On your 5th point : I grew up in a household with 3 languages. My French mum who used to teach Spanish and English (my 2 other languages) when she was younger, would stop me and tell me in French that she doesn't understand English/Spanish if I switched language. It was funny to both of us but I always understood and respected what she was doing for me.
That is so impressive that your kids can communicate well in Chinese, even without other environmental influences! That's awesome! I'm not fluent in Spanish, but I've learned a lot since having kids, and also use Spanish with my boys. Because my husband is the primary Spanish speaker, but he's also gone all day for work, I feel like they need more Spanish exposure from me, since I spend my days with them. Our kids always motivate us to learn more!
Hi Rui Zhang! My wife and I are considering the idea of having kids and giving them the opportunity to be bilingual, however, even though we live in New York since the last year, we are Spanish native speakers and we are still struggling for getting fluency in English. Do you think is it possible to raise our children in Chinese and French languages too? How useful can be to carry them to a Chinese daycare? and how easy is it to involve them in a French environment here in New York? Could you share with us some recommendations, please? Thanks, we admire your job as a mother!
Thanks for your encouragement! I think it would be great if you can bring up your children speaking both English and Spanish. Since you are already in NY, you can improve your English with the kids. Then it's very important to teach them your mothertongue Spanish as well. These two languages are your priority based on your background. As for Chinese and French, it would be nice if you can learn with them and create oppotunities to use the languages. Sending them to Chinese daycare and attending French activities would definitely help. But juggling four languages is a lot and it takes a lot of time and efforts from you - the parents. So if you enjoy learning different languages yourself it would be nice to try to learn at least some basics with the kids:)
Hi Rui, I just discovered your channel and I am loving it. I have a 8 months old and we are trying to raise her bilingual as my husband is Canadian and I am French. I would also really love to introduce Chinese but I am still trying to figure out how. How did you teach English and German to your boys? Did your children get confused between the 3 languages? In your video you mentioned a few books that you read about children language acquisition. Would you mind sharing the references of these books?
I’m raising my child bilingual and looking for advice regarding our specific situation. Does anyone have any recommendations on who I can chat with? Maybe a consultation with an expert online?
Hi Rui, Thank you for sharing with us your experience. And it's very useful for us as we have already used them to our kids. And by the way, your 旗袍 is very nice. Can you share that with me too? haha.

You are doing a great job learning Spanish so that they get more exposure from you. It definitely helps!
Great advice Rui! It certainly is a challenge but absolutely worth it! Thanks for sharing your experience. ❤️
