I actually really liked Envy, because of how she drives Riley to think about her reputation. Envy can drive us to think about how others think of us. As long as this isn’t taken to an extreme, this can help motivate us to make positive changes. Envy wants Riley to be confident and popular with her peers. So if Riley gets jealous of something, she has the choice to either dwell on the feeling, or do something to go achieve what she admires in others.
*Inside Out 3* : Riley in College *Inside Out 4* : Riley has a job and a family *Inside Out 5* : Riley has a mid-life crisis *Inside Out 6* : Riley becames old
I still don’t understand why Embarrassment only showed up after Riley is a teenager. It’s not like Embarrassment starts existing by that point, you still feel it as a kid.
Maybe it wasn’t powerful enough to manifest as an actual character. We see Riley having nightmares about having no pants in a school in the first movie, which isn’t scary because it’s harmful but because it’s embarrassing.
Because it's a movie and you need to simplify everything in order to not make it too crowded so the plot and the pacing could be done perfectly. So I guess they choose the most dominant emotions that most people feel at riley's age and align with their plot (which is not an easy job)
because once you start to gradually go into your adolescent years, you start to gradually become more self aware and open minded about your own actions, so when you start to feel embarrassed cringe at some of your own actions around that age its.. embarrassment 🤷🏽
Because Embarrassment is a more complex feeling, and kids like Riley in the first movie don't have complex emotions. Her embarrassment in the first movie was probably sadness, a really simple emotion that can be used normally when you're a child.
The new emotions resemble the older ones, but more extreme and reckless in a way. Yes, Riley have used sarcasm then, but she never used it against her friends which is what Ennui did. Meanwhile Envy, she's the one influencing anxiety, like suggesting what to do regardless if it goes against Riley's moral compass. Envy here makes sense to me, I know why she was here in this sequel: to keep anxiety on its toes. Which makes sense because, admit it, there are times when we look up to someone so much and envy their feats, that we fear "I might never be as good as them" and it will bring you a lot of anxiety. Embarassment, aside from helping sadness, is the counterpart of the latter. It keeps Riley's social cues grounded, he was not a fully fleshed out character here though. Ennui is much more than the sarcasm. She is disgust's counterpart, but not really the same. But with so much anxiety, the other emotions just didn't have the time to fully exhibit their importance in Riley's mind. Which made sense for me.
I will be honest. I loved inside out too. For me. This sequel is better than the original or at least as good. Disney and pixar are back to making good sequels again. I just hope it continues.

Omg I never thought about that either ahaha Considering that in order to keep Anxiety under control is calming tactics that people use irl (relaxation, tea, etc.) I think it would make complete sense if the medication affected her directly. By that I mean if Riley took anxiety medication I think it would make Anxiety calm down without the chair or anything.
This feels like clickbait. Amongst all the bad or mediocre things we get today, nowadays people are still acting ironic and anal towards things that are actually good and that really seems bad to me. People are going to be out right negative towards things that are actually good and a success and still find a way to be a dick about it. I'm hopeful Pixar will turn around a profit and turn around in general with making new movies again. People just need to relax and look forward to the next big thing such as Elio and give that movie some new love.
Think about it this way. You know how some people argue that while classic Pixar is really beloved, it's success might have had a part in killing 2D animated theatrical movies? I think people are worried about something similar with the sequels vs the originals as a matter of principle over individual quality.

