Had a chance to borrow a Q2. The first thing I noticed as soon as I got in my hands is how light it is. Most Leica's are heavy, this one is not. The autofocus was great. The viewfinder was very good. Fixed lens at 28mm but with it being a 47mp sensor you can crop the image in post processing and still have a sharp image. It's an outstanding camera for being a 28mm full frame 47mp camera.

"If a lens works great, why change it..." I'm not sure I can agree with this a 100%. Here is why: every lens in the market has its limitation in terms of resolving power. While this lens might be very sharp when paired with a 24MP sensor does not mean it will performance the same with a 47MP. For instance, Dpreview has just released a sample gallery of this Q2. After reviewing all the images, especially the portraiture ones and the dog images, I've come to the conclusion that it definitely has more resolution but not so much for sharpness.

Sounds like he's reading off bits from the press release, introducing the camera but not providing any independent analysis except when substantiating a feature based on his personal experience. I guess this means it's a 'buy' recommendation!
We also do full in-depth reviews, but this was an overview of a brand new camera, not a review. And definitely didn't read anything. LOL. Due to extremely short notice (overnight), this video was completely unscripted. I have since shot with the camea and it is indeed a great performer. If you haven't seen our recent Red Dot Forum Camera Talk livesteream on the Q and Q2, I'd recommmend checking it out here: ua-cam.com/video/4u_K0qDutxw/v-deo.html
What does anyone gain from removing video? I love the video on my Q, and the 4K video is a big incentive for me to get the Q2. I think the Q video is a way underrated feature. It looks gorgeous and the perfect focus ring makes it easy to pull focus and get professional looking results.
With the Q2, you can use a "virtual" 35mm focal length and still come away with a 30MP image. As far as video, the button is gone, so if you don't want to use video, don't use video. It's inclusion won't impact still photography in the slightest.
Great camera. However, what we know and what Leica knows is what most want is the Q2 will a lens similar in range and quality to the zoom on the D-Lux. Hopefully we'll get that in the Q3. Please Leica....(And please don't mention the potential for cropping. D'you really think I'm not aware of that ?)
It looks like a Gucci handbag with a lens slapped on it. Although they are in a different price bracket and represent the different sides of the same marketing demographic the fujifilm x pro 2 is a much better looking, feeling and functional camera. Plus it has one of the best standard lenses currently being produced and it can change lenses to suit the situation.
The upcoming Leica 28mm f/2 APO-Summicron-L will probably cost around $5,000. A Leica 28mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH for the M system currently goes for $6,595. So, yes, I'm sure.
Thanks for the feedback. So even with the background music at -36dB (very low volume), you guys think it's too much? I'd certainly consider eliminating background music in the future if its detracting from the video. Curious to hear other thoughts on this.
@@RedDotForum It detracts from the presentation ... its just a basic nagging electronic loop ... it draws your attention from your pitch. I had to stop watching at 04:35. And yes I'm a musician:) I know its trendy but in five years EVERYONE WILL BE OVER IT. :)
Leica actually did this back in 2004, with a product called the Digital-Modul-R. It could be fitted to the R8 or R9 film SLR to convert it to a DSLR. Was a phenomenal camera - probably the one that finally converted me to digital. There was also a company in the late 1990s, early 2000s called Silicone Film that aimed to do this with any film camera using what looked like a film cassette with leader sticking out. They didn't last too long.
As much as I would like an M, their prices are too high for my budget. This even gives me pause. Wish it had optical viewfinder option, and USB-C port. And maybe a 35mm lens.
Had the original Q and later sold it. It just looks too serious for street or travel photography in this day and age and the red dot attract too much attention.
Not really. Sony A7RIII with G Master lens is still cheaper and more capable. This Leica is pretty sweet though. Maybe now Sony will upgrade their RX1 MII.
This was an overview video, not a full review. For videos like this, we receive the camera the day before launch, which is simply not enough time to shoot real-world sample images. In other videos, like our review of the Q2 Monochrom or M10 Moncohrom, we've got plenty of images because we had a few more days to work with the camera prior to filming.
The Q2 is definitely not a Panasonic. While Leica and Panasonic are long-time partners, with Leica providing optical expertise and Panasonic electronics, the Q and Q2 and 100% Leica. There isn't even a camera close to this in the Panasonic line-up. The original Q came out in 2015, with a full-frame sensor. Panasonic didn't release a full-frame camera until early 2019. So....
Regarding WEATHER SEALING on the Q2. I did NOT buy the first Leica Q because it was not weather sealed Leica claims that the weather sealing is IP52. -The #5 represents infiltration of dust, reading: "Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact". -The #2 represents protection against infiltration of liquids; "Vertically dripping water shall have no harmful effect when the enclosure is tilted at an angle up to 15° from its normal position." Question >>> If my new Leica Q2 allows dust or water to enter through the lens or body joints will they repair or replace camera no questions asked while under warranty (2 yrs correct?) or will they claim '"MIS-USE / ABUSE" if dust or water entered the camera in conditions other than specified in the IP52 standard? - I carry my camera every day. I walk down dusty streets and roads and often there are winds and or gusts of winds kicking up dust. Also when out shooting in rain I protect my camera under my coat till I am shooting BUT there are often wind blown rain drops hitting the camera. Anybody want to offer some thoughts without me calling Leica for an answer? thanks

