    @MrTmann14 yes, exacltly the same size, even if the bore of the octocontrabass is bigger than the octocontralto

    Do you know if the design for either octo clarinet was patented, and if so, are these patents still current? If not, perhaps someone could make copies of these clarinets...

    I am currently finishing a book on woodwind instruments and am wondering if you might have a photo of the Octos that I could use in the text?

    Turning the speed up to 1.25 or 1.5 is fun on this one...
    Seriously though, that octocontrabass is massive!

    The Octocontrabass and Octocontralto should be much larger and wider, as well as the Octacontrabass Sax, so it would better handle all this slower vibration.

    The small clarinet cannot play, it was made by Lablanc company in 1946

    it is the octocontralto, in fact the octocontrabass doesn't play so much, many pads should be changed...

      Any repairman could easily replace the pads, so why not do it?

      When you first played this instrument, it has a distorted sound.

    Is there a Octocontralto playong in this piece? I play Bb contrabass clarinet and some of these notes sound too low to be played by a Bb contra.

    • @lukasjohnson3489
      @lukasjohnson3489 7 років тому

      In my opinion, I think Bb contra is the lowest instrument used in this piece. The lowest note I distinctly heard was at the ending few notes on a really low Bb which is possible on a contrabass with a low C extension, which a good amount of pro contrabass players use, including Cyrille. It also has the distinct sound of a contra low C to me but it could have been played on Octocontralto or even Octocontrabass by just playing a left hand middle C.

      Also just realized an ad for the concert playing the music at 3:22 in this vid. It shows a picture of a Bb contra to low c and says "Hommage à Léon Leblanc" so I think it is safe to assume that it was Bb contra used in the song to hold up the low end and not the octocontrabass or octocontralto.

    I'm curious, was it intended to be playable, or just as an ornament?
    And what's keeping the octocontabass from being playable?

    It's probably not the octocontrabass, but maybe the octocontra-alto. The lowest voice in the choir is sounds like it is playing uncomfortably low for a contrabass clarinet.

      +Foxy the Pirate Fox The guide at the museum told me this summer Mr. Mercadier restored it a few years ago (presumably 2011) and since the video shows both him playing the instrument and a newly made reed, I assume he made it play.
