I like the way that you set up how the literature review is supposed to look. What I appreciate most is that you broke it down in an easy to understand way. By starting off with your topic and then breaking down the topic with supporting detail to make sure it makes sense to the reader.
This video helped me understand what is needed in a literature review. A literature review is basically a compounded summary of multiple journals related to your research topic. This video provided a great explanation.
This video is a great tool to utilize while designing a research proposal. I found it easy to follow and enjoyed the step by step instruction regarding the structure and organization involved in writing a literature review.
I will definitely be coming back to watch this video to help write my own literature review. It also reinforces what I have been reading in regards to writing a research paper.
I watched this video as I formatted my paper and it was really helpful. I didn't realize that different journals have the freedom to change things around, so using those as as equal might not be the best thing to do. To have this laid is was informative and a good step-by-step.
I am presently writing a literature review, and this video is a great refresher. Dr. Grande offered very helpful tips for organizing the manuscript. I was particularly impressed with the "funnel" design and I am now able to structure my paper in a easier and more professional manner.
This video definitely clarified my questions on how to write a literature review. It also made me realize aspects of a literature review that I had not previously realized, such as where is the gap in the research where your research question could fit.
I found this video extremely helpful. I took notes in class when Dr Grande spoke about our paper and these tips added alot more information. I liked how he displayed the lit review organization/hierarchy slide.
This video was most helpful in describing how to organize a lit review. Starting off a lit review is most important to help guide a smooth flow throughout.
I like that the video starts out by explaining what the literature review is even there for. I have written more than one literature review and was not always clear on why it was necessary but this video really lists exactly why literature reviews need to be done. If you follow what the literature review is supposed to do and you are hitting all of those points then your literature review is on the right path. I also liked that it was clearly stated how the literature review should be organized. Watching this video made literature reviews seem less intimidating.
I appreciate this video. It has helped me refocus my outline for writing my lit review. Also the tips given relating to writing the lit review is helpful to know before I write so I do not have back track as much. When you discussed the references needed, it made me realize that I need to go back and find a balance.
Awesome video with depth of instructions and outline of what is expected in a Lit Review. So glad this video was included my notes were very long about organization and citing references.
This video was a very helpful walk-through as I was generating my literature review. I especially like Dr.Grande's answer to, "how many articles should you have?" It's not the generic, "as many as needed." He takes into account you cannot just keep writing on and on and have tons of information because in the real world there are page limits. You need enough but not more than is going to weigh your manuscript down.
Alicia Zahn I liked that too. We always are trained to think "more is better" but really, good quality articles with the best information extracted is the best way to go here.
I looked to this video for information and tips on how to write an effective literature review. I found your explanation helpful and thorough and i feel it has helped me better organize my own literature review. thank you, Dr. Grande.
This was very helpful in organizing the literature review we are doing for class. I wasn't sure what content was needed or what should be in a literature review and this was a good summary of what needs to be included.
I found this video very helpful, I was struggling to fully understand how to begin my study and how I was going to make all the information flow and make sense but this video explained everything in detail and an easy to understand way. Very helpful Dr. Grande.
I found this to be the most helpful video for me thus far. I appreciated the way he thoroughly explained exactly what is needed to write our literature review. Understanding that this portion of the research proposal is not simply to share relevant research, but to look for gaps within related research that will justify our need/want to further explore the topic. I have a better understanding of how to write my literature review.
Melissa, I agree. This video clarified a lot of what is expected in a literature review. The organization slide was particularly helpful. It will serve as an accurate guide when we begin writing our proposals.
I loved the organizational chart that Dr. Grande included for writing a literature review, and I agree that the funnel approach is very easy to follow. I like that the funnel theory, or broad to narrow approach, also includes elements of the chronological and thematic approach. I think being organized when writing a literature review is essential in order to be successful in writing a great paper. It is important to include all of the necessary details into your paper, and this video helps you to remember what you need to include. I feel more confident with writing a literature review.
The information in this video helped me to get a much clearer understanding of the literature review. I especially liked the visual example on how the review should be organized. I thought the video was very clear and easy to understand.
Reviewing this video helped refine the content and structure of a thorough literature review. It is made clear that information must be referenced to the original source if the information is included from an author's literature review. In addition, the explanation of how many references are appropriate made it clear that too few would most likely be a problem.
This video is a great tool for writing a literature review. Making sure to validate statements with multiple sources is important so that the review is strong and empirical. Also, no opinion all facts!
Interesting video, especially the way that justifying the need for the research means both looking for gaps in past research, as well as the need to balance references that will not only support, but go against the need for the study.
This video was extremely helpful. I appreciate the step-by- step way to organize the review. I think this video answered a lot of questions I had about writing the review. Moreover the information presented was clear and straight to the point. Overall great video.
I agree that this video was very thorough and helpful for outlining a literature review. I especially liked the visual organizational chart provided with an example topic. I also have saved this video to watch again later.
The literature review is actually one of my favorite pieces of research. If you are conducting a study or drafting a proposal on something that interests you, you may find that you have already run across many valuable articles or sources related to the topic. It is always interesting to piece them together and compare them to each other. You end up finding that there may be many gaps in the existing literature that wasn't otherwise discovered.
I agree with you Cheryl! Even if I was a bit intimidating by the literature review, one I started to work on it, it became really interesting and helped me to gather much information. I have even got great articles by checking some of the articles references that helped me broaden my research
I am glad I came across this video, I wasn't sure exactly what was suppose to be in the literature review. This gives me a better understanding on how to organize the literature review.
