- The QCX-mini from www.QRP-Labs.com is now finished. The last sep was to adjust the toroid coils by spreading and contracting the turns to gain a full 5 watts out. Nice little unit!

QCX-mini 20M gave me 7 Watts on a full charge of SLA battery as viewed on, and calculated from a Hameg 100MHz Oscilloscope. The QCX is certainly not shy of outputting advertised power. Note: ...it does take a LOT of spacing work to achieve that as Dave highlighted, but 5W is easily achievable.
👍Thanks for video Dave and glad you got it up to at least 5W. I reckon QCX receiver is very impressive and very nice to listen to. I still sometimes think that I have forgotten to connect the antenna, it's so quiet. Also, very sensitive. You do need to be careful though, as there is no AGC.
Danke!
I think that the ability to remove the display/control PCBs and still transmit/receive is an amazing design feature for setting up and fault finding.
Hi Dave,
Glad you were able to get the output power up to spec. Looks like you will have some fun with it. Stay safe. 73 WJ3U
All usefull info..started T1 today 73.
Be doubly careful with T1 and take your time!
BTW, those headphones are excellent, and replacement pads are available at Amazon. I use the same cans in a music production studio.
Great video David. Sure a nice QRP radio. I have built one for 40m.
Yup 40m here too..started today on T1 73
The BNC connector makes total sense for the portable QRP target market for the QCX. It's all but standard for those folks. It's not so unreasonable to expect someone running the QCX as a base station to toss an adapter on the cable :-).
Yes, BNC for QRP/P gets my vote. Don't want any humongous PL259/SO239s 😄.
@@Steve-GM0HUU and all the endless screwing and unscrewing!
Plus PL-259s are NOTOROUSLY LOSSY! I'm for BNC all around - get rid of the old PL-259!
Thanks for another great show. Now I have to build that kit. KD9HWH.
Something about a tiny, simple setup that is so much more enjoyable than a big radio. I put one of these together as well and really like this thing. I have a question, though, about the coils. I have mine putting out 3 watts at 13v. I dont really mind that power, but is it actually using less power or are the amplifiers still trying to put out the full 5 watts but getting attenuated?
Wife: what are you watching?
Me: KE0OG's latest video on this QRP radio build. See? [Shows wife phone screen as intro music plays]
Wife: [takes phone from my hand and watches rest of video]
Me: ["rewatching" video so I can actually see it] :)
:-)
You lucky rascal 👍🏼
Im just trying to figure out now which one of the 10 SMD IC's are dead... Yes, I have a revision 1 board.
Which band is most active for this guy? Thanks!
"A contest". Yes, Winter Field Day could be considered a contest.
Thank you, and take care of yourself. N0QFT
You can buy replacement ear pads for that headset and keep using it forever.
You don’t need to buy another set of 7506. You can get nice replacement cups on Amazon.
Thanks for the tip. I will do that.
Would be a good transceiver for a spy.
SHHH!!!
Those donut thingies Look very aggravating and annoying.
Ps what is a CW
CW stands for "continuous wave" and is a ham abbreviation for Morse Code.
Torroids..very rewarding to wind!!
