You misunderstood the comedian when you were trying to explain the observational humor!!!! It is nothing funny about how we Chinese measure water for rice cooking, the funny part is that he was gesturing a penis with his finger while explaining the measuring method, especially the 'head' part. It's a middle finger joke/a dirty joke! Like you said, you have to know their culture, and it is a very common joke(not the Chinese measuring part, but the middle finger part).

You can say 'do the dishes' or 'wash the dishes'. Dishes would normally include everything like plates, cups, spoons, saucepans....,etc. Therefore, it doesn't sound too right if you say ' go wash the plates'. Moreover, in spoken English, it is acceptable to say ' go do the dishes', but more correctly would be go and do the dishes, go and wash the dishes, go and do your homework..... Hope this helps.

第一点自嘲，本来会幽默的人会用，本来不幽默的人知道怎么用了也不太会用的。自嘲是最简单的幽默，但很多不幽默的人会把自嘲看成自贱（而且这个看法很难改变），这样自嘲在逻辑上就是不合理的。除非必须违心地自嘲（例如面对比自己高阶的人，又有求于对方），否则他们是不会喜欢这种幽默方式的。
