I'm sorry but you need to tell your guys over at Pimax that a $10 discount on a 800-900 dollar product is a total joke. That's barely a single percent discount - not worth mentioning. (I'm sure you wouldn't have featured the discount in your video if you knew how tiny it was so no shade falls on you; just saying 'cause there's a sales rep at Pimax that has his head screwed on wrong)
Like some of the other comments. Welcome. I’ve had mine for a month and it’s nuts how you get the “real” flight feelings. Still get killed every mission. But I love it. 🤘
@LongShotChannel Thanks for the compliment. I didn't think the black widow would be very popular but turns out it is the most downloaded skin. Also, I hear there are some cougars prowling in the area...might want to keep an eye out in the coming weeks.
@cuttheloop I did not. I checked on Google and see that they have a black diamond on a red field. Is there an older version of the logo that was a red diamond?
So I’ve ordered my new PC to start playing DCS. Been watching the streams for over a year now and I’m convinced even at my age I need to play this game. I ordered a pimex crystal as well. Hopefully it works great. I heard it’s a bit of a pain setting up for DCS.
Not my experience at all. The first issue is, as a UA-camr, you likely got excellent lenses. I, on the other hand, got lenses with distortion and sections that were very blurry. Pimax sent 2 more sets of lenses to rectify the problem, but each set had issues where only sections of the image were in focus. 2 of the 3 lens sets had significant warping of the image that was very noticeable when moving my head around. None of the sets had the supposed edge to edge clarity that UA-camrs seem to be raving about. Pimax quality control is just not there. I'm in the process now of finding the best right eye lens to pair it with the best left eye lens using the 6 lenses that I have. Buyer beware.
You should check out VTOL VR. It's a bit simplified but all the important mechanics are there, and the feeling of actually interacting with the cockpit with your controllers gives you some unparalleled immersion. And it runs way better than DCS in VR.
The F16 is still badass even though your radar wasn’t working properly. I own the original Pimax Crystal before the Light came out and original is still amazing. I am waiting for the next level in VR to come out and that is the Pimax Crystal SUPER which hopefully will be out next month.
Haha, nice but... you lost. Hahaha...Love your videos. You are always having fun. I really enjoy the videos you do with growling sidewinder, You two have great chemistry together, and it is great to watch.
Great videos LS! I was curious if you know about re-centering the headset position once in game? Sometimes my quest 3 is slightly off-line, for example in this video it looks like you head position is "off" a bit to the right in the cockpit. If you hit 5 on the numpad or another button on your device it will re-center according to your head position.
Wow, that was amazing, thanks for the ride-along! I continue to be impressed by your airmanship and your fighting skills. The Pimax looks pretty impressive. I noticed that the out-of-cockpit views were really crisp, smooth and nearly photorealistic. The in-cockpit views looked quite a bit less detailed (panel views were good but less so thru the glass). Was that a result of editing? Lastly, do you get a better sense of depth with the Pimax? I find it harder to visually reacquire a target in 2D, wondering if the VR headset changes that?
One of my favorite things to watch on UA-cam is real life fighter aircraft unrestricted climbs. Could you get us some cool edits and shots and clips of you doing one at the beginning of a video? I’d be happy to compensate you for the work!! Thanks boss
Great video man. Quick question. I have the CL and have not yet set it up for DCS. I see your still using your mouse to control the cockpit controls. Is there a setting for this or does it just work this way? Also I have been considering the F16. I currently run the F18 mainly. Reason is the F16 has the side sticks and I may mount them to my sim rig. Let me know thoughts on comparison. Thanks man
It looks like you’re only recording view input from the right eye, which makes sense in VR. Is there a choice? Just an observation; great content thnx!
I actualy was triyng to look for a way to record both, didn't manage to find one that will show the VR in the qulity that I fly in, and had issues with recording that
@@LongShotChannel (If I understood correctly) maybe you should get an external capture device (basically an another PC) and it solve the main gaming PC performance wasting too during recording
Just out of interest, what settings are you running? Have you locked fps at 50%? I'd be interested in what dcs, nvidia and pimax play settings your running.
It’s not a must have, as the Crystal Light had fixed foveated rendering instead of the dynamic foveated rendering, however the eye tracking is a nice to have.
Is there a screen door effect with the Crystal? I have the 5k xr, which has a small amount of screen door effect. I’ve held off on the upgrade, so that Pimax can work out all the bugs.
Yeah. GS was big on WW2. He even had his own WW2 server and promoted it hard... up until Russia invaded Ukraine, and then he suddenly gained 100s of 1000s of subs over night and switched to making videos about the superiority of Russia's AF.
Imho the highlights are disapointing. They look washed out. The screen door is also visible there. Anyway still great headset. I also wish Pimax made some magnetic smart tags. You know, some little plastic/electronic things that I could magneticly (or 3M tape) attach to my cockpit in few places so I could see some point markers in VR. This could be easier to find some specific buttons on my SimPit.
I won’t play DCS without a VR headset ever again, I started when I bought a used Rift S 4 years ago, and on that headset I couldn’t read a single F16 button… The only problem with VR recording is that the view is offset to one side
Using VR is like doubling your pixel count. LS was also rendering an additional “monitor” for capture, it sounds like, so graphics quality was turned down. Make sure you have a strong graphics card.

Am I watching the same video? For me, in the cockpit the frame rate was too laggy. Loads of jitters. Yet outside the aircaft everything was great. I found the resolution of the terrain from inside the cockpit looking cheap. It made me feel nauseous. Sorry for the negative comments LS
Hey Longshot, for those of us who've gotten violently ill using VR headsets previously, what's your impression in comparison to previous headsets? Worth it, or stay with Track IR 5 & a nice huge monitor?
I got sick at first but you keep exposing yourself in small sessions that get progressively longer and you retrain your body to fly dcs in vr after so many years of trackir. There is lots of advice out there from a Google search to help you develop an exposure plan
Track IR is completely obsolete. It is just a small accessory toy for pc while VR headset is a huge part of 21st century multiple purposes technology. Huge different to even compare and I rather get a Quest 3s for half more price and get a whole system that function much better
I had the same problem at first. It’s L-alt + backs space to recenter. Sometimes it’ll jack itself and I’ll be riding outside on the nose, or on top of the intake. Good times.
So jittery though. This is the main reason I have shied away from Pimax headsets is the performance. Even a 4090 struggles. The oculus software is just so much better and runs so much better.
LOL you can't record how it looks in VR. It's useless to for commenting about details in the video because it's 2d recording not actual VR view. Same recording would be if you were using Oculus Rift from 2016 or Crystal from 2024. Just yours game level of details/settings and fps are true nothing else.
I was able to show how the VR works on the highest setting I was able to record with. You can see how it performs. The fact that It's not in 3D, I think is a no brainer to understand. Goes without saying
No matter what VR set you use, the fun ends when DCS can't maintain stable frames. It will happen sooner or later, no matter how powerful your PC is. DCS is pathetic in the context of VR in the long run. Cool as an experience, awful as a routine flying.

Is there any direct quality of image, coming FROM VR? Tracking is not filtered much and it is jumpy to say the least.

VR frame drops can be fixed with a drop-in upgrade to a 5800X3D (or whole upgrade to a 7800X3D or coming 9800X3D.) DCS thrives on cache
