Just what I saw on youtube and was told by someone about the 40J version, its not getting over 40 joule, not reaches even 40J.I heard its the same inside all 3 models, just because of the 88g it makes a few joules more than the open one from the video here.Feel somehow screwed by Umarex waiting a year and then hear stuff like that, disappointing.
@@pastori70 The maximum I saw here on youtube from that french guy(naturabuy or so is the channel's name). He also has a tab with the joulenumbers on his site with different ammo.Just one ammo comes in medium to 39J,the other ammos fall down also to 33-36 if I remember right. The gun looks really nice, but I expected more from it.Maybe we see more tests when Umarex finally delivers in another year or two,but I dont wait much more from it.But for real defense are meanwhile stronger options available.Maybe someone invents some more tuning for the HDX,like another barrel or so.
I have a 40 Joule HDX on the way and I'm excited to see how well it fires and handles various targets. As much as I love my Byrna for daily carry, I want something a little more powerful for home defense and this HDX fits the bill nicely. I'm pretty sure Chemical rounds are out of the question with it thought LoL.
Less-lethal seems like a good option. I would advise a against defenseinnovations. I had a pre order since June of last year, and they just repeatedly push it out. I ended up just having them send the normal version with the valve pin kit and did the install myself. Nobody knows when or if umarex will sell the 40j in the USA, and defense innovations is just guessing because they don't do the upgrade themselves. It took me around 3 hours. Having done it I feel it could be done again pretty easily in under an hour. Reassembly is tedious.
By the way guys, the 40 joule model uses two (02) Co2 cartridges. One is the large 88 gram Co2 cartridge, the other the common 12 gr. cartridge. New to the 88 gram cartridge or don't want that expense? No problem: Your Umarex 40 joule purchase includes an (otherwise $39) Umarex Co2 adapter, that allows you to use two 12 gram Co2 cartridges in lieu of the 88 gram.
Mine didn't include the conversion kit. What do you mean the 40J version uses two Co2 cartridges? That you can use them both simultaneously? I'm confused
@@tonyross4365 I have the HPA kit from homedefence-24, which I am going to try. Someone with good machining skills might be able work a thread, for fitting a hpa tank, don't think I will tackle it though.
Hi Ben, Chris here from across the pond in the USA, been drooling over these for a HDX 68 for a bit now and watching your videos and other videos on these air rifles. So in your honest opinion if you are really looking for stopping power for an intruder is it worth grabbing one of the 11 joules versions that are in the USA and do the following. The power kit and then do the mod with adapter for the 88grm Co2 cartridge or wait and hope that the 40 joule version actually shows up here in the States next November? I myself hate waiting and preordering and paying for something that far off as I have gotten stiffed more times than care to mention. I am fairly competent at doing this work as I used to own an Airsoft business and did all the repairs and upgrades. Thank in advance.
I modded my 7.5 joule version and it now makes about 40 joules. There are other mods you can do, check out this company that make adapters for HPA and 88g CO2: www.criticalsituations.co.uk/
Hi my friend, just bought the valve kit and the adapter for 88g, but please, let me ask you if the little gold restriction in 13:56 i should to remove it or i have to put it back on. Thank you for your precious answer.
that's all very nice and everything but how much rounds you get out of this thing with just two 12g cartridges. 10? not worth it. if i want that much power i'd get the "official" 40joule version with 88g cartridge.
Have to walk the dogs, but at 17:20 gotta say DEM JOULES, HOLY CHINGAMOLES! That's now a substantial bit of kit. (One should expect no less from such an awesome looking beast.)
Hi, I clicked on your link to get the power upgrade but it no longer ships to the UK anymore! Do you know where I could get one from please mate? Regards, Greg.
88gr co2 should give a little more power too because the co2 dont have to fill up the hole black pipe so less preassure loss i guess. But you have to saw off the pipe
Hi, I have a question about the part you have to heat up. Is it made of plastic? You say that you just put it on a hob. Do you put something between? Sorry the question is naivve mayvbe but i hesitate to add the powerkit so i want to be sure on how to proceed. Thanks
Hi. Es gibt auch für die 7,5 Joule Version den Ventilblock mit 88 g Anschluss. Wenn man den mit tauschst und das Ventil wechselst kommt man auf 40 Joule?
