I don't think he ever reached his potential as a performer. I feel he was still growing as an artist. I used to listen to stories of him and Geno on the road. They let me sang background with them backstage before their performances. Willie would then go on stage and tell the audience about it! Lol, I was super shy and embarrassed, but it was his encouragement that powered me to be a singer. They believed in me. I wanna thank them both today. Geno and Willie, my heroes, thank you for your love, support and kindness. I will never forget you both. Rest easy, my old friends.😢❤ 🙏

I 💖 many of the great Quartet Gospel Groups there are really no words to really say it clearly but that they were God sent, an thoroughly enjoyed even today, but Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes has to be my favorite since I was a little girl cause they didn't seem to mind loving, and worshipping the LORD and I have always enjoyed that about this group, and Mr. Willie Neal Johnson I truly love and enjoy when ever he sings, not another like him, his kind is truly hard to come close to in gospel music today, a gift that is truly missed in 2022. But thank God for videos that you can go back and enjoy these legends still today. Sing on brother Willie Neal Johnson, sang on, in heaven now forever hope to join you there one day. I can listen to them all day, and my soul, and life is blessed, that's how you know when you've been sent by God, because even after you are long gone from here on earth, what you did then is still blessing lives today in 2022, thank you LO

Yes Willie was annointed, I called him a quartet singing sanctified preacher, that what he was. Had the pleasure of meeting him, in Chicago, where I live, at the Regal Theater, was so humble and kind, stood and talked to me outside of his bus, felt I had known him for years.

Thanks Devyn, really enjoyed these young men. About 3 of them was with Willie when he recorded The Country Boy Goes Home number two. The tenor singer was on keyboard in that recording.
Willie Neal, was one of the best gospel sanger we use to try to emulate him.He put his whole heart jn his ministry.
Yes he was.. he is Hosea , Smile E on the bass and Babyface on drums. In the back on the left the rhythm guitarist played often... his dad was with Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC 's and that's Doc on the other guitar who was part of the New Keynotes , and you have Sweets on the keyboard.
Have always loved Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes every since my grandmother used to take me and my sisters to Gospel concerts. I'll never forget him coming to Alabama in the 80's when I was a young girl. It seemed as if his voice stayed the same when I got grown. He was truly a blessing.

Hey Nunu Love, these guy's weren't just back up. The bass player, drummer, and keyboard player who sang what Paul or Robert would sing were actually a part of the Keynotes. And the guitar player that did the solo played with him often...his father was a part of Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC 's. And of course you have Kenneth Earl or Doc who was also with him with the New Keynotes and he also played with The Truthette's when they first started out. The bass player started with Willie when he was 14... Paul brought him on board when he first went back with Willie . He is truly truly missed. There will never be another Willie Neal Johnson.
