Korg ER-1 MKII "Patch from Scratch" Practice #1

  • I decided to practice "patching from scratch". That is I start with none of the synth drums made, build them as I go, and make a beat. Maybe if I practice enough, I can do a full on improv set with just the ER-1. I think it's plenty capable.
    Pardon the syncing. I'm not great at video stuff and I still need that Roland Go mixer to combine my line audio with the iPhone camera.

    Such a nice machine and I enjoyed watching what you done here. In all seriousness though, I had a great set of headphones on. I don’t typically crank them all the way up, but ironically enough, they were maxed from the previous vid that had been playing when I started washing up a few dishes. At the start, all was well in my world and I was excited to see what machine was being used after I finished and could walk back over to the table to look. Around the 30 sec mark, my hands came out of that water so fast and went straight to my head to yank those suckers off. The cat was having his usual bird watching session on the window sill above the sink (like he does every morning) and went straight in the water because I scared the hell out of him. I will be cleaning up water now and suspect that the ringing in my ears will last a while. Shit! Other than that, nice work.

    I used to own that machine, but that click always bothered the hell out of me. But as it turns out, that is its best feature! lol

    I have the EMX 1 and ESX 1 blue and Red sequencer and the Sampler. Would be interesting yo tie a third together. Stand alone yhey are pretty dope and strong. This one is pretty cool. Seems pretty similar to the ones i have. I am sure kt hasnits own little gimmick to make it special?

    How do i Start a Motion sequence 🙈

    • @ex-zen
      @ex-zen 9 місяців тому

      Engage the button in "motion seq"-section and set it to the variant you like. Then press play in with record armed and fiddle away. It records the button for waveselection aswell. Then in songmode you have an additional m.seq.-track on top of it all.

    Look, I'm not going to bag on what you did, but I have to say, this was a pretty baffling video. Recommend that in future videos you use your words a bit? I think this would have been a lot more interesting if you explained what you were trying to do, even a little. I mean, you pushed buttons and twiddled knobs, but never said what you were hoping would happen. Sometimes the sound changed, sometimes not. Sometimes you hit one button and a lot of lights changed. Often, you twiddled a dial with your hand blocking what you were doing, so without a clue as to what you were trying to do... let's say I didn't get a lot out of it.
    I suspect you did something cool but I don't know what, how, what order things had to be done in, how I might go about doing something similar, how close the results you got were to what you intended, etc.
    I've actually got an ER-1 I bought a few years back, without documentation, and arrived here hoping for hints. Guess I'll keep searching.

      Instruction was not the goal of this video. The goal was to create a beat from scratch (no sound design), with no edits, on camera. It was a practice I shared for fun.
      A few people here found it helpful or inspirational. If you want instruction, I have another video with more details on how to program a simple beat.
      You demand a lot from a video, almost as if I promised you something and didn’t deliver.
      Learn your machine and make your own tutorial video once you have a grasp.

      Fair enough. I don't think you owe me anything, and certainly wasn't trying to be rude, I just noticed that it was really hard to follow what you were doing for a rookie and it seemed like your intent was to provide a tutorial for rookies. So I thought you might appreciate the feedback. I was mistaken and will not do this again. I actually found your video when trying to figure out how to use my ER-1, which I bought used and without manual nor even power supply (which I have fixed) and was disappointed. Again, this isn't your problem, I just misunderstood what you were trying to do. In both ways - I couldn't figure out what you were trying to show, and assumed you were trying to show it to help people. My bad.
      I'm also baffled as to how my original comment was construed as rude or hateful. That certainly was not my intent, and even re-reading it now, I just don't see it. Looks like well-meant, positive feedback to me? I guess I just suck at youtube. Sorry.
