It's so interesting on how you got four legged combat to work, and Hooves are no joke, imagine having a mace for a hand... I don't think anyone would have a good day going melee with a pony.
To counter that, either punch a horse in the eye or in the neck, they hardly keep up with that and end up collapsing BTW I know this cause these are the most sensible places of a horse, and I learned it from a documentary
6 years later, still amazing. I love the thought and detail put into the still images, as we see the citizens of Canterlot fight for their home furiously, despite being utterly out numbered. You can feel the defiance in those images and I love them.

So, seeing that they are in danger, Derpy's motherly instincts kicked in to fight and defend her little one and close friend. So, this animation always gives me goosebumps cause it shows how much she loves her baby girl and her friend. Never mess with Mama Derpy 😅 Edit: I had to edit what I said, now knowing that the purple pony is Ditzy's babysitter. Sorry for the confusion 😅

Combat wise, she looks surprisingly smart... 1. She used her own ability to fly backward to her use. 2. She attacked a changeling from a high point of which he could snipe them with a surprise attack. 3. She uses her clumsiness as a power tool
This is genuinly more intresting than what the show gave us, we feel more of a threat from the invading forces and that not all just have the option to fight. I really love this one, well done.
I still come back to re-watch this and Octavia's video. Derpy's fighting style is forever ingrained in my memory, the animation here is amazing! Not to mention getting fighting with four legs to work so smoothly.
I never took notice of Derpy's eyes in this. She appears, briefly gives her iconic stare. Then her eyes narrow and become centered like a predator that has found it's prey.
This animation has always been one of my favorites because it shows that just because Ditsy has a disability, it doesn't mean she's weak or incapable of defending herself or her loved ones.
ehm no. Hate to steal that illusion but I think even if you only take the best fanworks its "just as good as the show". If I compare all fanworks (so even the bad ones) then i must say the show is a lot better it´s just that we are a lot more critical towards the show. They are profesionals so we expect them to at least be as good as most of the great fanstuff. If 2 min of an episode would be wasted with derpy kicking butt then it would only be fanservice ... and i dont want the show (like the most fanworks) to be pure fanservice

You know...These badass ponies got me thinking. All the adults of this mini-series seem to have amazing knowledge in close-combat, yet all the children/teens don't. You'd think there was some kind of war that happened a long time ago, when all the adults were young, that made them so good at fighting
I know it’s silly but the final kick at 1:36 has always been the single weightiest kick I’ve ever seen animated. Like out of every Kung fu show and anime I’ve seen that final down kick somehow always conveyed the most POW behind it. Just looks heavy as balls; I always love to see it.

AK47 Eason Id guess a wushu derivative, probably related to Zui Quan. her sloshing during the fight reminds me very much of it, but her technique is *considerably* more brutal than Zui Quan. notably, at no point in Zui Quan do you pin your opponent to th ground by their neck and punch them in the face hard enough to propel you both down the street.
This is damn great. Smooth animation, work with foreshortenings, movements ... This is almost perfect. The only drawback: this masterpiece quickly ended.
this video is so old, but i still come back and watch it every now and then. i just love the idea of the citizens of canterlot doing what they can to fight back instead of being helpless. the beginning is defo my favorite part.

that first bit is what the show needed, brief scenes of the general population fighting back as best they can. it doesn't even need to be very long, just one or two shots of people doing things other then running away or cowering.
every time I come back to this, it gives me chills. The animation is so beautiful, the storyboarding is dramatic and perfect to understand, and everything goes so well with the music. Thank you so much for making this- it's gorgeous ;v;

A little headcanon that I had when I watched that animation was: Rainbow and Derpy by the course of canon series seemed to be close friends, imagine if she teached derpy how to fight or just teached her a thing or two and derpy itself made a fighting style for her. She reminding everything that rainbow teached her like: use your flight as a suprise factor
If you think about it, Derpy would be extremely overpowered. Years worth of crashing into ponies and houses and everything would make her body near-literally impervious and durable, with inequine amounts of pain tolerance. Also, her job requiring her to carry everything from bed frames to freaking pianos would train her muscles to absurd degrees. Not to mention flying with vision impairment means her reflexes is extremely trained and ready to use during the rare focus moments which forces her eyes to align perfectly. I don't know about her martial art skills but even without any training she would have crazy OP build and foundations ready to be honed for battle.

that first bit is what the show needed, brief scenes of the general population fighting back as best they can. it doesn't even need to be very long, just one or two shots of people doing things other then running away or cowering.

A little headcanon that I had when I watched that animation was: Rainbow and Derpy by the course of canon series seemed to be close friends, imagine if she teached derpy how to fight or just teached her a thing or two and derpy itself made a fighting style for her. She reminding everything that rainbow teached her like: use your flight as a suprise factor

If you think about it, Derpy would be extremely overpowered. Years worth of crashing into ponies and houses and everything would make her body near-literally impervious and durable, with inequine amounts of pain tolerance. Also, her job requiring her to carry everything from bed frames to freaking pianos would train her muscles to absurd degrees. Not to mention flying with vision impairment means her reflexes is extremely trained and ready to use during the rare focus moments which forces her eyes to align perfectly. I don't know about her martial art skills but even without any training she would have crazy OP build and foundations ready to be honed for battle.