Yes, you definitely want to do your "French Locale Upgrade" to this (7 joules renders this suitable only for paintball games). As for me, I just paid $350 to pre-order the 40 joule version. Yee haw . . .
All three power versions are €500 here in France, so a fairly expensive. I now have my Cat C license, but can't justify buying another at 40joules. 30 joules is still pretty good.
Grande video come sempre 😊😊... Anch'io con il mio HDR 50 umarex sono passato da 7.5 a 11 joule efettivi ela differenza è veramente notevole in potenza e spunto d impatto!!😮😮
Hi Ben, So, if I fitted the 88g Housing adapter to use the 88g Co2 is it worth fitting the power kit as well? Just seems a lot more messing around if it doesn’t make much difference in power.
The HDX kit is sold out but after looking at the HDS kit it seems to be the same kit, do you think it would fit the same since its basically the same system
I misspoke, I'm talking about the 16 possible shots of the rifle. With the modification the 16 shots are around 30 joules, or for example after the 10 th shots, we drop to 20 joules or less?, you understand better what I ask? because in the video you show the power, but just on the first 5 shots. thank you.
I read somewhere that the only difference between the 40 joule and 16 joule versions (those are the two power levels that will be sold here in the U.S.) is that the 40 joule version has the mechanicals for the 88 gram Co2 cartridge. Otherwise, the mechanicals are the same. If that proves accurate, I'm going to be real curious to see what happens on installing the power kit on the 40 joule shotgun. Hmm. . . safe to assume the relevant parts are engineered to handle what, 60+ joules?
I think Florian at Homedefence-24 has had a play about with the 40joule version. He said there were some gains to be had, but as most people seem to be happy with 40joules, they don't seem to be modding them.
@@Maddogairguns Yes, that makes total sense. They are a business, have to go where the demand is. At 40 joules I would NOT take apart the beast only to squeak a few more joules.
Ola!! Been a couple of months now. Curious as to whether you have noticed any reliability issues since doing the mods? Dumping gas, miss-fires etc? Inconsistent velocities maybe? Or sweet as a nut?
After doing these mods, I had it dump a lot of gas on the first shot. Quickly reloaded the next round and it stopped. Not had that problem since, so think it might have got a bit stuck inside. Seems to be going ok other than that first shot.

Absolutely awesome... been waiting for a mod vid of this gun for months... would I be right in thinking that the 16 joule version with the mod would kick out even more power or is it better to mod up the 7.5 only
I've been told that the 7.5 & 16 joule version, both make the same power when modded. The gun is too expensive for me to try, so I'll take their word for it.
Does this shoot just as hard as the 40 J version that is set to come off the shelves? Trying to decide if i wanna get the 7 J and do this or just pre order and get the 40 J whenever they’re available to ship again
Nice. I want to know if it's possible to fit an 88g Co2 cartridge instead of the 2 12g Co2 cartridges by removing the black tube at the back of the gun? It would be nice to know if the thread is already there for the 88g.
Absolutely struggling to get the old power kit out, to replace it at the moment. Other than that this videos been great! I believe since mine is the 11 J version that with my power kit tuning it’ll get up to 30-40 joules. That’s the hope at least lol
If you put the 88 gram adapter on and take out the restrictor, that black plastic thing he took out of the air tube, you don't need the power kit. I did the 88 gram adapter and took out the restrictor and got 45 joules without the power kit
@@Maddogairguns cheers can't wait to mod mine 😄 how many shots do you get per co2 cartridge once mod is done, and do you know if there's a way to convert to the 88g cartridge

The HDX68, in the UK is classed as an air rifle, due to the length of the barrel. So that is the reason the 16joule version is available. Legal limit in the UK for air rifles is 12ft lb, so any mods you do to a 16joule version will put you outside the law.
