Just tested it, hands down that's the best 1940 fighter. It's not even close to the small designs like 2 to 1 exchanges... Seems to be hitting that sweet spot with agility/attack/defense.
Which is stupid, because heavy fighters IRL sucked in the fighter role! Haha

Here it is! The plane designer video! Let me know what kind of designs have been working for you. The strat and nav bombers listed at the end take a fair amount of losses if they get challenged so keep an eye on them.
Personally, the best fighter design that has worked for me is:
Medium Airframe
Top row completely filled with 4x hmgs
4 engines
And the rest of the slots is taken up by armor plating or one slot allocated to strategic resources if you don’t have aluminum.
Don't add anything else in the rest of the slots to save the ic
I'm kinda disappointed that the only thing that matters now is just Air attack. It hasn't improved on the previous version where the only stat that mattered was agility. Hopefully PDX can rebalance the game so that Speed, Agility and Air Attack/Defense can all be useful but I doubt it.
Air defence is king stat not air attack
this is wrong on 2 fronts lol. air attack isnt the most important stat now. air attack speed air defense and agility are all now quite balanced with eachother. in the old meta the best fighter was 5 engine 5 attack 5 range.
Finally i get why my cas designs looks like they get no ground attack, didnt realize i had to check the adjusters before this vid. Thanks!
I think they changed formulas again: speed doesn’t change with increasing weight, but agility does
Thank you so much. Your videos are very helpful and I always learn from you. I hope PDX, changes a bit the air combat as air attack is the only useful Stat now. They should strike a balance.
I have a lot of trouble intercepting enemy bombers, heavy fighters just do not work it feels like. As Germany I had air superiority over france, but my attack totally stalled at the Ardennes because my logi was entirely bombed into the ground..
Does Speed play a role in Air Combat? And how important is Agility now after the update?

Less agility -> lost battle, same agility but less speed -> lost battle.
agility / def / attack are the stats you want to maximize

You can make a fighter with the medium. If you look at Alexander Holt's comment that's the lead contender for best fighter.
The only thing I want from this DLC is the plane designer. The mods I play with (Rt.56) does focus trees better.

I'm experimenting with this right now, so advice was very welcomed.
I'm curious to see how my designs do in combat. I like to design high quality high cost stuff in general. In naval, it wins the battles. Tanks…I think so, but there it's little bit unclear. But the air. I hope it works, but I fear the AI will demolish me.
I would design those planes so badly as i was extreamly excited for this update. however Sadly im having troubles with hoi4. Right when it finishes loading the game crashes, i dont have mods activated and compleatly reinstalled the game but it doesnt work.
Do any of the add-ons lower your agility? If so, is it worth sacrificing agility for more power or defense?

Planes in this new update are a lot more expensive. I can imagine a future patch that reduces the cost a bit. You now have to spend 42 IC just to get a decent small frame fighter, compared to late game fighter 3s that never costed more than 28 IC in the past.
that means they are expensive to all so which means late game will be fluent later since ai couldn't spammed thousands

i dont know if it is because armored tains have now AA, but i did not have much luck with GlasCannon CAS. i think its worth it to not go to crazy on modules that reduce agility and have some defence.
The update let's the AA built by civ factories shoot down CAS doing logi bombing, so that could be why. Didn't check if armored trains get AA now too, but that'd be awesome if they did. It would make sense to slap an AA gun or two on a train that costs a fortune to build.
I have mostly problem with replaicing and modernizing squadrons from old designs to better designs. I just don't understand how it works.
Production tab, click on the aircraft symbol, decommission the plane you no longer intend on using(green button). Same with tanks
If befor BBA nav bombers is 30IC, but in with BBA is 60IC. In focus tree you can get -10%IC lover on aircraft
In 30IC 10% is 3 with 60IC 10% is 6
30IC witn no buff to production forn 1 per day you need 10 fac with 10% you need 9
For 60 you need 20 with 10% you need 18. That is 2 fac for XY
USA is now more op
is it worth it to produce fighter bomber? i mean if you play as minor nation you don't have capacity to produce separate line of airframe to fulfill ur needs