8:21 Enui Keeps Riley chill when over stimulated and/ or overwhelmed Embarrassment keeps Riley from making the same mistakes again Envy helps Riley find out more about herself, what/ who she likes and wants to be like, and how to acquire those things or impress those people. I don’t think any of these characters were unnecessary and they made a big impact on all the kids watching. Now they know these emotions are normal and healthy ❤
The anxiety attack was my favourite scene in the movie Not only was it visually impressive but the message it conveyed was perfect, and the way Anxiety yelled at the beginning of the tornado was so genuine it was freaky And then the bit after that made me genuinely cry When Riley's new sense of self formed and she had all these conflicting beliefs about herself, I really felt that This movie hit way too close to home and I am absolutely here for it Well done to the Pixar team here
Leave a comment if you know what Enui, Embarrassment, and Envy's roles are. Like this comment if you think it's a sign Pixar is gonna make a comeback after this movie.
Ennui saves riley from spending too much energy being overwhelmed and worried about things. Envy's role is to help riley focus on the things that she wants . Embarrassment keeping Riley out of socially awkward or embarrassing situations.
Ennui can help Riley have creative ideas since boredom can get a mind thinking about creative things, Envy can help Riley create goals in life, and Embarrassment can help Riley stay self-conscious about her surroundings. That’s just what I think at least
The part where Riley admits she’s not ok to her friends hit me like a truck. A very similar thing happened to me a few months ago. I didn’t have a panic attack, but I was going through a downward spiral of existential dread. It was such a relief when I finally fessed up to my family. God, I love this movie.
The fact that embarrassment is capable of stoping and holding all the other emotions is so powerful and really make me thought how much we stop ourselves for not looking ridiculous infront of others.
Another reason the anxiety attack scene hit me so hard is not just the anxiety stuff but how the core five emotions actually get back to HQ. How do they do it? By riding a literal avalanche of thoughts. And as they get back to the main area, those hundreds, if not millions of thoughts, take hold. They race up to HQ until they get stuck. It's only when Joy lets them through to become part of everything that things even out. As someone who has anxiety issues, i can relate so much with both attacks and racing thoughts. It all feels like way too much to handle sometimes. I really need to learn the grounding technique..
When it comes to sequels Inside Out makes the most sense out of anything. Its all character development throughout various stages of life. So it can be a good story until Riley becomes elderly.
For everyone here. If you've in theraphy, you'll realize a ton of concepts in this movie is so much deeper than a majority of people realize. A lot of it is graduate level psychology, and this movie presented it in such a genius way with metaphors. Just look at the first one and how the main characters are literally "bottled emotions " as she grows older by hitting puberty. So much more.
Are there tiny emotions inside joy? If so, how many levels deep does it go? Does tiny Joy-joy have an even tinier joy at her helm? As for the world building. ANXIETY is a type of fear. So she should have been fears, daughter, with disgust as her mother. Emotions mature and develop. The show should have kept that in mind.
The problem with disney and pixar is that they are trying to rush things. It's not that they make bad stories but they make rushed stories because they focus more on the visuals. Like I get that many kids do not think deeply about the film they're watching, but their sequels target the original movies' kids who are now teens/ young adults more than the current kids, and they care about more than just the visuals and one usual thing they look forward to is how the story develops from the 1st movie.
I think the second was just slightly better mainly because it was very mature but also really funny and stunning animation, I think this movie was awesome :)
Hm, fair and valid points and opinions, I guess we’ll see how things go from here. I also hope we get to see the New Emotions get more fleshed out in someway.

I honestly think Pixar could make up to 5 Inside Out movies. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a franchise that was set up for sequel opportunities better than this one. All they have to do is add new emotions each movie. Unlike the Toy Story franchise, which definitely should have ended with the third movie. Seriously, HOW ARE WE GETTING A TOY STORY 5???
i didnt like it nealy as much as every 1 elce. im big on internal continuity so the existence of more emotions after seeing the same 5 in Rilies parents and a bunch of other people is verry off. this also rases questions about emotions that arnt there. i get why u can have Lust in a Disney Pixar fill but were the heck is Love? maybe instead of Onwe we get a stoner coded Expectance, or Empathy or like Anxiety but directing there worries at others outside of Rilie. and i feal like there was to much character bloat. maybe should have been 1 besty, 1 positive new girl and 1 main toxic new girl. as much time as we spent with the humans it felt like it could have been better used. for me this movie was an 6.

Spoilers Ahead: It’s absolutely fantastic The story was relatable and absolutely beautifully written the characters were amazing the concept is just creative the new characters are just perfect Anxiety was entertaining and chaotic Envy is just funny Ennui is a mood and Embarrassment….I freaking love Embarrassment he is so freaking adorable. Riley’s growth in the sequel was just done beautifully her anxiety attack was just so well done and so well executed as someone who has anxiety this is just great. I like the concept of memories being put in the back of the head the ending of the big hug was just so wholesome and so sweet Joy Sadness Anger Disgust and Fear were absolutely amazing Joy being relatable to stuff Sadness was as wholesome as ever Anger Disgust and Fear were just absolutely hilarious I like they had an all equal and important role to play. Everything in this movie is pure genius I’m so happy I was proven wrong…now is it better the original? My answer…not necessarily I’ll say it’s almost as good like very very close this movie was so much fun to watch so I’ll give this 9/10
Personally I think that Envy is supposed to inspire us to be better versions of ourselves. Boredom is supposed to make sure we live a fulfilling life and embracement to help us learn from our mistakes.
The line where Joy says “People don’t feel joy the older they get.” That hit me like a truck and that anxiety scene with the orange swirl scared the crap outta me.
@@PlatinumGaming67 it was just overwhelming to me. I don’t think I’ve had panic attacks but I know some days I have gotten overwhelmed with so many tasks that I start to lose my mind
That movie gave me Anxiety, both literally and figuratively. I'm not sure if the writers knew what they were writing, they hit the nail to many complex thoughts and concepts. However I don't know if it was intentional or accidental.
Yeah... I'm pretty sure that's what the writers and directors were going for, it made the release scene hit so strongly that I legit cried. There wasn't anything sad about the movie, nor any reason I should've felt triggered by some scenes either, but thats part of what makes a good movie I suppose. It's like the viewer was put in the p.o.v. of "riley's moral/true self." Lead to any scene with moral breaking or character degrading of the non-emotion characters, feel so very wrong.
14:00 i have anxiety...and so does my dad....he has had anxiety attacks before and i only had one once a whole bunch of boys were surrounding me asking for my snapchat (even though i dont have a snap chat) and all i could to was tuck against a wall and cry... so i think this is a perfect represention of what that feels like. but on a more light hearted note.... WHY DOES ENVY LOOK LIKE NIFFTY????😭😭😭
Inside Out 2 is one of the best Pixar sequal since Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 when it came to connecting the audience, and giving us a good plot to the storyline. I wanted to spoilers until I got to see the movie to allow for a good impression. This is no different than watching Dreamworks Puss in Boots: The Last Wish where it connects with both children and adults when it came to explaining mature subject we all go through in our lifetime. We as humans grow and change everyday and those sophisticated emotions are a great addition as we age. Instead of supressing young minds for the sake of earning a profit for the film, these films educate us in real life situations like having an anxiety attack, fitting in, addressing our moralities, going through the stages of grief, separation, transition, etc. and still educating us in an entertaining matter. I would definitely reccommend seeing the movie and staying for the post credit scene, you'll thank us later. 😉
i also noticed we were being taught what to do when you have an ANXIETY attack. thinking about it now, the movies I grew up with someone was starting to spiral and someone usually tells them it's ok. or if you hyperventilate get a bag. This was way more helpful- head between your knees, deep breaths, touch something, listen to something.
When we got to learn that envy was one of the new emotions, I figured she would probably be a Driving Force, To push Riley into adapting to her new surroundings. The definition of Envy is Discontentment with one’s own Qualities and possessions, and a major part of the movie is that Riley is at risk of losing her sense of self because of anxiety trying to look out for her by dictating the right way to fit in, while envy is giving Anxiety things to look up to and what needs to be done to fit in regardless if it goes against Riley’s own morals and values.
Let's not get all doom and gloom over possible sequelitis just yet, I'm sure once they see how well Elio performs (assuming it's a hit), I'm sure they'll adjust their plans accordingly
Its modern Disney, you KNOW they wont. Especially after the mostly successful live action remake train. And with movies costing more than ever, its inevitable, like more AI use in their works as it improves.
I think Inside Out 2 is better than the first one. As someone who has Anxiety at the wheel with joy not far behind, I felt this one intensely. The moment of the anxiety attack is exactly how it feels. The only other movie I think nails that is Puss in Boots.
I'm worried that Turning Red would be the Hi-Fi Rush of the Pixar movies that I want more of it yet will never be touched again thanks to corporations stupidity
Pixar should produce original new and fresh films in theaters that excited people and not follow the wrong lessons from Inside Out 2 successes. I love this film and studio.

