It is guys like you that will push your country forward and I salute you. A word of advise, both WELDING and heating “spring” steel will weaken the metal, that’s what caused your “snap”.

Something I learned to do starting when I would brake springs on my Caterpillar tractor walking beam, is like your blue part / spring steel when finished cutting and bending on it is to heat the entire part good and hot and stick it in isolation over night .
This annealing process takes the tension out of the work and it won't break again nearly as easy or often. Good Video Thank you

  • @humblehombre9904
    @humblehombre9904 4 роки тому +7

You should re-heat that entire part, then temper it properly. After bending it and working it, you likely caused the metal to have internal stresses and flaws, possibly small cracks. Something to remember for future? This is, however a very good idea.

That correct, not everyone wants to go buy a toe jack just to do your own projects Especially when U have the ability and knowhow to make your own, "Ingenuity", when that bend snapped off, it just needed annealing, U did that when U welded the piece back on. I guess 7018 ? Good Choice.

See this man lighting his oxy- acetaline
Torch with no o2: in the torch . The
Flame from only acetaline will carbon
Up the torch . The proper way to light
Is with all fuel and some oxygen .
And proper way to stop torch is turn off
Acetaline first giving no flame to carbon
    Up the torch .

Make sure you remove the hydraulic oil from the vessel before welding, if the oil is left in and excessive heat is applied from the welding it could cause the oil inside the cylinder / vessel to explode.

Do not, ever, put your hand nor anything belonging to your body, under a heavy load. He just didn't realized the same container that went down in front of him can go down again and he put his right hand under that mass chopping bulk of steel.
Don't do it again. Or you'll use the left one, until Jehovah regrow your smashed under a 4.8 Ton container right hand just to save few bucks. Don't play with your body pieces. Protect yourself, and keep inventing!
    Take care! And thank you!
Also, whenever you're placing a pad under your container. Use 2 minimum. Bricks whatever you use, use 2 +. If one decides to break, it'll hit the ground or loose level. 2 +, will back up one.

Should have reduced the load on one corner by jacking with two jacks. Then the original would have worked and you wouldn’t have wasted all your time. So you would need two? So what, I’m sure it cost less than all the time, effort, welding materials etc.