Although I have some undergraduate experience in how to write a literature review, I found this video as a helpful refresher in how to organize my ideas when preparing to do a new literature review as it is always an overwhelming process.
This was very helpful for my literature review. I learned that in the discussion section I need to link back to my research question. The overview of organization gives me a road map to follow for my literature review.
I liked the example he gave as it gave me an even better idea of what my litearture review needs to look like in that, I could see it in the example. I like the roadmap that this video gives us.
Bethany Elstrom I agree... Dr. Grande stressed from the beginning how well our proposals need to be organized and this demonstration is certainly helpful.
This video is very helpful explaining the Literature Review process. I feel like I have a better grasp on the concept of how to pick and choose my references
I literally watched this video as I was formatting and writing my paper for research methods. It was so helpful and informative!!! I think I gained the most insight from this video and it was the most practical of all of the videos I have watched for this course. It answered a lot of questions for me that I normally would have emailed the professor about or brought up in class. I have some experience with literature reviews, but it has been some time, so I highly recommend this one for anyone working on their own literature review.
Jessica Muzzin I also watched this as I wrote, but I think I've told you that a million times! I cannot stress how helpful the whole APA section was in writing this paper and, like you, I've had experience writing a "research article" but it's been a long time. Memory has faded and rules have changed so these videos are valuable for the writing process.
I found this video to be extremely helpful in describing what is needed for a lit review. I could visualize my paper and how I was going t organize it as I was watching. I may come back and review this a few times when I am actually writting it.
This video was extremely helpful when structuring my literature review. I particularly appreciated the broad-to-narrow, chronological, and thematic slide that explains common structures for lit reviews. The questions on that slide helped guide me as I wrote my lit review.
This video was helpful by discussing that the literature review can be done in reverse and do the treatment and it's importance then talk about the disorders that the treatment was designed to address.
Throughout my experiences with psychology, I feel that most educators I have learned from worked under the impression that most people will not go on to do research and therefore, have gone over specifics, like the literature review, very briefly. Many that I have done in the past, were based off little information and not corrected to help my learn the right way to do this. The powerpoint organizes the information in an effective way and helps to put words into a picture of the importance of this part of a article and what it should look like.
This video was excellent and really clarified the literature review portion of the research design paper, I will be referring back to this video as I begin to construct my paper, and while I am reviewing the pertinent literature to my topic.
I watched this video midway through the semester, and I have to be honest, I truly wish i would have watched it the first week. It is a thorough breakdown of how a literature review should be organized. It also helps alleviate some of the anxieties I've had regarding references and finding themes in my articles to use as "fuel" for my manuscript. Nevertheless, this video helped me reorganize my paper more efficiently. Thank you so much!
This video was extremely helpful, and I know it will make writing the research proposal much simpler. It is overwhelming how much information is needed for the research proposal, but I feel more confident in writing it with these guidelines.
Rachel Foster I agree this video provided great information on the organization of my literature review. I found the information on the amount of references helpful. I need to find a balance.
Rachel Foster This video made breathing a little bit easier while I was working on my paper. I thought it was refreshing to see how you funnel down your research into a narrowed enough field or question that gives your paper a great amount of focus and specificity.
Thank you for the video. It reinforced the discussion in class. Some important points that stuck out to me were the idea of being broad but not global, look for a gap in the literature, summarize before the RQ and hypotheses, and offer information that both supports and challenges your study.
This video was very helpful in that it clearly outlined what is needed to write a good literature review. I am sure that I will be returning to this video as I wrap up writing my literature review for the research proposal.
I am currently writing a literature review and this video has been extremely helpful within the structure of this paper. Also, it has been extremely helpful in what a literature review must include.
This video was extremely helpful and informative. I definitely feel more confident in writing my paper. I have a better understanding of the assignment and can finally sit down and put some words on paper.
Ashlee Todd Before watching these videos, I felt very overwhelmed. However, after watching the videos and seeing examples, I feel less anxious and overwhelmed. A literature review is a different style of writing, but it is helpful to have this video to base ours upon.
Dr. Grande. This video had several blips in it and may have a formatting issue. Other than that.... I was able to get through to the end seeing most of the video. The slide and info on Topic to Hypotheses narrowing was very helpful. I can visualize my own research plans much more efficiently having seen this demonstration.
I really enjoy reading literature reviews, and to learning the tools in order to write one is super helpful. There is a lot that has to go into it, but seems like it could be fun.
I LOVED this video! It really helped me to organize my thoughts before starting my literature review. I now don't feel so lost and have a little more direction.
This video provides an overview of the elements of a literature review with sufficient detail to understand the what, why and how questions associated with the process. I feel that it is important to consider the purpose, structure, organization, and writing when preparing for the review as well as throughout the process.
This was very informative. I learned that literature reviews include results that challenge a proposed study, as opposed to only supportive results. I knew that it was important/vital to locate primary sources, but it may not always be successful. With many documents/articles being online now, I can only assume that it is less difficult to find primary sources, depending on the year that they were published.
This information is going to be helpful when writing my Literature Review. It has made things clearer for me and I will use this as a guide in the support of completing it. One thing that stood out to me in the video was that it was not uncommon to have 2 or more citations at the end of each sentence. It made sense and I would imagine that it would happen when studies agree collectively.
This was a great video. I'm doing some finishing touches on my literature review and this is really helping with making a few changes to make it better. It's very helpful, thanks!
This video should be listed at the very beginning of the playlist. It was my fault for not looking ahead but I found this video would have helped me better synthesize my articles and formulating my research proposal.
