There is a safe on the beach at krakens, you can run in and get it quickly and not fight anyone. you could build on three barrel island the ramp has a gap at the top that mobs can't get up, and build a base on top of there. infact I think that is such a good idea I'm going to try it myself. Herbs stack in 20's they are a must have if you aint got any antibiotics, keep the pick on the boat. you was lucky getting that copper those guys have got machine guns and grenades, you will swim or run faster when you have nothing in your hands.
The mission to start building by putting down a 4x4 square, didn't mean you should only build it that size, my own base is built on top of the Traders and is initialy 6 x 9 for the last 3 of the 9 I made it 9 so it is kind of an L shaped, each floor up is a different shape, I'm 4 floors high, including the two traders floors makes it 6 floors total, building tips, put down a base, then pillers, put a roof on the pillars using flooring, you need to jump to a ladder to get up to the flooring, remove the pillars and the base platforms, go up as high as you like, mobs can't jump, but we can :) always remove the pillars they get in the way and you don't need them, it doesn't matter if you got things on the flooring when you remove anything nothing will fall, so that game mechanic is similar to enshrouded, I never built in wood, started with scrap iron, changed it to iron flooring later on. later on you can get a robot that has a 48 slot hopper, you just throw everything in and it puts everything away for you. Use barrels for storage, you can one click everything into them, then take back what you want to keeps, and they stack, therefore they take up less space.
The neon signs will also provide light and block the enemy, mobs don't try to destroy neon signs and they cant jump over them. atm I have 170 spare ingots therefore I have too many ingots. I will probably build up another floor. The contracts trader has a mission for 20 copper ore you need to pay 5 silver for them, I have done that mission a few times, the flying boat was awesome :D There are four traders at the traders. bottles stack into 20
