- Welcome to today's video! After watching Brian Shaw's recent video on his new 5,500 calorie fat loss diet, I was inspired to give it a try myself as well as try some of the staple strongman training movements. Coming from such a bodybuilding/ powerlifting background, it was a huge adjustment for me but I had a great time learning!
Throughout this vlog I go through each of Brian's 5 meals and give my honest opinion on it.

Yeah, Will's videos is what keeps me going when on a deficit. I use them as a carrot for me when cutting. I limit my watch time to only watch them when cutting, that way it gets fun when im cutting hehe. Might sound a bit strange, but it really works.

@@panosf5779 its a well known recipe from years ago. Posted, modified etc since first bodybuilding forums. Hell it was on UA-cam years ago. Doc just claimed it as his own (same with egg white french toast), so he can get richer than last time

What's wrong with using cup measurements to track portions? The LAST thing I want to do is get out the pencil and paper and track calories. I mean, shit, Eugene Sandow didn't. He just did portion control with bland, healthy foods.
@@ChristAliveForevermore why would you need a pencil? Most people track calories on their phones in 2021, and a kitchen scale would nullify the need to track anything.
As for cup measurements, Greg Doucette did a video on tracking, recently, that highlighted the lack of universal consistency in terms of what constitutes a cup.
I love so much that Ollie is still part of the videos. I look forward to the intros every time to see what new way he's getting tributed.

Every time I see Will lift, I love how great his form is. Since you have a background in personal training, would you ever consider making a video about how to keep good form for newbie lifters?
Quite easy... don’t overcomplicate. Just train a bit harder than last time. After a few years come back and improve etc
Don't grab too much
Leave the ego, go light with proper form, next week a tad bit more with proper form and so on, when your form breaks down you are too weak for that weight
Lift as much as you can, pick the weight up off the ground, pull as much weight as humanly possible, push more weight than you ever have before don’t worry about screaming joints just move the weight whatever way you can. After a few months you never have to worry about working out again.

Since I'm from the Philippines, Will's video is either the first or last thing I get to watch in a day. It comes to the point I'm excited to wake up early for Friday and Monday mornings. I guess the biggest way Will's video inspires me is to learn how to cook, and many more lessons about training and life. I'm still 17 and I got an entire life ahead of me, but it's awesome to learn these things before young adulthood. I just wanted to show my appreciation for your work, Will!

White Rice works for me on a cut. I focus more on my feeding window. I fast in the evenings and mornings, have white rice with both of my meals during the day. I definitely fill out my bowl with greens for higher volume eating along with whatever my protein is. Two giant bowls of rice, greens, and a protein source keeps me satiated and I get to eat until it's nauseating and still lose weight. White rice is also super easily digested which for me is huge.
Fruit for breakfast and as desert after dinner is my go to cutting food. Also agree with Katy salad for lunch with some grilled chicken can’t be beat

I don't really have a favorite cutting food. The way I set up my diet is that I build my meals around my maintenance calories. Then, if I'm cutting I just lower my carb intake to meet my calories and vice versa. I always eat 1g of protein per cm of height at minimum, 0.5g of fat per cm of height, and just play with carbs to fit my calorie intake. Then, if I'm bulking, I just eat my maintenance meal plan, then add a 200-400 calorie snack before bed of whatever I want because I already hit my macros for the day and it's a nice way to have a fun treat every night.
I guess though, for cutting, I would have to say sweet potatoes are one I like to use in general. I LOVE the taste and they are nutrient rich and pretty filling for the most part. Potatoes in general are good, but I find most potatoes very boring to eat, but sweet potatoes are much more enjoyable to eat IMO.
I literally just do a ton of cardio to cut. I actually get to get away with eating more since I need more energy to run/swim/cycle/row that much.
Only Will could take me on such an emotional rollercoaster in his videos from the intro with Ollie to his wicked sense of humour 😂
My number 1 cutting food is something I don't actually have on my plan and that is spinach, I can at max eat 300 grams of spinach, and then I have to lay down for a good 5 hours at the very least.
I'm not gonna lie Will, I've been watching your videos for years now, you're amazing, always so creative with the intros😂 Just want you to know that without really knowing, you helped me a lot with your videos, fitness wise as much as mental health wise, I appreciate everything you do & yourself aswell, keep your head up & remember... you always end up helping other people with your content❤️

Great video. The SSB is a great variation for the squat. I think the incline db bench is more for front delts and triceps than chest. But working chest is a good supplemental exercise for strongman. I'd recommend the SSB bar over a log if you're going to supplement your home gym. The SSB is great for preserving the elbows too.
You mentioned the vertical diet with the cardio. Brian Shaw in 2019 or 2018 did a year of the vertical diet with Stan Efferding. So the cardio is a hold over from that. Also, that's probably where the rice came from - Stan says the white rice is a great carb source, but also easily digestible, which is important with the amount of carbs you're eating to maintain 300-400+ lbs.
The cutting aspect of the diet isn't the rice, it's just the amount of calories. It's funny that Brian is so specific about asparagus, where an extra few, or tens, of grams makes little difference, but is okay eyeballing rice. I've seen him remove a blueberry after weighing it, like "I failed my diet because of an extra blueberry" is a real concern. lol

Fitness newbie here! I generally do push-ups & planks at home, pull-ups & one legged squats at outdoors fitness corners & dance classes once a week! I stand about 165cm tall and was roughly 87kg at my heaviest & I now weigh around 65kg, finally seeing a soft 6-pack peeking through 😭
Thai basil chicken on rice with a fried egg. It’s between that or roasted chicken breast sandwiches from subway. I snack on canned tuna as well, sometimes with soft fine wholemeal bread (genuinely enjoy it though I know lots of people hate canned tuna) or bananas & drink low fat milk or tea in between.
Altogether I generally hit just 1800 calories with 140g of protein a day weighing in around 63.5kg at my lightest during that diet. I’m currently trying to build muscle so all I do is just add an extra meal into the mix! Been working really well so far :D

Best cutting food for me. Blackened fish with rice and white shoepeg corn. All minced together in a bowl. Awesome flavors for me. I live in southern Louisiana so the Blackened seasoning is a staple for Cajun style food

My favorite cutting food would be costco's plain, fat free greek yogurt with 1 serving of banana. 200 calories and 18gr of protein. Keeps me full for 3-4 hours
