The Egyptian priesthood worked for the benefit of the entire community, warding off pestilence and wild animals while defending against Egypt's enemies utilizing magical rituals. There were strict requirements to join the priesthood both in hygiene, health and personal behavior. One took oaths to uphold the rules and regulations of the cult. Priests were sworn to secrecy regarding the inner workings of the cult and it s rituals . As a result, only small scraps of information come down to us today.
