THIS VIDEO is quite timely, because APRIL is Organ Donation Awareness Month!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It’s April 30, 2024, so you got it in just under the wire!
My 39-year-old son donated his organs after having a drug induced asthma attack on Christmas morning 2023, and after days of neurologist, checking for brain activity, we were told on the Friday after Christmas Monday that his brain was no longer active. so my son was able to give his strong heart which was a perfect match for someone in their 30s and my son was 39 himself. When Jeff in this video, talks about all the testing they do before hand to be sure his kidney would be a perfect match for the person he gave it to all those tests. My son did while intubated in the hospital. Once they determined his brain was no longer active. And the blood!!🩸 ooh my goodness! They do a lot of bloodwork. Had an ultrasound of his heart to check the size and he also had either an MRI a CT or both I can’t remember now
If anyone’s interested in signing up to donate your organs after you’ve gone and don’t need them anymore, I’ll try to put the link. 🔗
      For ANY STATE:
      registerme.org/
ORGANS! Why take them with you? Heaven doesn’t need them!

What a great story, thanks for sharing! I have a cool kidney story to tell. A team at my job met weekly to make sandwiches that were served as part of the meal for the homeless. Besides the meal, we also helped the homeless get photo ID. Marlene was the heart of the project, always looking for ways to get supplies and more hands to help. Over the years we had made over 140,000 sandwiches. Marlene had given her husband a kidney years ago but now he needed a new one. The call came and he went in for the transplant. They didn't know who the donor was but someone let it slip that the donor was a homeless man. He had elected to be a donor on his photo ID. And where do the homeless get photo ID? The same place where they get the sandwiches Marlene and I made and served every week. So in all likelihood, the kidney that's keeping Marlene's husband alive belonged to a guy who was nourished by one of her sandwiches. ❤❤❤

    Brian, I am 65, had a kidney removed when I was 5.
Back then doctors were 'no contact sports, no heavy activity, antibiotics forever, yada yada yada'
I just retired from 43 years truck driving, mostly heavy construction. Rock cimbed, rode horses, skiing, etc.
One kidney has made absolutely no difference in my life.
Don't drink, don't smoke, stay hydrated, just live & love your usual life.
Best wishes for a quick recovery.
    Jeff, stay well.
Quick edit - Kidneys have always been removed from the front. The muscles & nerves on the flank don't take happily to being cut.
My scar is from my sternum to my pubic bone. A bit drastic.

Blood always needed and you never know when it is yourself or a loved one that will need Blood or Blood Products.

Another fellow uni-kidney person here! The body is an amazing thing. When I was 1yo (1983) it was found I was born without an IVC (Inferior Vena Cava). My right kidney was affected. They tried to do an auto transplant (move kidney to hook up to better working arteries), but it was unsuccessful. So they removed it! My left kidney now does the work for both. It’s twice the size now and doing me well! Cheers and well wished for a smooth recovery!

Listening to Jeff was like de-ja vu. I am a kidney donor and living with one kidney for 28 years. I was not as fortunate in those days to have the surgery done laparoscopically so I have a huge scar around my waist. Recovery was long and painful but was back at work in six weeks. The other reason they take the left kidney when possible is because the left kidney has a longer artery which they need for the 'hookup' into the recipient. Be careful with over the counter medications and regarding diet, monitor your potassium intake and anything that is filtered by the kidney. The reality is you now have one kidney doing the job of two. These are things they dont tell you but I was fortunate to have a social worker who advised me of what I should be conscious of.

I have kidney disease so find this conversation interesting. I have raised my kidney numbers by being whole food plant based including following a Facebook group Natural Kidney Journey. The protocol includes eating plant based but tweaked to be as healthy as possible for kidneys. The originator has one kidney herself and also helped her husband to get off of dialysis. Good luck to all of you...and prayers for continued health.

My Son had a liver transplant 6 years ago and how happy we all were but sad for the family that lost their Son to receive the liver. My Son got sepsis and didn’t make it. I have to give Jeff credit for giving his gift of one of his kidneys so someone doesn’t have to be on dialysis anymore which is a hard think to have to do all the time. That is a wonderful thing to do. We hope all goes well with your biopsy and possible surgery Brian.