This is going into my Umarex folder, for when I hop up my pre-ordered 40 joule version. My brain is salivating at the thought of upgrading the power to what . . . 60 joules?😁 If that's doable I suspect that's when I will appreciate that the gun uses 88 gram Co2 cartridges.

OK now I have my plan. Find someone who knows how to do this and ask them to do it. I would end up sitting on the ground in tears surrounded by parts if I tried this myself. I've changed the timing belt on a Chevy Vega using less tools.
You don't need I sell way better products here in South Africa we don't play with what's effective
Dude it wouldn't be that hard if this clown would tell you exactly how many screws there are and keep a count of them and also tell you a little bit of something that makes a huge difference and that underneath where they have that storage compartment for the loading mechanism to help load you have a screw that is got to come out in order for it to split in half he says nothing about it and also it's not a Philips it's not a a straight screwdriver it's a really strange bolt that is not a hex head or anything
I already regret. I thought it's going to be easy 😅, step by step I loosing hope finish 😂
Man, I was really excited about this modification..
Christ it looks fiddiley. I'm never gonna get that thing back together!! Looking back, any pro tips for a beginner??
I just want to say I'm probably the biggest fan you have here in the United States I watch a lot of channels from you guys in France but you're the only one I can actually understand I see they have a lot of front firing blank guns there with the ball attachments we have those guns here also the front firing blank guns but I cannot find the ball attachments with a teargas around anywhere they used to sell them everywhere when I was a kid I'm 38 years old now for some reason they was taken away a long time ago and then they got brought back but I can't find the gas rounds or the Bullet a judgment anywhere we are allowed to have them but nobody Imports that stuff because there's no market for it here people would rather go and buy regular bullet shooting guns but I on the other hand love the front firing blank guns and have a whole collection they sell fully automatic front firing blank guns in the United States I don't know if they do there or not they are a whole lot of fun I don't know if it's in when your upcoming videos but could you use the ball attachment in a video with the chronograph I'm really curious to see how many jewels that puts out well anyway I hope you and The Hobbit and we can't forget the dogs LOL have a very merry Christmas and a happy healthy safe New Year
If you buy 40J version, you can get an adapter for two Co2-capsules. It is then ~24J version with quick piercing mechanism.
@@sven471111 really? If so, that’s bad… Is it even 30J?
@@pastori70 The maximum I saw here on youtube from that french guy(naturabuy or so is the channel's name). He also has a tab with the joulenumbers on his site with different ammo.Just one ammo comes in medium to 39J,the other ammos fall down also to 33-36 if I remember right. The gun looks really nice, but I expected more from it.Maybe we see more tests when Umarex finally delivers in another year or two,but I dont wait much more from it.But for real defense are meanwhile stronger options available.Maybe someone invents some more tuning for the HDX,like another barrel or so.
@@sven471111 i have the schematics from umarex, the 7.5 and 16 have completely different innards to the 40. Was hoping I could mod to 40 but not so.

Where can I order a 40 joules HDX?
If you're in US Umarex said they won't be shipping 40j there, so how did you get one?
@@JimmyIronballs less-lethaldefense sells them
Less-lethal seems like a good option.
Mine did not come with the conversion kit, however I do have one from another gun, but if you use the converter kit, you can forget 40J though!
Thanks Ben! Stick a HPA tank on it and show us if it improves the joules and consistency!
That’s what I’m trying next.
@@Maddogairguns looking forward to the update!! 👍
@@Maddogairguns Hi Ben,
Do you know if it’s possible to fit a 88g Co2 to the HDX? or even a HPA tank?
@@tonyross4365 I have the HPA kit from homedefence-24, which I am going to try. Someone with good machining skills might be able work a thread, for fitting a hpa tank, don't think I will tackle it though.
@@Maddogairguns have you a link for the HPA kit? I can’t see it on Florian’s website?
At 13 min 40 sec the small part that you hold in your hand... should it be removed definitively for unclamping??
