    I have a question. Will the standard general purpose filter seperate water as well? Or do you have to buy the watwr block filter? i do not like the idea of my filter getting clogged with water. i just want a water seperating filter where the water falls to the bottom of the bowl and it drains out.

      Thanks for your question! The standard 495 fuel tank filter will not separate water from your fuel. If you need to remove water from your fuel, you must use a 496 Water-Block fuel tank filter.

    What fitting do I use to set up both the 495 and 496?

    Okay so I got a L transfer tank bought it used has some fuel still in it. I would like water separated and micron filter. Would that require 2 set ups or is the water separator and micron a 1 in all

      Thanks for your question! The Goldenrod 496 Water-Block fuel tank filters remove from fuel both water and particles down to 17 microns. The standard 495 fuel tank filters have a 10 micron rating, so it is up to you if 17 microns is small enough for you. If it is, you can just install a 496 filter, or you can install a 495 and a 496 side-by-side to remove water and particles down to 10 microns.

    Does the 495 remove any water?

    • @DuttonLainson
      @DuttonLainson  3 роки тому

      Thanks for your question, but no- our standard fuel tank filters (495, 495-3/4, 595, and 595-3/4) do not remove water from fuel like our Water-Block models (496, 496-3/4, 596, and 596-3/4) do. If you need to remove water from your fuel, you can use just a Water-Block model, or a Water-Block model installed after a standard model (as you can see at the 15 second mark of this video).

    hello I just installed a complete set of filter with a 496 cartridge on a barrel by degradation but the problem the output flow is really low. thank you

      Thanks for reaching out! There could be many explanations as to why your fuel flow is restricted shortly after installing a 496 fuel tank filter-
      1.) Your filter could already be saturated if there was a lot of water in your fuel. Because water is heavier than fuel, it will be the first thing to come out of your tank if it has been sitting idle for very long. Once the filter absorbs its capacity of water (approximately 1/2 cup), the fuel flow slows down, so it's always good to keep a 496-5 element on hand to replace it.
      2.) Your fuel was very dirty so the filter could be plugged.
      3.) You may not have enough head pressure- gravity flow rate for the 496 filter is approximately 5 gpm with a 24" head.
      4.) Your tank isn't vented.
      5.) You have an obstruction somewhere in your fuel line.

    Will a 495 and a 496 work in the same housing

    • @DuttonLainson

      Thanks for your question! Yes, the 470-5 (standard fuel tank filter element) and the 496-5 (Water-Block fuel tank filter element) both use the same bowls and top caps.

      I have the 495 on my tank gonna at a 496 does it make any difference which one is first on my pump

    • @DuttonLainson

      @@TOMBOY43599 We recommend putting the 495 fuel tank filter first (closer to your pump) to remove the smallest particles, followed by the 496 fuel tank filter to remove the water.

    I bought a brand new 496 Water Block filter to separate water from vacuum pump oil. The oil leaks out of the top even with the gasket present and installed properly making a big oily mess. Very disappointed.

      @DuttonLainson  5 років тому +1

      We are sorry to hear about the problem you are having with a 496 fuel tank filter! While we don't have any experience filtering vacuum pump oil with our fuel tank filters, it is on the high end of the viscosity level that they can tolerate. Check to see if your gasket is seated at the top of the bowl correctly and if the bowl can be tightened a bit more to get a stronger seal with the top cap. If neither of these appear to be an issue, please contact us at marketing [at] dutton-lainson [dot] com and we would be happy to send you a free replacement.

    You don't use galvanized pipe fittings in the plumbing of these. Galvanized piping is BAD as it has a chemical reaction with diesel fuel. Read up on it. Never say never that a pump assembled for gasoline will never be used for diesel fuel.
    generators.blogs.com/fgwservice/2006/08/never_use_galva.html
    Diesel fuel dissolves the zinc coating and forms a solution that contaminates the fuel supply.
    This contaminated fuel will inevitably ends up in the engine’s fuel pump and/or injectors.
    One cannot assume this solution will be completely filtered out.
    Premature failure will be imminent, if allowed to reach the engine’s internal components.
    We recommend black iron, steel or copper piping and storage tanks in order to avert this.
