The way you visualise, scribe, cut and then hammer such complex three dimensional shapes from a flat steel sheet is just awesome. Warms the heart of this old fella to know that such skill is still out there.
I discovered your channel. I've been following your previous episodes of the MX5 and I'm excited to learn from watching you work. With talent, patience, determination and a few tools, you can bring this car back to life...it's fantastic ! Thank you and good luck...
Loved the series on this mx5 as I own one of these myself … your metal craftsmanship is fantastic ….Hope we get to see the owner at the end of this series I think they will be truly great full you have saved there mx5 .
Hi guys, I've got a real passion for these little cars and have 2 of them , it's a shame they rust so bad but it's great to see another one being saved from the scrapyard, great metal work once again, cheers , Alan
Patch pannel looks very nice, but isn't Rust gonna come back from inside out in some years time or is inner sill/chasis structure being dealt with when replacing rest of sill/rocker pannel? Atm chasing my tail around e46 which had rocker pannel and quaterpannel which had been poorly repaired and lightly rusting from inside even after soaking gaps with phosporic acid
Both inner sill sections and outer sill sections will be cut out and replaced with good metal in the next video :) also everything after completion is soaked in rust neutralizer for anything that may have been missed, then waxoiled or grvitexed everywhere :) in few of these videos we have reminded people this is rust repair for an mot and a good few years not restoration, if you were doing this to last a very long time you would cut more rust out, this car has a very small budget for the amount of work being done :)
Amazing work on repairing this NB! Your videos are very informative and inspiring, i've got an Rx-7 at home that needs similar work. How would you go about welding around brake/ fuel lines that are secured to a rusty frame rail?
Thank you we appreciate the comments :) We work a lot of Rx7's we have 4 fd's three fc's and one fb here atm :) We would usually remove the lines and refab the brackets as they usually deteriorate, it's never a good idea to weld around them :)
Поделитесь опытом какими средствами вы защищаете металл от ржавчины после сварки .Я также начал восстанавливать свой авто .В этом дале я полный новичок Я заметил какое-то средство Bodi.
The rust protection is a general rust neutralizer that can be purchased from most motorist discount stores and after completion we would be wxoiling the whole car :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration you just know I am going to ask one more question :) . What wire for the MIG? I am still in the phase of research and making sure I have the best tools for the job in my big big DIY restoration I look up to you guys for my standards.
I think Yorkshire might be a bit far from wiltshire to drive an MX-5 with no mot for sill repairs 😋 otherwise I would be bringing it up. That being said technically not against the law with insurance! Hmmm
we have had cars from your neck of the woods before Rich, they have just been safe in the knowledge there were no other specialists near them to do the job :)
Another great Video but there is no way a punter at home can hope to fabricate that unit in one go. That takes years of tin bashing experience. I noticed you cut out the rear jacking point, is that replacement section strong enough at the jacking point to take the Mazda supplied jack putting all the load on that point behind the sill at what you call the bulkhead without strengthening it. The part is no longer available. As usual wonderful work!
Hi Eddie, yes the jacking point is supported by four layers the inner bulkhead, the two inner sills and the outer sill, the two inner sills and the outer sill will be fabricated in the next video :) and yes it dose support the car :) I have been fabricating these sections for over 20 years so it's tried and tested and we see them years later with no issues :) 👍

Have you ever thought of creating templates for repairs do often?
We do have templates but most are totally diferent so we don't use them often.
What filler do you use? Great work. Just about to embark on one myself
If I remember correctly it's upol easy1

Incredible
Love it thank you
Thank you for your support John and glad your enjoying the vids :)
I am surprised, you guys dont have these Panels already made up, as they are common places to rot.
We can't really as they damage is always diferent :)
Also we don't have time to pre make panels as we are rushed off our feet most of the day :)
