In 2002 walking into Croke Park a boy from Crossmaglen shouted my nickname, (from school in St Pat’s Armagh), across the street. Hadn’t seen him in 20 years but knew exactly who it was. He stood there giggling and it was great to catch up. Haven’t seen him since but walking in last Sunday the same thing happened by the same boy. And guess what- We won both days - next time- I’m going to run to stick the house on the result with Paddy Power 😂😂😂 C’mon Armagh

Never thought a Monaghan man could be so sour.

For Dick to say no one in Armagh thought they could win an all Ireland sums up his name

Wasn't a great final, they seldom are. The Armagh performance against Kerry in the semi final was outstanding.
    Give them some credit here!!!!

Regarding possible rule changes I have two suggestions. I think the goal should be to make these changes policable and not too restrictive to the players. The first one is fairly simple and has probably been suggested somewhere before as it seems fairly obvious. Once a player enters the opponents half , they should not be allowed kick the ball back to a teammate in the other half. A hand pass is fine because again we don't want to be too restrictive to the players but the kicking over and back was probably the worst thing about the spectacle yesterday and it needs to go! I think it's a policable rule change and might even incentivise defenders to push up and pressurize when they know opponents can't kick the ball backwards in their own half. The second suggestion is more radical. I think we can all see that teams putting 15 men behind the ball is making for a terrible spectacle - we would prefer teams to not be allowed do that. It's a tactic that makes the inside forwards who used to be our marquay, box offices players marginal figures in the game and borderline redundant! However, having a rule where we only allow a certain amount of players inside their own half in general play is pretty much unpolicable so I think the only time to do it is at kick outs. We make sure that there are six backs and six forwards inside the 45 metre line for every kick out and we then allow for the goalie or designated kicker to kick from the 30 metre line with a rule that the kick has to go past the half way line. The kick goes into the half forward line and if the forwards win it they have an incentive to be urgent in attack before the blanket defence gets back and if the defence wins it they also have an incentive to move the ball forward as quickly as possible. This will leave more space for one and one battles and for marquay forwards to do their stuff. We could even be more radical and let the designated kicker take it from the 45 metre line making it even harder for the blanket defence to come back. It's not perfect by any means but it will be a good chance for these innovative coaches to be more creative with their tactics while also making the game a more entertaining attacking spectacle. It could change the game but still be policable. This rule about getting two points for a long range score and 4 for a goal will make things worse! Two points for a long range score gives you even less incentive to find the inside box office forwards and four for a goal will only force teams to be more defensive because they will be even more petrified of giving away goals. I still enjoy watching Gaelic football and even enjoyed yesterday's final more than most but these long, boring spells of over and back kicking in front of a 15 men defence have to be addressed and I'm wondering what ye lads think of my suggestions here?

Armagh have a relatively young manager whose livelihood depends on the success of the team, making sure all of the players get that bit of attention that they require (same as Magennis in Donegal). Part time managers or retirees cannot provide the same motivation so average teams with full time paid managers will do better, dont be surprised to see McGeeney and Magennis in next years all ireland final

Incredibly disappointing and disrespectful take on the final and the accomplishment of that Armagh team.
Not being able to name the starting 15 ? Speaks volumes on your credibility as a “analyst” - not on the quality of the Armagh players.
So much bitterness and bias - embarrassing really. Won’t be tuning into this again.

No logic? Canavan and Paul Flynn(&myself) tipped Armagh for logical reasons. 1. Comer and Walsh obviously not at races plus Sean Kelly missing. No team can win an All Ireland without their top men.
    2. Several Armagh players hit a vein of form & they finally were getting some luck.
At least Dick admitted his bias over his frustrations not getting over the line with Monaghan. I understand entirely the regrets.

Armagh needed things to go wrong for Galway and right for them, that's what happened, Connery going of so son was one of them, Walsh was off form, didn't press soon enough as the lads said, Armagh are no world beaters but they have 15 men behind the ball to make up for their technical inabilities, Galway will definitely know this was one that got away unfortunately