Spoilers Ahead:
It’s absolutely fantastic
The story was relatable and absolutely beautifully written the characters were amazing the concept is just creative the new characters are just perfect Anxiety was entertaining and chaotic Envy is just funny Ennui is a mood and Embarrassment….I freaking love Embarrassment he is so freaking adorable. My answer…not necessarily I’ll say it’s almost as good like very very close this movie was so much fun to watch so I’ll give this 9/10
I wouldn’t mind if they only made sequels, all their original movies lately have been garbage.
Anxie-TEA 💀
INANIMATE INSANITY
I saw it less than an hour ago and I loved it 9/10
This movie is wonderful loved it 🥹
Personally I think that Envy is supposed to inspire us to be better versions of ourselves. Boredom is supposed to make sure we live a fulfilling life and embracement to help us learn from our mistakes.
That sounds about right.
what about nostalgia
You mean embarrassment?
@@OssuckleFriends sorry yes
@@GAT957 my guess is to relive childhood joy and to get hope for the new generation.
The line where Joy says “People don’t feel joy the older they get.” That hit me like a truck and that anxiety scene with the orange swirl scared the crap outta me.
That scene with Anxiety absolutely shook me in the theater, bro, I was about to cry- but thankfully I didn’t. I adore Anxiety, favorite character
Why did it scare you
@@PlatinumGaming67 it was just overwhelming to me.
My thoughts: yes. Let's not forget that Pixar hired psychologists to get an idea of how the mind works metaphysically.
Embrassment had a whole mini arc
14:00 i have anxiety...and so does my dad....he has had anxiety attacks before and i only had one once a whole bunch of boys were surrounding me asking for my snapchat (even though i dont have a snap chat) and all i could to was tuck against a wall and cry... so i think this is a perfect represention of what that feels like.
but on a more light hearted note....
WHY DOES ENVY LOOK LIKE NIFFTY????😭😭😭
genetics are the worse

@@SkylarThompson-mu1qs im fine now :D dw
To answer your light hearted question, it’s because everyone (especially me) loves “smol and adorable chaos gremlins”.
Exactly.
W Power Ranger pfp
Oh yea Elio, that... Movie .... That exists.... Eventually
@@SnakeLordProductions Of course it will exist.
That Anxiety attack scene had me gripping my seats in the theaters. It was way more intense than it had any right to be.
Actually Pete Doctor stated the future of Pixar says that are more original animated films coming our way from the studio outside of Elio.
I'm worried that Turning Red would be the Hi-Fi Rush of the Pixar movies that I want more of it yet will never be touched again thanks to corporations stupidity
8:55 embarrassment did get a whole character arc with sadness
Pixar should produce original new and fresh films in theaters that excited people and not follow the wrong lessons from Inside Out 2 successes. I love this film and studio.
I think there is some room for sequels to though they don’t always have to get a bad wrap ☺️
@connormarchand6302 Agreed
