced pointe classes and ballet summer intensives. I have EDS, and my legs, ankles, and forefoot over the toes are incredibly hypermobile.
I’m so excited! I’ve been doing these exercises and today in ballet my teacher told me I can get my pointe shoes after our shows 😍😍 I can’t wait! Thank you so much!

Hi! Claudia, your videos are extremely helpful, thanks so much for sharing! I've got a question about calve rises with a bent knee: do I need to stay on the same height level and just bend the knee of the supporting leg more or do I need to actually rise keeping the angle of the knee same throughout the rise?
no obviously not. also that stuff is complete bullshit, you need turnout for pointe this other junk is pointless, nobody closes their eyes during pointe work.
At my studio (I’m at a small one) we only get our shoes when we start the pointe class itself. We don’t have a prepointe class. I’m in the Senior ballet class (by level not by age.) That class has some students prepping for pointe and some not who are still doing the exercises
My evaluation for pre pointe is this Wednesday and I have high hopes for getting on pointe! Wish me luck!!😁 Edit: had the evaluation today, I hope I made it! I find out next Wednesday
Please, please, please, advise, how I can strength my left ankle in particular, it's a predominantly weak ankle, frequently spra ined, as a consequence, I have tried the sarah - band your exercises (I think it was '4' and '7') nothing seems to work, if it is very unstable, wobbly nothing seems to work, so understandablely it is extremely frustrating, also I don't 😢 have a tennis ball, could I use a golf ball instead

Cool i would Love to go on points

Katie Kat yeah, I agree. I have had pointe shoes for a while now and it doesn’t hurt too much.
Why would you ask a stupid question like this? Come on, you have a brain so use it.

Its fine being fat!fat girls dance too! ;)
Why would you being "fat" matter?
These exercises are so helpful. I did them yesterday after barre and point shoes exercises were so much easier. Thank you Claudia!
I’ve been doing this for a while and I do see a different in my feet muscles and legs thank you sooooo much I did improved for your videos for ballet
I got got a therabend for my bday today!!! I can finally do all the excersizes! I’m so excited! (Shoutout to mum for buying this for me lol.)

What age did you start?
That's wonderful!
When i was 17 and told my teacher I wanted to go pointe, she cringed, lol.
Awesome! Let's hear it for adult ballet! There aren't enough of us (or classes) around.
So it been 3 years, did you get your pointe shoes? 🥰

Did u really have to bring that up?? Your pretty much saying that u guys have weird ears......😐

Gorgeous! Love that vid, thank u 😍 I have a question: I’m on pointe for some years now but it’s just impossible for me to do the 3rd (?) exercise when you go on pointe in flats...can you tell me why? I don’t think that I don’t have the strengt...I feel like my feet just don’t allow it
This is a great video!! So helpful!
Quick question:
In calf rises, does the back part of your feet ever touch the ground? Or do you constantly stay in the air?
I have been doing ballet for a year now (I started when I was 14, kind of old, I know) and I am am going to get on point in june so I realy needed this video

i send this video and similar you made to all my beginner pointe students :-) so helpful, thanks!

@@shippermd so awesome. ☺
I started at 17, I pay myself and find my own way to classes because my parents also are busy/unsupportive
Im slytherin too 😍☺😚
Thank you as always fantastic and a great teaching aid . Love from Starlight school dancers U.K 💗
You are so sweet!! thank you so much xx
Thanks so much Claudia, this is so helpful!
I'm so glad I could help lovely! x
I'm so excited I'm getting my pointe shoes next week^-^
Thank you, great strengthening exercises!
Thank you so much!! x
Your videos help me so much and all your videos helps me so so so much and love you
Pauline Ryan Thankyou SO much!!!
I just started ballet last year and you have to be in ballet 3 for 1 year to go into pre pointe
And I’m 15 turning 16 this year and I’m rlly hoping these exercises can help get me to pointe faster because is my dream
how many times should I do each exercise im turning 15 btw, love your vids❤️
Claudia,
I have been doing ballet for 1 year now (i started at 12) I am now 13 and a half and I think I am ready for pointe.
I have lots of muscle in my legs and can do all of these exercises as well as Maya
Due to me moving to a new studio the teacher hasn't mentioned it yet but i just thought i'd ask for any advice you may have
Thanks Bethany
This really helps, because in eight days I’m going to be an intermediate ballet dancer, at 12
Hi! Claudia, your videos are extremely helpful, thanks so much for sharing! I've got a question about calve rises with a bent knee: do I need to stay on the same height level and just bend the knee of the supporting leg more or do I need to actually rise keeping the angle of the knee same throughout the rise?
Could you please make a video on pre class exercises that you recommend? Thanks!😊👍
very good tips! i pratice all the your videos!!!
Your support is absolutely amazing!! x
I can do a 30 second balance and 25 calf raises can buy demi pointes or pointe shoes and practice at home
no obviously not. also that stuff is complete bullshit, you need turnout for pointe this other junk is pointless, nobody closes their eyes during pointe work.
So if I could do most of these am i ready or I need to be able do these all exercises?
For most studios, when taking a pre pointe class, do you get your shoes at the beginning of the year? Or after you finish a year?
At my studio (I’m at a small one) we only get our shoes when we start the pointe class itself. We don’t have a prepointe class. I’m in the Senior ballet class (by level not by age.) That class has some students prepping for pointe and some not who are still doing the exercises
I believe these stretches will help me on pointe
This video is so help full. Love it💗💗
Milly Tauber Thankyou so much 😍❤️
Thank you Claudia...this is so helpful 😊😊
Thank you so so much xx
I'm getting my fitting today!!!
I love your exercises

Same, tomorrow Feb 16 2019 for first time!!!
I have a pointe assessment soon. Really nervous 😩
How did it go?
shippermd I actually passed it and I am starting beginner lessons with my ballet teacher and some of my classmates
Hey, guys, quick question is it best that you do yoga after a ballet class or that be overworking your muscles?
My evaluation for pre pointe is this Wednesday and I have high hopes for getting on pointe! Wish me luck!!😁
Edit: had the evaluation today, I hope I made it! I find out next Wednesday
I hope you make it
