Even if a penetration test or audit is performed, for a wallet to pass the test still does not guarantee that there are no vulnerabilities. Also, your funds are not stored on the wallet, so the wallet is not required to send or receive funds. Your wallet only stores keys, and if there is a way to compromise the keys without interacting with the wallet then you can be compromised despite taking all precautions to maximize security. Basically there is no way to guarantee security.

I don't trust wallets with internally generated and maintained keys. If that is broken you are lost. Decent security for your own keys solves a lot of issues.
I really don't like frequent updates on wallets. They say is to fix vulnerabilities but is very common for a broken update to happen eventually. And all wallets should explain with a lot of detail how Private keys are stored and encrypted. Most of them won't tell you and you have no idea how they interact with the internet.
If you a verified paper wallet generator, have an air gapped printer and computer, have redundancies and backups, PWs are still one of the safest cold storage options.

It happened to me on a stock trade when I am trying to get out and could not because the stock dropped so fast and a lot of people trying to get out and could not. Yah it happens in a collapse. Yes and keep it off the network. you can even just delete the wallet but make sure you have those recovery seed phrases . also haveing multiple wallets and spread your crypto throughout. meaning some btc in one wallet and some in the other. it sucks its a lot of work.
Educate yourself. Crypto never leaves the blockchain. You don’t store crypto, you store your keys that unlock the address on the blockchain where your crypto is stored.

It did NOT compromise their hardware wallet at all They have recently said they will add a feature that allows the partial release of private keys to a third party so you can opt in for a Ledger (hardware) + Ledger company + Third party wallet restore function. This announcement got a lot of people angry because people who bought their hardware don't want this - they should have offered it on future hardware wallets, not their current ones