Thank you...
Wow doesn't look like a cake to me I'm getting mine already set to 40j
Hello, I did all this and now the gas farts, doesnt work. What do you think could be the problem?
Brilliant 👌🏼 Merry Christmas to you Mad Dog 🥳
Have to walk the dogs, but at 17:20 gotta say DEM JOULES, HOLY CHINGAMOLES! That's now a substantial bit of kit. (One should expect no less from such an awesome looking beast.)
Más digo,yo compré una de 16 julios,me llega esta semana.Crees que es suficiente para defensa en casa con esos 16 julios? Gracias!
Hi, I clicked on your link to get the power upgrade but it no longer ships to the UK anymore! Do you know where I could get one from please mate? Regards, Greg.
💪Merry Christmas and New Year
Same to you 🎅🎄🍻
88gr co2 should give a little more power too because the co2 dont have to fill up the hole black pipe so less preassure loss i guess. But you have to saw off the pipe
I was really surprised, that valve made a really big difference.
Why is the powerkit so expensive with the shipping?
Nice video Ben. It sure has some power now. Merry Christmas 😃
Yes, you can see the balls fly true and straight now, before you could see them dropping off. Merry Christmas 🎅
Merci trop top 👍
Et joyeux Noël 🎄
Can the 40j be upgraded the same way? How much would it go up?
I just done it
I wouldn't recommend do it without experience and all tools
Hi @Maddogairguns ! Do you think its lifespan will be shortened because of the modification?
I wouldn't have thought so. Umarex ship a 40 joule version, and I believe the powerkit has been reverse engineered from the 40 joule version.
love it. will it work on the 16 j. Im in france. thinking of getting one
Hi,
I have a question about the part you have to heat up.
Is it made of plastic?
You say that you just put it on a hob. Do you put something between? Sorry the question is naivve mayvbe but i hesitate to add the powerkit so i want to be sure on how to proceed.
Thanks
The piece I heat up is some kind of alloy/metal, definitely not plastic.
Excellent video - technically speaking what’s the difference between the 16 and 40j version ?
Not sure, I’ve only taken the 7.5joule version apart. I think homedefence-24 has done all versions.
Me and maybe subscribers are not getting updates mate. Had to look for this.
I’ve not released it to the public yet, it’s set to unlisted. Will set it to public tomorrow.
Grande video come sempre 😊😊... Anch'io con il mio HDR 50 umarex sono passato da 7.5 a 11 joule efettivi ela differenza è veramente notevole in potenza e spunto d impatto!!😮😮
Hi Ben,
So, if I fitted the 88g Housing adapter to use the 88g Co2 is it worth fitting the power kit as well?
Just seems a lot more messing around if it doesn’t make much difference in power.
I put the 88 gram adapter on and took out the restrictor and got 45 joules without the power kit, I agree with you it just seems redundant
12:25 I am with you 🤌
WE THE PEOPLE
Does this mod and kit only benefit the 7.5 j version then?
Can you do this upgrade to the 16joule version. I presume it’s the same apart from removing the plastic restricter? Thanks
The HDX kit is sold out but after looking at the HDS kit it seems to be the same kit, do you think it would fit the same since its basically the same system
I misspoke, I'm talking about the 16 possible shots of the rifle. With the modification the 16 shots are around 30 joules, or for example after the 10 th shots, we drop to 20 joules or less?, you understand better what I ask? because in the video you show the power, but just on the first 5 shots. thank you.
I'll be doing another video, shooting on my Range, when the weather gets better. Will see how much it drops off then.
@@Maddogairguns thanks you
3:40 that orange bit looks like an intestinal body part.
Al punto 13.50 la piccola parte non si deve più rimontare?
@@Maddogairguns Ah right, so the first shot is very high powered? Thanks for the reply!! Love the vids 😎👍

Yes expensive indeed!
I have a question the HDR 50 cal revolver 11 joules do you now that the fpt is without any more?
