Cost of production is very high. A farmer will definitely incurred losses if he/she will rely on commercial feed to run a poultry farm. To all farmers and intending farmers. Don't be discouraged. Find a way to cut down on your cost of production and maximising the sale price for the eggs and that can earn you a profit. For instance, consider value addition of the eggs to increase the selling price. But before proceeding, please do some proper market research to determine selling prices and the actual cost of production before spending your hard-earned money in the name of investing in layers chicken.

    • @Homerangepoultry
      @Homerangepoultry  Рік тому +1

Eggs in Kenya are majority imported from Uganda. The few that are produced locally come from DIFFERENT farmers. Each day, a new uninformed farmer is jumping into keeping the layers because they know there is demand. Yes demand is there because this is food, but no farmer makes money. This is why you find no company in Kenya has established itself as an egg producing company despite there being demand. It's unfortunate that we have built a system where new farmers are hooked into losses and once they do, they exit, and a new farmer comes in and suffers the same. Unless if it's money laundering, no exclusive layers farmer exists in Kenya or has been doing it for years and years. Most do only 1 or 2 batches and they suffer losses and close. It's a very sad state of affairs.

Hello Clement. The video has outlined the situation in Kenya. We are not familiar with the status of layers farming in Ghana but of importance is that farmers make informed choices that will ensure they are not running into losses. @@Homerangepoultry If I have 10,000 layer chickens and 8,000 of them lay eggs every day, resulting in 8000 eggs daily or 266 crates daily, and I sell each crate for Sh400, this totals Sh104,400 per day, Sh3,192,000 per month, and Sh38,304,000 per year. Please explain how you make a loss.

    • @Homerangepoultry
      @Homerangepoultry  Рік тому +7

@@AliAli-o7f8j Very good question. We will now illustrate how you will make a LOSS of Kshs. 11, 263,306 from your 10,000 layers giving you 8,000 eggs per day.
      PART 1: ANALYSIS OF EXPENSES
      A) Cost of Chicks:
The cost of purchasing chicks is
      10,000 x Kshs. 130 per chick = Kshs. 1,300,000/-
      B) What is the Cost of rearing your 10,000 layers from Day old chick to 4.5 Months when they start laying eggs:
      =(((15+160)/2)/1000) Kgs/day X 30 days X 4.5 Months x 10,000 Layers
Total = 118,125 kgs of feed is consumed from Day 1 - 4.5 Months by your 10,000 layers.
      Cost of this feed = 118,125 Kgs x Kshs. 71 / Kg = Kshs. 8,386,875
TOTAL COST OF FEED CONSUMED (Day 1 - 4.5 Months) = Kshs. 8,386,875/-
      C) Cost of Vaccines, Antibiotics & Multivitamins from Day 1 - 4.5 Months (Miscellaneous Cost):
      This will be 15% of Cost of Feeding = (15/100) x 8,386,875
Thus, MISCELLANEOUS COST TOTAL is Kshs. 1,258,031/-
      Thus,
TOTAL COST OF PRODUCTION FROM DAY 1 - 4.5 MONTHS is:
Cost of Chicks - Kshs. 1,300,000
      Feeding - Kshs. 8,386,875
      Miscellaneous - Kshs. 1,258,031
      TOTAL COST - Kshs. 10,944,906
      D) Cost of Production From 4.5 Months onwards for 12 More months of egg production:
      i) Feeding Cost (4.5 Months to 16.5 Months):
      =(160/1000) Kgs / day x 30 Days x 10,000 Layers x 12 Months = 576,000 Kg of Feed
      Cost of this feed is:
= 576,000 kgs X Kshs. 66/Kg (Cost of Layers mash)
      = Kshs. 38,016,000
ii) Miscellaneous Cost (Vaccines, Antibiotics, Multivitamins) for production duration of 4.5 Months to 16.5 Months:
      = 15% X 38,016,000
Total miscellaneous Cost = Kshs. 5,702,400
GRAND TOTAL COST OF PRODUCTION FOR THE ENTIRE LIFE CYCLE OF THE 10,000 LAYERS (FROM DAY 1 - 16.5 MONTHS) is thus the costs of A+B+C+D above, thus
      KSHS. 54,663,306
      PART 2: ANALYSIS OF INCOME
What is the total income that will be realized with this flock of 10,000 layers:
      A) Sale of Eggs:
      8,000 eggs / day X 30 days X 12 Months = 2,880,000 eggs
      = 2,880,000 / 30 eggs = 96,000 Trays of eggs
Sale of the eggs = 96,000 trays X Kshs. 400 per tray
TOTAL INCOME FROM SALE OF EGGS = Kshs. 38,400,000/-
      B) Sale of Ex-layers:
      10,000 exlayers X Kshs. 500 per chicken
      = Kshs. 5,000,000
      thus
      GRAND TOTAL INCOME is A+B
      = Kshs. 38,400,000 + Kshs, 5,000,000 = KSHS. 43,400,000
THUS, to determine if you made a PROFIT or A LOSS, simply subtract your expenses from your income
      = Income - Expenses
      = Kshs. 43,400,000 - Kshs. 54,663,306
      = -Kshs. 11,263,306/- (LOSS)
From keeping your 10,000 layers and having 8,000 layers laying daily and then selling each tray of eggs for Kshs. 400, you will realize a healthy LOSS OF KSHS. 11,263,306.
      😎 Any other question sir?
