  • Asian American men have significant smoking history and are unaware of lung cancer screening guidelines. There is also an increasing incidence of lung cancer in non-smoking Asian American females. Jeff Velotta, MD, FACS, discusses lung cancer screening guidelines as well as potential outcomes of lung cancer as it relates to Asian Americans.

    Presenter: Jeffrey Velotta, MD, FACS, is a thoracic surgeon at Kaiser Permanente Northern California and an adjunct clinical assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. Dr. Velotta received his MD from the George Washington University School of Medicine. He then went on to finish general surgery residency at UCLA along with a postdoctoral research fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Stanford University and completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Velotta’s clinical and research interests focus on outcomes after regionalization for thoracic surgery and lung cancer outcomes in Asian Americans.

    Interesting. No matter where I go and Asian men are around they smoke like raging engines. I think maybe women are in the vicinity and get the poison this is why I'm against smoking in public and apartment complexes. Secondhand smoke should've been taken more seriously... and they should've cared about the quality of life for the other 90% of the population who don't smoke rather than just the ones that suck on poison sticks all day. I don't have a problem with them poisoning their own air but it's so not fair for the rest of us.