Hi thanks for video, i break the kit into the valve do you know where i can buy a new valve
This work destroy my brain 😂, very good entertainment, ty.
If you were to only remove the restrictions, what would the power be?
Does this shoot just as hard as the 40 J version that is set to come off the shelves? Trying to decide if i wanna get the 7 J and do this or just pre order and get the 40 J whenever they’re available to ship again
Nice quick n easy mod thanks 👍🏻
AWESOME VIDEO BRO !!!
Nice. I want to know if it's possible to fit an 88g Co2 cartridge instead of the 2 12g Co2 cartridges by removing the black tube at the back of the gun? It would be nice to know if the thread is already there for the 88g.
No, don't think the thread is there. The black tube goes further into the gun and joins up with the CO2 chamber.
Do you think umarex will send us the 88g valve housing as spare part?
My HDX energy was 9.2J by the way.
Same chrony same Rubberballs.
You could cut it down and glue a threaded Insert for the 88g capsule in the housing.
Hello, what did you do with the restriction brass part? Did you delete it?
Absolutely struggling to get the old power kit out, to replace it at the moment. Other than that this videos been great! I believe since mine is the 11 J version that with my power kit tuning it’ll get up to 30-40 joules. That’s the hope at least lol
If you put the 88 gram adapter on and take out the restrictor, that black plastic thing he took out of the air tube, you don't need the power kit. I did the 88 gram adapter and took out the restrictor and got 45 joules without the power kit
Thank you so much man
How much power do you get from a 16j converted
Hey, can you do a tuning tutorial for the Umarex Tm4 ris t4e .43 cal. ?

Hello I am French and I tried your method for unclamping but it turns out that in the end the part is not machined in the same way as your hdx 68 (see 14 minutes in your video) suddenly could not go to the end... Perhaps it is not exactly the same as your country? Then I reassembled the weapon but I can no longer bring the slide back wide for loading... It remains blocked... Is there something special to do during reassembly so that the loading takes place? normally ? Thanks for your help !
I'm in France and bought it here, you likely have the 16joule version. I have not seen the inside of those.
Is it possible to upgrade the 40joule version to get more power? Without switching to a HPA system? Is there a valve block or a restrictor you can tamper with?
BR
I have no experience with the 40 joule version, and they don't seem to work well with HPA, due to the size of the brass tube/port.
Wish you had shot all 16 rounds so we could see if there was a pressure drop near the end or not. Not much need to mod the gun if after a few shots the c02 drops and reduces the joules
is it worth it to put this mode to the 40 J version ,and what is the expected joule increase ?
Really good gun
OK it's good we managed to make the weapon work again, but the part where you removed the piece of black plastic in order to create a larger space is not the same on my 16 joules model... The we have the impression that they put an iron cilynder inside... In any case, it's not black like yours... It may be possible to come and enlarge the hole with a wick... . What do you think ? Thank you.
Just seen that you have resolved your issue. Yes being the 16joule version, it might be slightly different. You can enlarge the hole slightly, using a dremel or similar tool. Just make sure you can still screw the cap on and you don't weaken it too much.
@@Maddogairguns OK yes we will try to do... So we removed the very small piece for the moment the one at 13 minutes 40... And we changed the piece you are asking to buy... And we would like to know what's the point of changing that please? The role of this play.

HI guys, Just A quick one, just about to convert my HDX .68 with the PowerKIt up to 40 Joules, I live in the UK, where do I stand on Legal grounds as the info I have researched says that the legal limit here is 16?
Kind Regards JP.
The HDX68, in the UK is classed as an air rifle, due to the length of the barrel. So that is the reason the 16joule version is available. Legal limit in the UK for air rifles is 12ft lb, so any mods you do to a 16joule version will put you outside the law.
can we boost 40j version? I thinking about external gas bomb with regulator or something :)
Hi,what type of sparclettes do you use?
2x 12gr OR 1x 88gr after the modification ?
Only 2x12 will fit in the 7.5 and 16 joule version (or so I'm told) the 88g fits in the 40 joule, so I use 2x12.
