Fort Camden Walk - Brennan Torpedo

- This is an animation I made in 2018, but never got round to publishing. It was intended to give an impression of the interior of the Brennan torpedo station at Fort Camden. Camden Fort at Cork held one of the secret Brennan torpedo stations between 1887 and 1905 and was one of only 2 stations to have 2 launch ramps, such was the importance of the harbour at Cork. This animation is a walk through the installation, based on original drawings, and was produced in collaboration with Norma O'Connor for her MA in Digital Arts 2018. You can support my animations here: / vbbsmyt . Animation created using Cinema 4D. Music credits are shown at the end of the movie.

The soundtrack almost made me feel like I'm not supposed to be there and see this.
In the late 1800s this would of been the equivalent of walking into the most classified icbm launch center today.
It feels like walking down the hall of night mares the lowest level of the dulce secret underground base.
You’re not
This part of the fort was top-secret. Few knew about it in order to preserve the secrecy around the Brennan torpedo, as it was effectively a superweapon in its time: a torpedo able to move near-invisibly and be turned to aim at a target not completely in line with its relatively unassuming launch ramp.
This thing would have terrified everyone it could be pointed at, and reverse-engineering it would have given England’s enemies a FORMIDABLE weapon to use.
Note that the actual mechanics of the damn thing are kept separate, in a safe with two key locks: the same level of security you’d find nowadays on the go-to-war safe of an ICBM silo.
Have any of these locations reached out to you yet? This is great material for a virtual tour, a museum could really use this to take people back in time to when everything was working.
The music had a nice Bladerunner/Steampunk feel to it, interesting choice. Nice!
Your work is exemplary as always. :-)
As always great work!
That music is just waaaay too creepy
Its supposed to. As somebody said earlier, this was in the 1880's what an ICBM launch complex would be today. Average day Victorian-era citizen with no ties to the British military wasn't meant to or supposed to see things like this.
@@Patriot1776 its Just mindblowing that humans keep making bigger and better weapons along time
I like it
Would love to see an animation of how it worked!

last time I was this early, torpedoes were men in barels
Yes, they were also rowing towards the ship to damage them with a trusty lumber axe
so , i wanna express my respect to the author for the work done in creating such a large number of models and mechanisms
Brilliant as always. Soundtrack was spooky and fit very well.
It was kinda futuristic too
amazing work
Excellent research work, and excellent graphics! Thanks for your efforts!
Glad you like them!
Yum-yum, excellent! The most intriguing historic warfare object of the past, with such thrilling mood!
Will there come the action movie soon?
I like the "oops" brick texture on one of the wall pipes...
Naturally, the best place to put the Torpedo Room is right beside the Boiler Room.
Also, if Half-Life was Victorian:
if your torpedos are steam powered it makes perfect sense
Fantastic. A station like this was built on the coast somewhere near Dartford, UK, if I recall correctly, have been there.
Nick: There were 2 Brennan forts on the Thames - 1 at Cliffe (opposite Tilbury) and the other at Garrison Point Fort at the mouth of the Medway. Garrison Point was the main testing and training location. Sadly, little is left of these two installations. Rob
@@vbbsmyt yes they sound familiar, must've been one of those. It was in ruins and seemed strange to me. Possibly ravaged to salvage metal either officially in WW2 or unofficially...i.e.. stolen!
fixed torpedo mount
stupendous idea
As always, just super. Please make a video about the Italian submachine gun O.V.P. device!
Nice work 👍
Wow!! What an interesting bit of engineering craziness. I am a mechanical engineer and so I understand all of how it works. What I have difficulty understanding is how all this was paid for. Im guessing it was never used in war. If I ever can afford a trip across the Atlantic this alone would be worth the trip.
Oldtrkdrvr: There is very little left of the Brennan stations. All the equipment has long been dismantled, and the sites are inaccessible.
As for why and who paid for it. The British Government. In the 1880’s to protect naval ports against an invading force, the entrances were protected by controlled minefields, but these were time consuming to lay, and subject to the deterioration of the cabling and mines themselves. The Brennan torpedo stations provided an alternative - always available, and with the ability to steer a large warhead onto selected targets. Louis Brennan received a very large sum from the British Government to develop the torpedo and then to manufacture the torpedoes, maintain them and train the operators.
lmao i just had a dream about brennan torpedoes last night
I love these vids
Una animación muy buena como siempre.Un saludo.
We have the typical super genius dislikes who are sure to do these jobs better than vbbsmyt, but we will never see such genius posted on you tube.
Interesting system. Do You have plans to do the Breda M30 light machine gun?
your video very cool !
Nice
SUPER gud!👍
Five thums up!
What was inside the locked chest?
The highly secret Depth mechanism, which controlled the torpedo depth during he run. No-one to this day knows how it worked. You can see how the torpedo worked in my other animation:

@@vbbsmyt I watched most of your video's. Thank you for the amazing content.
The most steampunk place I've ever see.
Good Deep One music.
Reminds me of fmv adventure point and click games 😄
Excellent......but is it sure that the doors inside the fort are wooden with glass fillings? Steel would be more appropriate !
What could possibly damage the Brennan installation?. It is buried deep in a hill, so there was no weapon that existed in the 1890’s that could be delivered to cause blast damage . Aeroplanes had not been invented. Warships did not have fire control or gyro compasses and rangefinders were of very limited accuracy, so hitting a small opening from a moving ship would be almost impossible even when within the range of the torpedo.
Could you do a video about the g11
Music doesn't match. Cleanest non-threatening facility I've ever seen.
I'd work there.👍
What's the title soundtrack this animation
Can you make, a how mauser c96 work animation
Ever thought of designing FPS computer games? cool animation.
Ah yes keep the fireboxes and coal RIGHT BEHIND the massive explosives
С кирпичной кладкой в арках чувак накосячил
The Shining?
So, steampunk is real?
Jeez dude..
The music is a little too much don't you think?
It's like you're guiding us through a haunted doomsday bunker or something...
Anyway! Nice video..
It was more fun whit the music
Interesno, moy angliyskiy very bad.
гы-гы-гы )))
Russia?
Why. Horrors. Music?
