      With ivies getting good grade does matter a lot, try not to get anything but As if you can go better your chances. Obviously wouldn’t guarantee you in by any means but it helps your chances of not getting rejected off the bat. I will say though that if Oxford/Cambridge is interesting to you and you are super interested in one particular subject, maybe try applying there too. They don’t care much about grades other than the grades you have for the specific field of study you plan to pursue. I know someone who was very into math (one of the best in the state) but had bad grades in all his non-stem classes, but he got into Oxford

      Ok... let me tell you why what you are doing is really not a good way to approach this whole situation
      1.) You are not a shoo-in for any college with a sub 20 percent acceptance rate unless if you are a legacy, recruited athlete, etc. These colleges are highly selective and there is a strong possibility you will get rejected regardless, let alone Ivy schools which boast acceptance rates in the single digits.
      2.) Context matters. Essays are read. Theres more than just your grades and we can't tell you if your ecs are impressive because we aren't AOs. None of us know so much more about the college admissions process than you do, and when AOs are trying to build a well rounded class - context matters.
      3.) They can leave you with too much hope when it comes to highly rejective colleges. Be realistic with yourself, you have great grades and test scores, but so does everyone else in these applicant pools. Have targets in mind, have safeties in mind. Apply to your dream school! But always have a "back-up" that you can see yourself attending and thriving.
      So no, you aren't guaranteed admission at an Ivy just because you have great grades and ec involvement. You can go 0 for 8. Don't let that discourage you, but understand that these "chance-mes" are not helpful. They don't provide any valuable insight into your actual chances as again, we aren't Ivy League AOs. You CAN get accepted into an Ivy, but when the time comes - apply to safeties, don't only get hung up on just one or two schools (the Ivy league is just a collegiate athletic conference that happens to consist of prestigious schools at the end of the day), and be realistic about your chances at any college you apply to. You could get a great scholarship at your state school, and a lot of these honors programs will treat you like royalty. Don't take those options out of the equation. Good luck! :)

    • @JustAnotherLokiStan
      @JustAnotherLokiStan 2 роки тому

      I'm gonna be honest with you. Your grades are good, I don't doubt you'll be disadvantaged for a couple of B's. But your extracurriculars are not up to the mark. Thousands of people do volunteering now just to get into college, if you don't show more interest and go a level deeper then it won't help you at all. Also, it depends on what you're planning to study. If you're planning to study something related to med, then volunteering on an ambulance will be good. If not, then it won't help you get into college. I'm not saying you should stop doing it, but it's not a good activity in this particular context unless that's the field you wanna pursue. Keep in mind that your activities don't have to be related to your major; they're activities, after all. But volunteering is so common nowadays, it's just not gonna make you stand out unless that's what you intend to do in the future as well. You still have two years left, so I would suggest pursuing activities you're REALLY interested in, even if they're not related to your major. If volunteering and med are truly your passions, then go for it. But also, essays and recs are VERY important. You can have all the activities in the world and still not get in if you don't have compelling essays. Likewise, you can have no activities at all and get in if you're able to weave a captivating story. So make sure your essays are awesome. I would suggest structuring your essays around your top choice college. Read essays that were accepted to your top choice college, mark out what stands out in each of those essays and see what qualities they all have in common, then try to incorporate those qualities in your essays. Keep in mind that different colleges want different kinds of people, hence different kinds of essays as well. For example, Stanford has a history of accepting people with very quirky and humorous essays. Harvard on the other hand doesn't like quirky essays all that much, and prefers a display of genuine passion in a more traditional way. See what fits you best, and go for it. Good luck. ❤️👍
