  • Today we have a U-Bass Duet of Bobby Hebb's "Sunny." One bass ukulele plays the melody, while the other is playing the bass line. This song modulates several times before reaching the end, which means it changes key several times. You can see the pattern move up one fret in each verse after the 2nd one. To simplify things, I did not add all of the melody variations that Bobby sings, but you can add your own variations if you would like. This song is a Patreon request for Margaret.

Great Video and Song. You Two Play Well Together. LOL. I like how you picked the Round Wounds for the melody, and the Flat Wounds for the Bass Line. That worked out well. I like this song.
2 things that are related to this channel but unrelated to this video.
    1) As I texted you last week, I did end up last Friday going to see Theo Katzman at the Variety Playhouse, in Atlanta and yes Joe Dart was on Bass. He was playing his Joe Dart 1 Music Man Sting Ray Bass this time. I have pictures of him and a Video of him that I will share with you via email of Joe Dart doing a Wicked Bass Solo (well I caught 80% of the solo as it turned into a Drum Solo) on the Theo Katzman song I put in the Hard Work. The video is like 1 and 1/2 minutes approximately. So keep an eye out for that in your inbox.
    2) No idea if you have been following anything from Nam this year for 20203, Especially from Kala and Ubass booth, But Kala is introducing this year, and I saw a short video of this from this year's Nam show posted by the Sweetwater Music Store on UA-cam, a New Solid Body Ubass that is typical Ubass short scale length. The Body shape is offset JBass style, and the Headstock looks the same as other Kala Solid (Like the California over $1,000 models) and Semi-Hollow Ubass, but the Pickups instead of being Piezo pickups are regular mid-placed Magnetic PBass pickups. Look it up. Comes in a Black with a white Pickguard, some Dark Red color with a white Pickguard, and some kind of Light Tobacco Burst with a White Pickguard (If I recall correctly). These Solid Body Ubases are not listed on Kala's website yet, but there are UA-cam videos on them from people who visited Nam like Sweetwater (as I mentioned I watched above) who will be carrying those bases once they become available this summer. No idea where they are made, or what stings come on them. In the Sweetwater Music Store short video, I saw a typical weird mashup of a Ukulele Bass and a Solid Body PBass. No idea who makes the magnetic PBass pickups, But the price was mentioned to be between $300 - $400 when available. So if you are interested in adding a PBass to your collection of Basses as you mentioned at one point it would be cool to own a PBass as well as a Jazz Bass, this may be just the ticket. You can say you are playing a Kala PBass Ubass. LOL. Plus since this would be a full solid body bass, like your Jazz Squire, you can use it in real gigs when appropriate LOL. There is no release date that I know of yet, but we'll see when they are released later this year, and appear in stores like Sweetwater and on Kala's actual website. - Once you look all this up and verify all this, any thoughts? Would this be something you might be interested in?
Otherwise, I hope all has been well, and since it is almost May, your 1st video in May, and your live stream for the 1st Thursday in May is not that far away whatever the theme is. I'll watch and participate then. In the meantime... Cheers 😀

I'm glad you got to go to the Theo + Joe show! I couldn't go, but would have loved to see it. As far as the new U-Basses, I saw a video or picture that Magnus posted. I will definitely be looking into those! I imagine only the metal strings will work due to the magnetic pickups, but I am still excited about them!
Thank you as always for watching these videos and sharing things like that concert with me. Cheers!
