They sang this live on the anniversary of their win at Italy's San Remo music festival. It was so emotional, that D was in tears at the end, overwhelmed by the occasion and the sad story of the girl the band knew. There is the full video on VEVO to watch privately, but not to publish. It’s worth watching. IMHO one of the best live performances ever.

The "Castle with strong walls" at the end is the Verano cemetery in Rome, their native city. When you know this, the ending acquires a new meaning.
"They told her there's a castle in town with such strong walls that if you go live in there nothing will ever hurt you again" -> "The people told her: 'go and die'". The castle is a tomb and nothing can hurt you once died.

Yes, it is about abuse. The castle in Rome at the end is a cemetery. They won Eurovision with Zitti e Buoni, which basically means Shut up and be good. Great reaction! Your latest attempt to pronounce MAneskin is more than acceptable, it's how we Italians say it and the band is fine with it. But the word is Danish (Victoria's mother, the bassist, was Danish) and the exact pronunciation would be moh-neskin, meaning "moonlight"). Yes, it is certainly the story of abuse, but also of unresolved psychological problems, which become more and more serious, in a vicious circle that the "brave knight" tries in vain to break ("she is afraid of the sea, but perhaps the sea it's inside her". Thomas' solo is wonderful, becoming the voice, the cry of Coraline.

@@pupalupa667In my opinion he said it to mislead the true identity of the dead girl who otherwise would have been too recognizable, and it would have been like denouncing her father. I knew that she was a friend of Damiano and therefore they disguised the girl's identity. And it seems that the girl is dead and buried in the Verano cemetery in Rome also called the "Castle".

I think the most beautiful thing about this song is this sort of "fairy tale" metaphor, with an opening, an ending, and a whole story arc... the most beautiful thing is that the Italian lyrics also invoke this fairy tale-style metaphor, using expressions like Coraline being described as a beauty in peril and him being the knight who wants to save her, and eventually the castle... it's not just a beautiful song, it's a poem and also very relatable, I just love it ❤
The girl is part danish. Måneskin meens moonshine in danish. The letter å sounds kinda like the letter o.

yeah, Beggin's just a cover they did when they were literally teenagers. 16 to 18 years old, which somehow went viral after they won Eurovision.

Yes, you're right. This song is about the worst form of abuse. Coraline suffers so much that, in spite of the love and offer of help from a boy, she eventually chooses to put an end to her life. Graveyards in Italy are surrounded by tall, strong walls.

Actually Maneskin is Danish and means moonshine. The a with that circle on top (I don't have it on my Bavarian keys...) is a thing between a and o, so the proper Danish pronunciation would be "Moneskin" rather, but most Italians pronounce it with a very open a: Mahneskin...
