Honestly, now it is very difficult for the Jays to make it over the hump after the season they had, and the missing out on this signing. Let see how it goes. It's no one's fault, but always spend more time with family and friends.

No one with a brain thought this was ever going to happen. Frankly I'm amazed someone in the media didn't call BS on this right from the start. He got 10 years and 700 yes 700 million. HE WAS NEVER GOING TO BE A BLUE JAY, period. This team is an also ran in baseball in the east. Too many other great places to go and make a fortune. They are also going make the single biggest mistake with Vladdy. He is the next Prince Fielder. Too much weight, which he won't curb.

I had been saying on UA-cam videos for weeks that the Dodgers would offer more money, more consistent contending, better weather, and a bigger market. And all sorts of Blue Jays fans, living on hopes and dreams, kept arguing with me. The Dodgers were always the clear favourites to sign Ohtani and reality is showing that now.

Does anyone else sense that the LADs have just been majorly played by the SO agent team? The day-1 thinking was always that SO was going to the LADs for about $500m. But suddenly the BJs (and and maybe Giants and Cubs) are "serious contenders", and low & behold the LADs sign him for $700m. He was always going to the LADs, the only issue was for how much. Contract negotiation 101.

My 2 cents, I think he had an open mind and the price would have been much closer to 500 if he had opt outs. I thought for sure there would be an opt out after ‘25 in case he re-established his pitching by then. I believe the extra $$$ was added to “buy out” any opt outs.

I have been following Shohei Ohtani since he was in high school and he is a straight and pure guy, not concerned about money at all.
He didn't spend $1000 a month to become a professional baseball player in Japan, he doesn't care about clothes or cars, and then he kicked a major league contract and big money signing bonus if he had waited two more years to join MLB. And even though his salary was down from $2 million to $500,000 a year.
Therefore, it is hard to believe that he used the Blue Jays to fish up his salary.
However, I would like to know why the Blue Jays were the finalists and eventually chose the Dodgers.
I wanted to see Ohtani's Blue Jays uniform.

They got so fixated on Ohtani, that they had to know with all the behind-the-scenes talks that they weren't the front-runner, and should have had a group working on Soto at the same time. They need to be way more agile if they want to contend. Now they have Soto in the division, they lose out on Ohtani (can't really be shocked) and now will have to over-pay to fill much-needed roster spots before they start the season. It's going to be a sour fan-base based on the past calendar year...and NOTHING will pacify losing on these marque FA's.

No player is worth that type of money. He’s treated like a god, but is only human. Yes, Ohtani is a great player, but he has yet to win the big prize. Remember Kawhi Leonard.? After leaving Toronto he hasn’t won anything yet. Same with Ohtani. They had a good team in the Angels, but didn’t even make the playoffs. Look at Tampa how they win every year with a collection of above average players and small payroll. The Dodgers got better on offence but won’t have his pitching next year. If they fail to win, that’s a lot of money wasted. The Dodgers have 10 years to learn if the investment was worth it. Only time will tell.

Toronto? Nope. AND they stand a better chance of getting to the post season and winning it all, having won it all as recent as 2020, I believe it was.

Did you you know the Blue Jays own the Rogers Centre, but not the land (12.17 acres) on which it sits? The Dodgers have much deeper pockets, and own the Stadium and the land in Chavez Ravine - everything - thanks to Walter O'Malley when he moved the franchise out of Brooklyn in 1958.
Toronto is farther behind than you think, and they're handicapped by the US exchange rate where the CAD dollar currently sits at .74 USD. That's huge.
