this is a different scenario than with cersei and her bastards, rhaenyra is the heir so it virtually shouldn’t matter that they’re bastards because the claim to the throne comes from her, and especially when laenor and the king recognize them as velaryons
No, so this becomes a problem later on in history, but technically, she would have to name the boys as her legitimate children like Aegon the unworthy did. However, it would confirm that she cheated on Leanor and it dishonors her. (Because she is a woman)

That’s not how it works. Every child born out of wedlock is a bastard with no rights. Their mother is never questioned - everyone knows Rhaenyra birthed the boys - yet they still get called bastards because people know the father isn’t her husband. Adoption isn’t a thing in Westeros, simply by pretending the children are legit does not make the problem vanish. The King has to aknowledge them being bastards then formally legitimize them.
The irony is Rhaenyra could have married Harwin if she hadn't messed around with Daemon. As heir to Harenhall he was a fit consort for the future queen.
I love the little bits that Harwin was always there. When she was in flea bottom with Daemon, she ran into him and he recognized her. He saved her at the wedding.
You forget that Viserys ultimately forced the marriage between Laenor and Rhaenyra to say ''we are cool right?'' to Corlys after refusing to marry Laena.

I feel for Alicent but i still side with Rhaenyra because her sons are actually related to her father still. They're still his blood. They might not have Velaryon blood but that doesn't really matter all that much when they have the same blood as the King and Rhaenyra is set to be his heir. With Robert Baratheon it was a way worse situation cuz Joffrey and his siblings had no relation to him at all lol.

You made a comment about Rhaenyra's children not being full Targaryens, well neither are Alicent's.

That’s like saying Robb isn’t a full stark because he has a Tully mother.
Legitimate children of male Targaryens are there definition of full Targaryens.
It could be inferred that Viserys does know Rhaenyras kids are not Laenors but he refuses to publicly acknowledge it because then he would be expected to act on it and he obviously doesnt want to harm his daughter and his grandkids. Also they are just as Targaryen as Alicents kids. Since Laenor publicly acknowledges those kids as his, it doesnt matter what others think, they are protected. Viserys’ safest option for him was to also back up their legitimacy the same way Laenor has. If Laenor didnt recognize them as his then obviously they wouldnt be safe and it would force Viserys hand. With Laenor and Viserys backing them up plus the fact they all have dragons and are able to bond with dragons, gives them legitimacy.

People believing in it or questioning and acting on it is what gives legitimacy in a medieval society!
That’s why there was always struggle when the succession wasn‘t a 100% well ordered by the previous king/lord cause you have always tradition being confronted by interests and claims and supporters of both sides, but no absolute codified law

(the fourth son of a fourth son… a very unlikely king) 🤷🏻♂️

Viserys isn't a fool. He knows the truth, which is why he told Alicent to never speak of it again. "The consequences of an allegation, like the one you toy at, would be dire." Or we can go back to, "The truth doesn't matter; only perception." We all have to tow the party line, because the alternative could be anywhere from destabilizing to life-threatening.
He is a fool. He should have either married Rhaenrya and Aegon or called a great council. Any other decision would inevitably lead to civil war.
As he said himself, Jahaerys would have disinherited Rhaenrya for her transgressions.

I know those kids are painfully not Laenor’s but it is possible they could be because Laenor is 1/2 white so those kids are 3/4 white and their “grandma” Princess Rhaenys is part Baratheon who are famously black of hair. And in the books she has black hair too so it is possible for those kids to inherit their Baratheon black hair lol it’s all rumors free my girl Rhae Rhae lol
and don't forget that Rhaenyra has some Arryn in her too from her mother who was 1/2 Arryn and 1/2 Targaryen

In the books it wasn't that obvious that those kids are bastards, because valaryns were white people not black people with white hair, and Princess Rhaenece had black hair with some white parts in it, so it was totally possible for rhaynera's children to come out as white boys with black hair, And ser Harwin breakbones was her sworn shield not the commander of the city watch, so it was a normal thing for him to always be by her side.

My mother is black and my step father is white yet my brother is white, it seems the only mistake was making rhaenarys hair fully white. 🤷🏾♂️

They’re only bastards if they’re not claimed but those kids are claimed by the king himself and velaryons. Also they’re heir through their mother. Not to mention they’re as much targs as alicents kids if not they have more of a strong dragon-blood connection since all of their dragon eggs hatched and none of alicents kids have a dragon through a newly hatched egg. The whole reason the greens bring up the bastard plot is for propaganda and discredit rhaenyras claim to the throne.
If your parents aren't married when you are born, you're a bastard. The Strong boys are bastards, just like Joffrey Baratheon was a bastard.
Also eggs hatching is completely random. That's why one of Daemon's daughters has a dragon and the other doesn't.
Are Daemon, Viserys, Rhaenys, and Laena less Targaryen? None of them bonded with newly hatched eggs.

I loved how Lady Leana as a child of 12, when walking with Viserys talked about Vhagar and how she was last seen nesting somewhere along The Narrow Sea.. And that she was able to claim (Vhagar) at age 15. The backstory of the Dragon Eggs and claiming a dragon is interesting... more please!!

They are still from rhaenera which is the heir and her child will still be the king one day! And that will prevent a war because they won't harm the prince's wife and if she gets pregnant she will be the mother of the heir so uniting both houses! But Alicent WANTED AEGON AS KING INSTEAD OF RHAENERA which obviously causing chaos!
A bastard would not have a right to the throne
It matters for the same reason Cat hated Jon. Bastards are a threat to legitimate children and hated in Westeros. Aegon IV legitimized his bastards and it led to over a century of Civil war.

Further in what way are Alicent's children psycho? Maybe Jace and Luke shouldn't have bullied Aemond. Further, they aren't just Alicent's kids. Viserys is just as responsible for how they turned out. Perhaps he should have spent time being a father to them.

The genetic is just BS in this show. Alicent (brown hair) with Viserys(white hair) has only white hair kids, but Rhaenyra (white hair) with Harwin (dark hair) can only have dark hair kids. That's not how genetics work!
Well yeah, it’s a show with magic and dragons. Daemon’s daughters are also supposed to be mixed but they are black, and the targaryens and velaryons have been marrying each other for generations yet all targaryens are white and velaryons are black.
