Some tips: 1. Start with tiny drill bits. They drill easier, deform less, and let you work your way up to the prescribed size of hole. 2. caulk the mating surfaces of the door (inside and outside) before installation, then clean or remove as needed after it cures. You'll get a MUCH better searl. 3. Put a camera on that from the inside. Who knows what (or who) will come through that passage now into your garage, and you'll want to know. It doesn't stop smells (or camera phones in a hand). So if vermine of one the two or four legged variatles get curious about whats on the other side, you will know about it.
You should put the thru bolts on the outside and screw it from the inside to be more secure. You can also use white silicone caulk ahead of time for a better seal.
I have stray cats I’ve been caring for. I left on vaca and i felt horrible. I always leave my garage door about 6-8” cracked when I’m home. Got back and this is my mission for them lol
That’s why I really started the journey of installing this door. We had left our 2-3 cats outside while on vacation and we worried about their safety the whole time we were gone…
Great video. Like the cat encouraging you early, the "hope to God it fits" confidence (just like my own) and the cat endorsement at the end. Anything you would have done different since you installed it?
Ha. I just want to do real videos with real results! I would have been totally pissed if I had screwed up my garage door. No, nothing different. It worked out great for the cats...
Oh I'm about to buy one of these but I'm nervous about the depth. We have double insulated garage doors. Do you? Or do you think these will work on insulated garage doors?
@@Rylan_Got_Rizz Mine is an insulated Garage Door and if I remember right, the packaging will show the max depth it can go on a door. Mine had plenty of extra room from what I remember. I think it should be fine, but check the packaging for max depth. Good Luck! Let me know how it turned out!
question: when the garage door is raised to the full open position (door is horizontal) does the petsafe flap remain closed by the magnetic strip or does it hang open? I did one of these on a steel external door but now I need to get one on the garage and was hesitating for that reason.
It actually comes “undone” and hangs down a little bit. I will try to send a photo. Looks like the magnet is not that super strong. But, until you asked I never noticed.
Is some girl going to get stuck in it again like an idiot, trying to escape a masked killer, and the masked killer eventually crushes her by opening the electronic garage door? Yes, I saw that movie made in 1996 too.
Lol the fact that you said “DYI’er,” tells me your not much of a DIY’er. But that’s okay! Thanks for the video. I’ve been on the edge about getting one for our garage door rather than leaving it cracked open like I have been doing for years. Just been kinda weary about cutting a hole in my garage door. But, leaving it cracked really aggravates me during the winter months. After watching this, I think I’ll just bite the bullet and install one. Thanks again! 👍
I’d be concerned with neighbors cats and rodents coming in my garage. They both been there before leaving scent or marking and hunting food (rat found the bird food bag).
Thanks so much for this helpful video. Your kitty looks a lot like ours! So sweet.

Thanks for the video, what model petsafe door did you use? There are so many options on their website.
I just saw this comment! So sorry it took so long. It was a Aluminum Pet Door, size medium, 1lb - 40 lb. Model HPA11-11599

EXCELLENT!
Where did you get the door?
If I remember right, it was at Petco.

This video lets me know if this guy can do it anyone can lmao
Cory Shaw you have that right!
Comments like these are a reminder not to let assholes make you feel bad. Rude loser.
Is that cat door fire rated? It's illegal to put a non fire rated door on a fire rated garage.
Lol, exterior garage doors are not fire rated.