None of this matters since it's extremely painful tedious and almost pointless to attempt to control air wing composition, once you are in a position to upgrade. The air unit tags don't work, and the other controls are extreme micro to get any control over air wing composition. PDX really messed up the air paradigm by removing air wing composition management in the game.
Is there a button in the game for like defending a strategic city got encircled like leningarde ? Like categorizing more equipment for a specific division/customizing an air transport plane for supplying a specific division or like that??
In my games with Italy when I request civilian factories in the peace treaty after some months they disappeare, is it because im still at war with other countries?
1:16 - use a medium airframe to have more range, but then apply armor plates to reduce range and to make it even more expensive 🥴
Agility is more important than defence, and it's already lower compared to small frames.
Imho - prioritise medium cas with max range and ground attack while rolling motorized divs asap.
If you have to zerg paratroopers - prioritise air superiority with cheap medium fighters.
If you have to be on the defending side - only spam small fighters with 0 range mods.
Personally, I don't use cannons on my fighters. More often than not I'll make a general purpose aircraft that has HMGs in all but one offensive slot, then use that slot for rocket rails. No agility penalties, you can set it on cas in an area and it will attack ground and air, killing everything.
the better fighter is the medium frame fitted with max cannons and max cannon turrets. you have around 140 air attack and it wrecks agility based fighters
That is too bad, I hoped there would be some room for multi-role aircraft. Even historically, fighters would carry a bomb or two to fulfill some CAS role.
Honestly agility should never had been nerfed. Why was it nerfed in the first place. I get it for bombers but for fighters?

So Is there any difference among small medium and large aircrafts? Like If you have huge aluminium resource but small manpower, which aircraft model suits on you?

Honestly feel some of the hybridization's they chose are strange. Like, the aircraft tank busters are 99% similar to a heavier cannon if we look at historical examples, so the fact that they are instead just lower weight bombs that stay active as a fighter is really bizarre.
Really, they should be a somewhat weight inefficient cannons (times 1) that allow a few ground attacks to be taken in addition to the cannons air role, rather then somehow being as effective as a bomb at taking out a railway (???)
The tank buster cannons are way different from the automatic cannons used in the AA role. TB cannons are stuff like the Tankbuster Stukas' 37mm pods. Semi-auto, high velocity weapons derived from light anti-tank guns that pack way more firepower per shot than the shorter-barreled, lower-velocity autocannons used to fight aircraft.
@@magni5648 The NS-37 was built for tank busting but when it initially debuted it caused german aircraft tactics to change because they were afraid of anecdotal stories of planes being destroyed in a single hit.
The MK-101 was similarly multi-role and extremely common on german medium aircraft.
A lot of the early autocannons used for tank busting were multi-role, IE: Anything that could be produced in 1940, where as 1942 and 1945 cannons were split between being multirole (NS-37) and single role (BK-3.7, BK-5, the british 57...)
Early low-weight tank busters probably would act like single barrel, prohibitively heavy cannon 2's in addition to their ground raiding role, even if at-cannon 2's simply should be useless against aircraft.
Can you make a fighter using large aircraft frame? Thats what I wanted to do as soon as I heard about plane designer but I still cant :(

Bro the whole point of huge airframes is putting heavy weapons on them, needless to say fighter MGs or even cannons do not require that much support from the airframe

I wish air battles had a UI like sea battles where you could see ships maundering. In the air context, it would be cool to see your air-wings going forward/back etc

For fighters it's better to start with the HMG for 'improved frames and move to cannons/hmg mix with the '44 fighters late game. Stats are more balanced now then when BBA was release. Use medium frame if you're fighting mostly outside of Europe for the better range. As far as the tact/nav/strats go there are a lot of conditional situations where one type is better than another. Generally you should max your damage stat(s) if you're confident in green air, otherwise you'll need a balance. I'll have an update on this soon with more videos explaining the air mechanics.
