@@The182joe It grabs hold of some of the contaminants in the recycled paper like large pieces of plastic or even cloth or clothing before it moves on through the process so as not to bung up the machinery...I've been a pulper operator for 35 years and you wouldn't believe some stuff you find in the bales of paper for recycle. Engine parts , clothes, toys, dead animals... You name it. I've found $20 s.. $50 and even $100 bills...Yep.

its actually called rag tail, and its continuously pulled from the pulper as the tail is formed. The machine pulling it called a ragger.