If you haven't seen our recent Red Dot Forum Camera Talk livesteream on the Q and Q2, I'd recommmend checking it out here: ua-cam.com/video/4u_K0qDutxw/v-deo.html
Wish they would put a 35mm lens on it and removed the video features.
The whole point of the Q was to be exactly *not* that! Just buy an M ;)
S1R + PL28 will sure cost more than $5k.
But I'll stick with my A7iii + FE28
It looks like a Gucci handbag with a lens slapped on it. Although they are in a different price bracket and represent the different sides of the same marketing demographic the fujifilm x pro 2 is a much better looking, feeling and functional camera. Plus it has one of the best standard lenses currently being produced and it can change lenses to suit the situation.
the lens alone would cost over 5000 $? Are you sure?
The upcoming Leica 28mm f/2 APO-Summicron-L will probably cost around $5,000. A Leica 28mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH for the M system currently goes for $6,595. So, yes, I'm sure.
Ya but this is an old lens not a that new 5000 lens.. it’s literally the same fuckin lens
And the price is?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Grin Cadorna He said the price at least twice - $4,999
Good review, but please... kill the 'music' - so disturbing!
@@RedDotForum , it is the repetition... For some people it is just noise; for others, it is like a dental procedure.
I didn’t even hear the music until I read this comment.
@@RedDotForum what artis is it? i like that sound
Somebody needs to come up with a business to mod Leica film cameras to digital. No back display is fine.
@@RedDotForum Oh yes I remember those. With today's technology I'm sure some Chinese companies will do that modifications.
Is Leica Q2 mirrorless?
Yes. The Q2 is a live view mirrorless camera.
Thanks Leica to give me an idea to get the Full Frame Sony A7R2 with interchangeable len just half the price of this camera.
As much as I would like an M, their prices are too high for my budget. This even gives me pause. Wish it had optical viewfinder option, and USB-C port. And maybe a 35mm lens.
So no optical zoom or yes?? Not sure... anyone know?
No, this is a fixed 28mm focal length camera. You can crop in if you want.
only on card slot so bad ;)
dand now we’re up to $5798
But it still can't take a photo at ISO 6400 and 25 seconds why £5000 camera and i can't shoot the milky way. Sold mine for the Sony A1
DON'T need the pixeles !!!
You didn’t mention that in video mode you have ZERO control. Locked at f1.7 auto iso and shutter speed. Useless for real video use which is a shame
Had the original Q and later sold it. It just looks too serious for street or travel photography in this day and age and the red dot attract too much attention.
You can put black tape over the red dot. Or wait until Leica releases the Q2-P, a version without the red dot, which will cost an additional $1k 😁
Attractive camera. I’ll stick to my Z7 though.
In short: fans of the Japanese brands got toothaches ... Again.
Not really. Sony A7RIII with G Master lens is still cheaper and more capable. This Leica is pretty sweet though. Maybe now Sony will upgrade their RX1 MII.
@@sosomelodies659 Cry...
don't lies about ISO is better. just show pictures
Leica Q-P has off-single-continuous
The video title should be a talking head talks about a Leica Q2. More camera!
leica q and sony rx1 is a bad attempt to recreate 35mm film compacts
#buyfilmnotmegapixels
It is not about the gear show pictures next time
This was an overview video, not a full review. For videos like this, we receive the camera the day before launch, which is simply not enough time to shoot real-world sample images. In other videos, like our review of the Q2 Monochrom or M10 Moncohrom, we've got plenty of images because we had a few more days to work with the camera prior to filming.
You need to look up the definition of "fully weather sealed" before using it in a review.
You had to admit it...Leica digital camera is a rebrand camera of Panasonic mounted with its lens...
So....
Another Leica camera for dentists!
I’m a mechanic and I have a Q-P. I should have studied harder lol.
Regarding WEATHER SEALING on the Q2.
I did NOT buy the first Leica Q because it was not weather sealed
Leica claims that the weather sealing is IP52.
-The #5 represents infiltration of dust, reading: "Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact".
-The #2 represents protection against infiltration of liquids; "Vertically dripping water shall have no harmful effect when the enclosure is tilted at an angle up to 15° from its normal position."
Question >>> If my new Leica Q2 allows dust or water to enter through the lens or body joints will they repair or replace camera no questions asked while under warranty (2 yrs correct?) or will they claim '"MIS-USE / ABUSE" if dust or water entered the camera in conditions other than specified in the IP52 standard?
-
I carry my camera every day. I walk down dusty streets and roads and often there are winds and or gusts of winds kicking up dust. Also when out shooting in rain I protect my camera under my coat till I am shooting BUT there are often wind blown rain drops hitting the camera.
Anybody want to offer some thoughts without me calling Leica for an answer?
thanks
fritzv46 It’s the same weathersealing as the SL and I never heard of a problem with it so should be ok I think... 😉
