From around 10:00, Geiko and Maiko in Gion visit their teachers, and others to thank them.
They bring kagami-mochi （symmetrical rice cake for New Year’s ） to their teachers.
日本らしさが残る美しい習慣、美しい振る舞いに、感動しました。

冬は極寒、夏は酷暑の京都で、事始めの時も８月の八朔の時も芸舞妓さん達は同じようなお召し物で涼やかな笑顔を浮かべて挨拶回りをなさっている。（ように私には見える。）舞踊や音曲や立ち居振る舞いの訓練だけでもむろん大変な日々だが、私にはこの「暑い寒いを一切顔に表わさない」振る舞いの訓練こそが最も過酷なのでは、といつも感心するばかりです。

・・・人の出入りを見ているだけで、絵になる・・・。日本って、いいな・・・。

OMG～💖 着物の美しさに目を奪われがちですけど、立ち居振る舞いが伴って美しく見えると思いました。
扇子を取り出してのご挨拶も何か意味があるのでしょうけど美しい仕草ですね。
だからこそ笑顔からは想像も出来ない厳しい修行・習慣を守られて現在まで残っているって、素晴らしいです✨
撮影してる方たちが邪魔にならないようにしてる姿はグッドです＾＾

私も、舞妓さんや芸妓さんの優雅な立ち居振る舞いにいつもながら感動いたしました。カメラのモニターを眺めつつ、直接拝見したいと思い何度もモニターから目を離してしまいました。お店出しの時に引き続き和気あいあいとした雰囲気でございました。またベテランのカメラマンさんとお喋りする機会などもいただき様々な知識をご教示いただきました。とても楽しい一日でした！！

貴重な動画をありがとうございます 現在継承されている花街の中でも大規模ながらの風習ですね これだけの芸舞妓さんのよそ行きのそんなり姿を拝見できるのもこの日ならでは。着物好きにはたまりません。祇園町の舞妓さんはどちらかと言うと町娘風の古典柄の小紋に織か染めの帯、ゑり萬の帯とか、すごく参考になりました。芸妓さんに復帰されたまめ藤さんも映っていらしてあら～と思いながら楽しく拝見いたしました。

地域や時代背景、多忙な社会など様々な理由はあるのでしょうけど、事始めという歳事をすでに日本人の多くが忘れてしまってますよね。自分も言葉自体は何となく聞いた事がある程度でその意味や中身についてはまったく知りませんでした。
こういう古くからある日本の歳事も祇園の方々は今もきちんと継承しているのですね。
時代と共に日本の名工や名人と呼ばれる高度な技術を持った方達も次世代を継承する人間が居ないが為に、その技術そのものが消えていっている中にあって、祇園の芸舞妓さんやそれに携わる方達はやはり稀少な存在。
古き善き日本の伝統と習慣を守る意味でも、祇園の方達にはこれからも頑張って頂きたいです。
今回も素晴らしい動画をありがとうございました。
現代人からは「古い」「意味ない」で片づけられそうで悲しいです。今事始めは自分が知ってる限りでは花街とヤクザぐらいしかやってない（その他伝統文化の業界もやってるかもしれません）です。

Ookini Anna for posting this. How'd you manage to get into the Inoue studio? It's great seeing the geimaiko, especially giggling Mameharu, in such a relaxed atmosphere. Yachio V looks wonderful and has such a good rapport with the girls. Thanks again for sharing this enjoyable video. Looking forward to shigyoshiki (with Satsuki san hopefully being Number One again) and hatsuyori.

The first geiko who walked out of her okiya with her maiko younger sister behind..was so cute. How are the hanamachi faring during the pandemic though? Wish they had a website saying who's who in the geiko world now cause I dont know anyone lol

I hope Japan keeps supporting this; both the women and the customers. This is not just for itself, but is a very large 'canary in the coal mine' for Japanese traditions. If this culture dies, everything else Japanese is in danger also. I hope the government has a policy to encourage its existence to continue. If Japanese culture faded, it would be like the Egyptian pyramids had been bulldozed.

今回は４花街お廻りなされて秒刻みの行動だったのでは？
編集など今までとは違った感じで，移動撮影では不思議な感じがしました．
先斗町の姉さん衆は先斗町の小路に映えますね．
どういうわけか各花街色がでますね．
秀好ちゃん見せ出ししたと思ったら，事始めで忙しい日々ですね．

今回は5花街を撮影するつもりでしたが、上七軒までは廻れず残念でした。
なかなか、細い通りでの移動撮影は難しいのですが四条通り周辺などは道が広いので動きながらカメラをまわすことができました！！

I read that taking picture of geiko Maiko without their permission is no longer allowed. Obviously that news was not true.
I wish it is true. Those guys / photos takers ( I don’t believe they are professional photographers), are too much, too close, too greedy !
I think that's for tourists, isn't it? I think these people taking pictures are from news outlet and channels because isn't it usually whenever there's a formal ceremony/event the news people are always lined up for the geisha like this?
There is indeed a ban in Gion, but there seems to be an (unwritten/no consequence yet) exception during debuts and special occasions. Usually these greetings are also done not during the evening when it used to be extremely busy with tourists. The video and photographers shown here are mainly locals who are not 1 day flyers. You dont see them (being this close) on a normal day, like tourists. Or even Some also book group photosessions with specific maikos ans geikos thats why you occasionally see them greeting each other. If they are shooting on a normal day they used to stand on a corner, out of the way, not following them and specific lenses were used to shoot from a far. There used to be a lovely local photographer at the corner of the famous ichiriki chaya almost everyday. He made sure that tourists followed the rules of no selfies. Gave heads up to me when he noticed someone was close by and even pointed to me I accidentally shot the no. 1 ranking geiko (in normal kimono and plain makeup).
Its only during these 2 events (year end and new year greetings) the local photographers come in droves. And due to the small roads and many photographers they come this close. But they do try to stay a certain distance where possible. Still compared to tourists they behave alot more respectable and there is a mutual acceptance of each other, thats why you see them nodding and greeting them. Its really not done to photograph the geimaikos during normal working hours as often they are accompanied with the clients whom dont want to be photographed (thats why many use taxis now), so they understand during debuts and greeting the photographers snap alot of photos and why they walk mainly by foot. Some are dining clients, soms do private or groupphoto sessions. New debuts need to start building clientele and extra appointments with photographers who are already affiliated with their okiya is still business. Or a maiko can be not as popular as some others for dinner events, but very popular for photosessions with these photographers. They do private sessions with x amount of photographers who arent affiliated with a okiya (it costs alot to be a continuous member) and it does boost the maikos reputation.

stopping a geiko or maiko for a photo is not allowed unless you know them personally. open gatherings special events like these, it's allowed.
