He has a great point on younger generations not doing much with vintage equipment much now I’m only 15 but I am a member with a few clubs and I have 2 tractors and 2 mowers which I take to shows and older people love seeing younger people getting into old machinery
I grew up in Pennsylvania helping on a farm that was all CornBinder. Never saw one with front wheel assist, though. Several years ago while on Hawaii (Big) Island I saw an 856 with the FWA. Blew me away! He was mowing with it in the North Kohala district.
He did an outstanding job on that international 1256 tractor my grandfather had a international 806 and a 856 two work horses the 1256 was the biggest work horse of them all
we still have 2 of em one was a front wheel assist with a cab but it lost the cab in a fire and the front wheel assist was sold to someone else before we bought it almost new... we also have an 856 that my uncle is the original owner of... the 856 and one of the 1256 tractors are still used today... the other 1256 we have has a leak in the hydraulics and will be back on the farm when fixed...
Awesome tractor! My dad has a 1961 International Harvester Scout 80 with 4x4, 4 speed manual transmission and it has 21,000 original miles on it. Also it has a 6 foot Myer snow plow that came with the Scout when it was bought new. It was bought new by my great grandfather when he had a Pontiac and a International Harvester truck dealership in Rossville, Pennsylvania and all he used it for was to plowing his car dealership parking lot. My dad and I are going to restore it someday hopefully.
I really appreciate you showing us these awesome pieces of history and interviewing the awesome people who preserve them! I get all your video notifications and watch a few whenever I get a chance!
In 1966 a Ag. Contractor purchased a new 806 Farmall with the Coleman FWA this was set up like the wheatland with rear 3pt linkage and drawbar this tractor worked 24 hr days in 2 12 hour shifts when busy and it was a fantastic site seeing the black smoke when working hard, we have a photo somewhere of "THUNDER GUTS" but unable to locate it. What a great looking 1256. Best regards from NZ
At least in the top 5 of your videos. Maybe number 1. Real guy doing the work himself, very unusual tractor really done up great and a good delivery. I give it a 10!
my uncle bought one that went through a barn fire.. it was a 1256 fwd with a cab 3pt hitch single pto dual hydraulics.. when he bought it practically brand new but burned the dealer had sold the colman front fwd and i believe the cab was destroyed in the fire.. so now its a 2 wheel drive tractor without a cab and the 3pt has been removed. it is still a tractor that gets plenty use on the farm even now in 2019... i wish it still had the colman front end and the cab though.. talk about a collectable tractor if it did...
"Wonder what idiot put the 2nd gear in backwards" LOL Another Rare Beauty... That is nuts less 2 hrs on the machine!? Can't wait to see what it goes for at Auction when he does sell it.
Just thinking cosmetically the front rims should have a silver / colour ring as do the back? What say you? By no means is this meant as a criticism, the man deserves top honours for the most excellent restoration.
Is that 1.5 hours since the restoration, obviously. Wow, a tractor "Trailer King". I would love to put a few thousand hours on it pulling five bottoms in North Carolina clay. We could test her metal. We used to say red and more red makes green, meaning crops and money.
As a Friesian, I can tell you that the Zylstra name originates from the North of the Netherlands, Friesland to be precise. I have a '67 IH 624 from Germany. Solid well built gear.
I remember when I was younger, most farms ran I.H.power,then as time went by,quality of their equipment started going down hill, then in 1986,I.H.died due to complacency, since those days,GREEN has taken over those once RED farms,oh well.
@@interman7715 not according to everybody that I talk to,they put out junk by 1986 and swore up and down that their name would get them by on the product and it wound up failing miserably being the major cause of I.H. going under.
4 gauge We still have 50 series and 30 series working hard in our area ,still better than the crap Caseih is making these days.Btw it was IHCs management that was the problem and IHC spent 100s of millions in r and d getting the axial flow up and running as well as the new tractor series after the 50 series, that Case cashed in on . Which IHC products " failed miserably " ?
@@interman7715 All of them,my neighbor had the I.H.tech over so many times back then,he had them on first name basis including the kids...HAHA!!.(true story) Turbocharger failures, leaking seals, transmission failures,starter/flywheel issues etc.
I think in North America fwa means tractor like this IH. 4wd means articulated (like Steiger, Big Bud, etc) or 4 wheel steered (like Case traction king) large tractor with equal size wheels. In here Europe 4wd means all of those.
@@ThreeCRF john deere had hydraulic motors driving the front wheels on some of their tractors that was front wheel assist.thats a mechanical four wheel drive (mfwd) fitted to that 1256
Listening to those ole diesel tractors open up and run sounds so great, it’s music to my ears.
It’s always great to see people like this man restoring old equipment. Keeping it alive!
IHC was the heart and soul of America.

I'd kill to have a tractor like that to work with, much less just let barn mice enjoy it.
