- Experimental aerobatic glider. Part One
After a request for advice on the angelwingdesigns Facebook group

about what people would like to see the choice was
1. Aerobatic
2 .Portable
3. Balsa
4. sub 1 metre
If you give a glue-stuck pin a slight twist before pulling it, it'll usually come out without bringing half the model with it. 🙂
Hay Nick, I've actually cut ailerons into my pug wing. I'm not pleased with it now because I've used very small servos and they double center something horrible. I will be replacing them with the 5 gram servos from anglewings as soon as they're back in stock. Also look into offsetting the servo center on your DLG wing for way more downward travel than up... for the flaps.
suggestion when cutting thru foam..........make some kind of depth stop on the blade so the blade wont cut down to the table and will stop cutting at a certain depth...........good idea on the foam ribs tho//////////👍👍👍
I love all of your gliders ❤
Thanks I actually think this could be special but I could be delusional
@@NickChittyFlying no no, I love your approach to various problem they present how you revolve it🤙
@@nandostella9734 thanks 😍😍
Always nice to see you in your work shed 🤗🤙🏻🥂
I tell myself it’s a cabin but you are right it is a shed full off stuff I love ❤️😍😂
@@NickChittyFlying cabin is fine four me,🤗🫶🏻my dad had a shed for his rc planes back in the 70' but we are in Italy sice early 80' so this is my English sice I was a kid 😅🤗🤙
@@icaroluca41 it’s good mate 👌
Cool stuff, Nick!
Thanks wish I could play my baritone ukulele as well as I can build 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I know practice 😍
I had been thinking of making a 'MadSlide' aerobatic glider (Benoit Paysant-Le Roux). Your very timely video gives me new hope of making in mini version from XPS. Brilliant build video. I look forward to watching the maiden flight.
It was more than I could ever hope for 😍
@@NickChittyFlying Sorry for the supplementary question, Nick, but is your 3mm foam sheet the same as the Diall Polystyrene pack from B&Q?
@@richardo212 yes mate and I am sure you are right polystyrene more than depron but it comes in 3mm 6 mm 9 mm sheets in a pack Uhu por is perfect
@@NickChittyFlying Many thanks. RIchard
Come for the entertainment, and always end up learning something new .. to me.
VTPR, or “Voltige Très Près du Relief” in French means “aerobatics very close to the ground”
Before a VTPR definition search, was going to suggest that could save some effort by making the wings twisties, aka pitcheron, so no need to make span length cuts and adding extra depron.
To remove the clamp marks, might try using a damp cloth with a film covering iron. This technique works well with EPP, but not sure with depron. At least it would give more control than pouring hot water.
I did exactly that it worked so well it’s worthy of a video 😍 cos that how I straighten the Lidl wing
Interestingly I did consider twisty wing but ailerons give advantage of changing the wing section and this might be a long project with these easterly winds 🤪
Interesting video, but I'm puzzled by one thing - that two template rib method only works (in my head) on straight tapered wings. How did you do the ribs for the curved wing?
13:16 - It looks like that aerofoil is upside-down. Is it? 🤔
All I can confirm is both wings flew bloody brilliantly today on 20 mph 😍
👌👌👍👍
Nick, what sheet material are you using, Depron? Do you like it?
Thanks,
Having trouble sourcing sheeting here in NY....
Yes mate 3mm sheet from local hardware store. I really like and sands nicely. I am using Uhu por glue
BnQ sell 3mm Depron? I'll have to check that out. What do they sell it as?
Diall polystyrene sheet packs 3-6-9 mm

@@NickChittyFlying Thanks.
@@ColinWatters Uhu por works great on it
Bigger is better for French style VTPR which emphasizes slow and low maneuvers. Most models are 2.5m Good to see your project nick
The specs are a poll run in the group I am sure it will get enlarged 😍
