Subsidizing energy at a time we have to cut programs for the poor is immoral. Newer, cleaner, safer Nuclear power should be embraced, the cost savings are too important to overlook. A 5% increase on the wealthy for infrastructure jobs, including upgrades and improvements on bridges, roads, nuclear power plants. The wealthy job creators didn't create any jobs with the extended tax breaks they were given over a year ago, it's time for the government to intercede.
wow amazes me how he is not understanding how you can provide millions of homes with affordable electricity with 0 co2. I guess everyone has money to spend $30,000 on solar panels in their garden after all.
Thank you, Senator Bernie Sanders for this hearing and your statements. The NRC has been captured by the industry it is supposed to regulate, and some Obama appointees have been representatives of the nuclear power industry, and industry that provides him with substantial campaign contributions. I was stunned when his speeches since Fukushima have endorsed increased reliance on nuclear power.
@40AbbyNormal Absolutely we are! Have you seen any of the Project Camelot interviews on UA-cam. I especially recommend this one, Project Camelot interviews Ralph Ring. There is also one of Brian O'Leary. We could all have free energy right now.
I can't imagine why nobody's figured out a way to make nuclear energy a free-market enterprise... seems like mostly I hear a lot of NIMBYism: Chernobyl, Fukushima...
Sorry but the future of nuclear energy is soley defined by how long the censorship can obfuscate the severe consequences a nuclear disaster has. The curtain of silence around Belarussia has a reason. The real world consequences could be clearly seen if a scientific inquiry would take place. This would not only demolish the flawed Hiroshima model of radiation exposure but also bear prof of the grave dangers inherent in nuclear technology.
I believe a moratorium on older reactor designs is warranted but there are new generations of this technology available to us as a result of all the money the U.S. has invested into this technology over the years. New fourth generation reactor designs are much safer, thorium reactor designs for example do not have a risk of radioactive meltdown. By developing these new reactor designs its a win-win because we are able to address climate change in a safe way and make use of our investment in nuclear power. So lets make a distinction first between older more risky designs and newer mitigated risk designs.
As for Senator Sanders, how do you feel sleep at night knowing that just for your first term you will recieve more money in a pension of a congressmen than the military servicemen that you want to cut funding for. how many of your supporters realize that they wont nearly make as much as you, but all you say you want is to spread the wealth. well mr. sanders where the hell is my money or the peoples money. here is an idea no more congress pentions
+kevin blanch He doesn't want the pro nuke shills all over everything he says right now. Her is attacking the problem at the root by taking money out of politics and he is doing pretty well against Hillary. First things first , get him in position to go up against the nuke industry on more even ground. He would be a fool to attract the shills to his presidential run right now.
@ReliableInsider There is only one reason not to abolish the nuclear technology alltogether. It is also the sollution for the nuclear waste we have allready produced. Yet this would not only be costly but should also not be economized in any way. Scientist have created this and a breeder reactor monitored by scientists is the only solution for the otherwise deadly waste. And it´s deadly for eterity.
Once again, Senator Sanders droppin' knowledge and making PERFECT sense! Why this dude isn't president never ceases to amaze me lol Check out my song about the 2008 financial collapse here: /watch?v=fMP7UOP-qA8 Many thanks!
Having grown up about 60 ft. outside the 5 mile zone of VT Yankee ... thank you, sir. Thank you. Can't wait to see you take on FERC about brand new exploding pipelines when you become president.

@salmonslug What about thorium reactors? Fusion research?
@salmonslug What about Thorium?
I would have liked to hear the answer from the NRC

+Fresh Haus A money pit for sure..What do we do with the waste?Nuclear energy,to me,has never paid for itself.
Around 35% on average and 1/4 at peak load; but, "When do we get it off the government dole.... Is sixty years enough...?"
I love Bernie Sanders!
He's like Vermonts grandpa looking out for all his grand children by addressing the politicians.
Was this before or after he dumped radioactive waste on a town of non-English speaking, poor immigrants?

Nuke plants are killing us softly:/
+Dunkilo Stonk Nuclear plants don't kill you any faster than background radiation from the ground and the universe does.
