    This video happened to come across my feed a day after I welded 2.5" V bands on my truck manifolds. My welds turned out great after preheating the manifolds in the sun and grinding the collectors down to bare metal.
    I highly recommend getting a can of welding anti-spatter to keep slag to a minimum

  • @MrBlackbutang
    @MrBlackbutang 2 роки тому +7

    When weld always grind the metal where the ground goes! Notice the sparks at ground clamp not making good connections. Cast should be preheated to remove contamination and make the weld penetrate. Good effort though

    I remember when I first learned to weld and it looked horrid. I practiced alot with scrap metal and my learning curve vastly improved. That's what I would recommend if you're worried about lack of experience or appearance of the finished weld. Good luck with your project.

    You might like a 4.5" sandpaper flapper wheel on a side grinder. It makes a perfect bevel. It will help you weld lay flatter. That's awesome man. I want to put an enexpensive turbo on a Chevy 2.8.

    You definitely need to heat up the cast iron with a torch first.. you welds may look like it's penatrading the cast iron but it's not enough compared to the v-band flange. And get closer so you can see everything. That will eliminate a lot of mistakes. Also, 1.... don't weld cast iron to stainless. Keep practicing you'll get better at it..

    • @anthonyjones8043

      There not cast iron. There cast steel. Completely find to weld stainless v-bands to just have 100's of people have before him.

    • @deegan727
      @deegan727 2 роки тому +6

      @@anthonyjones8043 I was going to say they’re cast steel too. I understand the mistake. They look like cast iron and most exhaust manifolds for decades have been iron so people think they’re all iron. I still pre heat cast steel though.

      mine is iron and imma try bukake-ing that shit in my forge until it's red and welding it to stainless then. my oem turbo manifold is cast and i replaced it with a bigger one that had the manifold attached to it, so imma cut up the oem one to try and build a rotated setup. only difference is im goin with a t3 flange

    Horrible work. Your welds are not back purged so they won't be strong! You cut the v-band when you was grinding. Nasty work area.
