Me and my dad are restoring a 1972 fj40 My dad was completely tearing it down to do a full restoration about 16 years ago but when I was born 15 years ago he stopped working on it and it sat in the woods until 2 years ago. I was begging my dad since I was about 8 years old to work on it and I finally convinced him to work on it and we are almost done after 2 years of working on it after school and work I am so excited to finish it and get it on the road. I am 15 and just got a truck from my cousin so I’m excited to drive both
I think your ofd road videoa are just fine. Not everyone will be climbing mountains with their rigs and spending 100k on upgrades. Thanks for the upload. it looks fun.
Can toyota please bring both these body styles back with a modern drivetrain and other modern touches. They would both sell like hotcakes. Just make the fj a 2 door off roading short wheelbase monster, the 6th gen 4rhnner will still hold its own place with the 4door and versatile suv, and the fj40 can be a no nonsense off roading cheaper land cruiser and more than ever since the modern land cruisers are most likely getting discontinued.
yeah the u.s market toyota vehicles are very unfortunate. You can get some really cool Land cruisers overseas and they still even make the FJ-cruiser....no FJ-40 tho. Still, their land cruiser overseas are pretty bare-bone compared to "today's modern vehicle." So they kinda kept everything pretty basic.
Can’t go wrong with the infamous fj40. It’s the holy grail of off road vehicles and an upgrade for sure. There’s a reason it’s considered the most influential vehicle in automotive history and still whoops Toyota’s and jeeps even clapped out. The TRUE upgrade of all Toyota’s
Nothing touches an FJ40. The FJ40 will do everything the FJ cruiser will do only it can go up a quad trail which an FJ cruiser cannot. Which is why it drives me nuts how big all the new Toyotas are.... I live in British Columbia and no amount of automatic gadgets or fancy options will get you through a narrow trail that a wide vehicle wont fit down.
AMEN!....Fred Williams on the TV show Dirt Everyday was commenting on the "supersizing" of 4x4's and how the Tacoma of today is larger than the Tundra of yesterday. It's gotten absurd! (and not just with Toyota). I don't know if this is North American "thing" or a worldwide issue.
Great video man thanks for it I been taking my hj45 everywhere in Cali great lcs they ware made to last I would love to get together with others Cruser thanks man
I’m 16 years old and Im in love with these cars I wanna start working so I can put a down payment on it , when I’m older that is my plan for one of these cars
Nah mate. Get an old Suzuki Sierra or something. Save for a house. It’s way better. So many people want to have a sick first car. Start with a bomb and save for a house. If you follow this advice you’ll thank me later. Ask anyone over 50. What’s better, a good first car or saving for a house. Definitely save for a house becaise there are so many people who went out and got a car loan later to regret it because it’s a pain paying every month for a car. Please don’t get an expensive car as a first car as it’s gonna be old and rusty one day. Car value goes down. House value goes up. $100,000 in a car will be $20,000 in 20 years. A $200,000 house will be worth $600,000 in 20 years. Get a mortgage with a 20% down payment after saving for it $40,000. Do it man. Don’t stuff up with a car loan
@@christianguerrero843 dude youre 16, getting a car first (depending on where you live) is most definitely the move. My FJ has made me money and if I sold it right now, I have no doubt that I can get almost double what I bought it for. You've just gotta be smart with your money
Your video was like a walk through a park... Didn't show the true and incredible performance and resistance of the FJ40's we see here in the Venezuelan or Brazilian gold mining deep jungle trails...The Venezuelan version has the trustworthy F-2 and F-3 gasoline carbureted engines but most brazilian model use a diesel...Both models are immortal...Here we have use in the deep jungle trails that interconect gold and diamond mines in VENEZUELA and Brazil, most 4x4's made in US, Japan, China, England, Germany, Korea, India and Russia; but all brake down in realtively short time... The everlasting champion is the FJ-40 Jeep, pick-up and the longer chassis truck with platform....These 4×4's are incredibly resistent to abuse...The only requirement, without exceptions, is that al replacement parts must be ORIGINAL TOYOTA....
"not as ideal for the really rocky challenging terrain".... That FJ40 will rip the FJ cruiser apart offroad. Not even close. That hill you were all afraid of. No prob for the 40. I've had both. EDIT: Not trying to hate but there is nothing an FJ Cruiser can do offroad that an FJ40 can't.
It’s not a fair comparison, the Fj cruiser isn’t stock as the 40…. The cruiser isn’t a tough 4x4, it doesn’t have a solid front axle, not much flex, it’s more of an over landing vehicle…..

@@DrivenCompanion Very fun I love it
My 71 is the funnest vehicle I've ever driven. Nothing like driving in the bush with no roof, doors, and windshield folded. Good times.

When was the last time you bought a hotcake?
Yes,i love that fj 40😍😍😍
The fj40
My love
The brazilian perfection
That fj cruiser looks so good with those tires and wheels.
I take my fzj80 off roading, but man, I love to get me an fj40

im an fj guy ...i need to know about the roofrack you installed ,bajarack ..where did you get it? thanks
Its the Baja Rack OEM Roof Basket... you can purchase on the baja racks website
If it had been beautifully and sensitively restored, then probably J4.
I've got the same color/yr of FJ Cruiser. I dig your wheels. What brand?
SCS SR8s
Great comparison between the Toyota FJ Cruiser and the FJ40 better known as classic during off roading
Thanks ,that was fun.
Yoooooo. I want that FJ40!!

The long wheel base of the FJ 55 allow you to go steep without the fear of rolling end over end as much as an fj 40
Great video man thanks for it I been taking my hj45 everywhere in Cali great lcs they ware made to last I would love to get together with others Cruser thanks man
love the teal color on the fj40
Awesome video
Man I love your videos keep it up when are you going to review the purple bugatti
i have both of them by now they are perfect

Where is this trail?
Cline Buttes OHV Area
@@DrivenCompanion come out to the eastern Sierra mountains and check it out!
Orygun! Nice. I hail from salem
Yo Mike, great vids, thanks. Was that other guy Lauryn’s Dad?
Nope, just a good friend of mine
Amazing car
Is that Grateful Dead? I love it...
To short to be a Dead song ;) haha
Where is the offroading? This place looks like my back yard , FWD will perform good here .
Hadn't been to this area before and unfortunately most the trails were either very easy or extremely hard.... not much in the middle.
The FJ Cruiser is great but I might choose a Prado instead. FJ price is too high for an old one.
Go all king of the hammers on those trails
boi she got that seat allll the to the front🤣🤦🏿♂️... cant wait to throw the 35s onto my fj soon
i think the FJ cruisers could potentially become as expensive as the FJ40...the price is already going up.
Nice FJ...both of them actually😉.
❤️

Yeah I agree we could have given it a more grueling test but its my friend's so I didn't want to push him to do things he wasn't comfortable with.
all im sayin is you should have gotten the manual fj cruiser if you didn't
I actually prefer the automatic for off-roading although the manual is temping... also hard to come by.
Fj40 is way better
FJ 1972 in saudi Arabia called Abushnab 🤣🤣🤣
You need someone who’s not afraid to use their 40 series & put it through a test,I take my 69 everywhere with a 5” lift and 37-12.5 TSL SuperSwampers.
Are you in the PNW?
@@DrivenCompanion unfortunately no,central Tennessee. I came from SoCal.Love it up your way though. I can send pictures if you want to see it?

My driveway is more challenging than that. Find some rugged hillsides and go for it.
