Honestly I have never seen your reaction videos but when I noticed you reacted to Jackie Evancho I was an immediate Subscriber. No one has or ever will be Jackie Evancho
I've been thinking about why her singing moves me so much. I think it's because she doesn't just perform the music, she inhabits it. Or it inhabits her. Not sure which. Maybe both.
Jackie had often said in her young career, "I'm possessed by the music"......She said recently that she is always nervous before a performance but the nervousness vanishes immediately when she begins to sing, and she feels "on top of the world", nothing else exists but her and the music....."that's why I know this is what I'm meant to do", she said. She had also said that she is most comfortable on stage, "It's my home". I believe that is indicative of a prodigy such as Jackie, a natural performer.
I’ve seen Jackie 4 times in concert- always amazing. The piano player with her is 17years old!!! When she came out on stage once she actually had a glow around her. The entire audience made an audible gasp when they saw her!!!
Oh, yeah! That was THE DRESS! It probably weighed as much as she did with all the sequins. There are very few good pictures of it since it reflected so much light it overexposed every picture. At one performance, she got a standing ovation just walking out on stage in it!
So glad you've found Jackie, I watched this concert many times some 12 years ago. Jackie was the first wave of the child prodigies we see so much of today. Her Houston concert is off the charts, 32 minutes straight, no brakes, no mistakes.....
Good points. Prior to Jackie, I listened for arrangements, lyrics and musicianship, but not too many singers. Some better than others, but all singers fell short of my serious interest. They just weren't good enough. She was 'discovered' [sort of] by Foster at age 9, and passed over by AGT twice in live tryouts. Finally AGT tried on-line tryouts to smoke out talent. AGT would pick 39 candidates out of the many on-liners, but the fan voting picked the top winner. Jackie won top place and a large number of her votes came from Haley Westenra's fan club. Otherwise, AGT could have passed her over a third time, and THAT might have ended her dream and our enjoyment. So we found her just by the skin of our teeth. I say 'we'. Her voice is that good. To lose out on hearing that voice would be a major loss. No kidding. PS: Her voice is not 'operatic' it is different. It is Classical Crossover. Her voice lacks the complexity and the modest but controlled amount of dissonance [squillo if trained] for opera. Her voice sports only a FEW audible overtones, and all seem to be in perfect major chord harmony, unlike most of the rest of the world. Midway through AGT's fifth year's program, up she pops and her/our journey begins. Also the dreams of a number of 'child-prodigies' who might never have tried out without her success story. Her popularity on AGT taught Cowell where a rich market spot was as well. He started promoting 'young opera singers' heavily, trying to hit gold again. Finally, I consider the Houston concert to have been 'beyond belief'. I have watched it many times, feeling sorry for myself each time that I missed attending. The electricity generated in that church by that performance was incredible. I'm at least glad to have seen it on YTube. WOW!
@@jordannash1998 Very true about Westenra's fan club putting her over the top. I forget the vote totals that were published by AGT at one time, but she got in by only about a hundred votes over the next contestant. I did manage to attend that Houston concert, and by sheer luck, got "front row center" seats, and the Meet & Greet. You can see the back of my bald head pop up several times in the videos. As I've said before, it was like seeing Hendrix' debut at Monterey. The M&G was pretty informal, with Jackie, her Mom, and Uncle mingling among the snack tables. To top it off, the following day as we waited in the hotel lobby for our airport shuttle, the Evanchos popped out of the elevator, with Jackie in the lead, right in front of us. The music of Broken Vow was co-composed by Walter Afanassiev and Lara Fabian, inspired by a classic piece of Rachmaninoff (Piano Concerto N°2 in C Minor). Walter Afanassiev, an american/brazilian from russian descent, is a legendary composer and producer (he composed some of the greatest initial hits of Mariah Carey such as All I Want for Christmas is You and was the producer of the Titanic soundtrack that brought Celine Dion to WW fame). He is also now the producer of Dimash for his US career. When this song was composed, Walter and Lara were engaged, but apparently he cheated and she decided to break up. When she took this decision, that she knew would dramatically change both her personal and professional destiny, she wrote these incredible lyrics. Lara has said this is her preferred english song from all the songs she wrote in this language (there are many, and some are pure jewels).
