- In today’s video we show how we fabricated a stock Ls truck engine driver side manifold and turned it into a #turbo manifold by cutting off the flange and welding a 2.5” V-band. I just watched 10 videos of how you got to heat the shit then cool it nice and slow. Blah blah.... this thing is still together now isnt it....
Yessir it is… 👍
Love your confidence. Thats the way we learn how to do things. Try it even if its been said that you can't. Can't never will.
Hell yeah!! Thanks 💯🙏
@MRRANDOM1 you are very welcome and I've enjoyed the complete video, including the comment section.
This video happened to come across my feed a day after I welded 2.5" V bands on my truck manifolds. My welds turned out great after preheating the manifolds in the sun and grinding the collectors down to bare metal.
I highly recommend getting a can of welding anti-spatter to keep slag to a minimum
Thanks for the advice
When weld always grind the metal where the ground goes! Notice the sparks at ground clamp not making good connections. Cast should be preheated to remove contamination and make the weld penetrate. Good effort though
Thanks for sharing that information definitely will do it next time 💯🤝
I remember when I first learned to weld and it looked horrid. I practiced alot with scrap metal and my learning curve vastly improved. That's what I would recommend if you're worried about lack of experience or appearance of the finished weld. Good luck with your project.
Thanks hopefully I can enjoy it soon
I recommend you learn how to set up your mig properly - once your torch is dialled in life will be easier
I enjoy seeing the mistakes. Reminds me all professionals began as beginners
Glad you enjoyed
Excellent work and skills 👏
Thanks fam
here ready and watching peace
Thanks Sweetpea
This is whats it's about. Getting too it and learning.
Facts 💯💯🤝
You might like a 4.5" sandpaper flapper wheel on a side grinder. It makes a perfect bevel. It will help you weld lay flatter. That's awesome man. I want to put an enexpensive turbo on a Chevy 2.8.
Thanks fam, I’m still learning get better as I go. I did purchase a flap disc and it works much better. The GT45 or a smaller model is a great budget Turbo I have had any issues with mines. 💯🤝🏁

Yessir my boi 🔥💪
💯💯💯
💪🏽💪🏽 getting it done keep up the grind bro
Thanks fam 💯💯
Mr.Random at it again 💥💯
Willie Rebuildz! I gotta get that truck to you! 💯💯🤝
Come on down Mr.random I got you bro
Need to Muggy weld that!
I should have, it’s holding up pretty good for a beginner, thanks 💯🫡
Top of the morning neph I'm watching
What up Unk
I'm good neph I stay away from chickens I like what hair I got left
You definitely need to heat up the cast iron with a torch first.. you welds may look like it's penatrading the cast iron but it's not enough compared to the v-band flange. And get closer so you can see everything. That will eliminate a lot of mistakes. Also, 1.... don't weld cast iron to stainless. Keep practicing you'll get better at it..
👊
Thanks for the info fam, you think it’s going to hold up? 🤝
There not cast iron. There cast steel. Completely find to weld stainless v-bands to just have 100's of people have before him.
@@anthonyjones8043 I was going to say they’re cast steel too. I understand the mistake. They look like cast iron and most exhaust manifolds for decades have been iron so people think they’re all iron. I still pre heat cast steel though.
I was actually wondering if he was going to heat up the manifold after giving it a few tack welds
mine is iron and imma try bukake-ing that shit in my forge until it's red and welding it to stainless then. my oem turbo manifold is cast and i replaced it with a bigger one that had the manifold attached to it, so imma cut up the oem one to try and build a rotated setup. only difference is im goin with a t3 flange
You did that bro!
Thanks fam 💯💯
Do you know what wire you used? Love the confidence man keep it up.
Vulcan Er70s-6 mild steel Mig, From harbor freight. Thanks 💯🫡
Horrible work. Your welds are not back purged so they won't be strong! You cut the v-band when you was grinding. Nasty work area.
DONT DO WHAT THIS GUY DOES!
Wow, It’s still holding up.
So amazing thanks for sharing
Thanks for visiting
Preheat cast in oven then tig, way easier. and cool slowly in some welding gloves
Good tip! Thanks for sharing
Bout to do the same thing myself this weekend ! Thanks for posting
Thanks for stopping by fam it wasn’t bad I first cut the manifold 1/4 angle inwards towards the motor
2:47 hahaha
Next time stick it, nickel rods 3.2 mm, 140 amps, 1.2 Hz pulse. It will look like a dream come true.
Thanks fam I have a new multi welder I will be doing a review and testing out my stick welding skills 🤝
@@MRRANDOM1 Goodluck. Stick is hard.
So stainless vband to a cast iron manifold won't hold up very long
Not sure but mines been good lately 🤞
I see u
Trying
Do it with the whole band clamped on to prevent warping
Thanks for your support 💯🤝
🔥🔥🔥
Yessir thanks brother, its coming along!
@@MRRANDOM1 i see ya brother you doing it big
@@SS_Gang777 Ready to move on
@@MRRANDOM1 I know the feeling bro. Trust
What's gonna crack first? The weld or my mind from that erratic ass music?
Weld still holding on do I guess your mind 👍
Yeah usually there's a specific way to weld aluminum and stainless steel, but never have had too so dont know 🤔
I should have heated it up first
What size v bands you use
2.5 flats. Get the ones that beveled for self alignment and seal exhaust better
Hey what size V-bands did you use? If you can drop a link
2.5 Here’s the link www.ebay.com/itm/174104483771?hash=item28896f97bb:g:qEEAAOSw7Z5d2Mjz
Anyone try this on the older SBC?
3:19 that beat fire
also good job those welds wasnt bad
Thanks 🤝
What size are those the v bands?
2.5” get the ones that beveled to self align and seal exhaust leaks
Have you put that on a car yet? Wondering how it’s holding up.
Yes I have, it’s holding up great
How is to this day
How has your welding progressed from then to now??
I have a new machine now that I will be doing a review on but each time I do anything It’s better
Turn yo welder wire feed speed down some
Thanks
Dont wrap it, you wont be able to see the cracks in the cast garbage
Facts don’t forget to Like and subscribe 👍
What’s up with the music 😅
Not sure 🤔
Sounds really weird like if 2 tracks are playing at the same time other than that good job on the manifold
Random
Thanks Family
Thanks for showing the mistakes, I have made the same ones.
Most videos make the person a pro at every thing.
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
2 music's at the same time gave me adhd
Thanks for your advice
