I completely agree. Not cheap but if you kept one in a Cabin it could be years but it won’t she like other gear. I think the small one is very popular for trekkers with satellite phones. Very dependable.
Harbor Freight Solar Panels and 1 battery would cost less then the pedal power. That would give you 100 watts approximately of energy with no pedaling.
@@vismike Take a look at the Harbor Freight Solar kit. It has 4 25watt panels, cables and a 30amp charge controller with USB outlets. If you have the older charge controller it has two 12volt outlets as well as USB. On a sale you can get this kit for about 150 add a single battery from HF for 80 and you have a comparable system to what you have here for 230 dollars. With more power output then 1 or 3 amps. Granted it isn't as portable but... And these panels will work even if there is cloud over.
As a bonus for members, these should monitor your wattage stored and discount your membership as they will use the energy created to feed back into the gym.
these things produce extremely little amounts of power. the bigger unit here was rated for 50 watts. a hairdryer for example uses about 1500 watts. so you would need 30 people running these simultaneously to power a simple hairdryer.

Ive got the ktor power box 20. It has a 3pin 120v outlet and you can plug a wall extension into it and charge several cell phones. I have a power bank that can then charge a laptop and the powerbox can charge that too. Its a lot of work though for enough to then charge the laptop. Also can run a lamp straight through just the pedalling action. If you wanted to charge a 12v battery, it needs an actual battery charger that you can plug into it. I made a box like the one they use in their website and it does help with the angle of pedalling.
Ive done a review on the smaller one and really enjoyed it suprisely. They did a lot for the island of PR after maria. Not my favorite (or easiest) way to make power but definitely great if its all you have
Love it the pedal one exercising while charging your phone honestly would use it even if i had an outlet, the small one may be nice but I seen on UA-cam a review of one that makes more sense instead of hand cranking you are twirling it as it is a handle with weight on the end allowing centrifugal force to do most of the work. Problem is the price of those two you shown is probably up in cost. I be interested in other such reviews of similar items

One thing I'm noticing more and more is items like this where you have to physically do something to make Power or your starting to see more stores carry solar panels portable solar panels that will charge batteries because lately some states have been having blackouts and if you're going to need power this is the option

Yes. You can plug this into the device. When you crank, it will send energy to the power bank you are storing energy to. Then your power bank will be charged - but how much is unknown, unless it has a percentage readout.
For the smaller model you said it had charge about a percent of your phone in a minute but I don't think you said for the larger model. I'm curious what it was. I'm UK based and looking to buy something similar before our electricity bill sky rockets. Mainly going to be using it to charge a phone as screens arent very energy efficient so where I can I want to replace them with my phone and if I charge it using one of these then I will save any power I wouldve used on that too
Definitely less work, and reliable but not for some situations. If you have a cabin and you want a backup that can sit for months, even years with no maintenance for an absolutely backup this is it. Or traveling abroad, batteries in small devices can fail. . This kind of takes it to another level but if I was hiking or camping long term I would absolutely take a small one of these with me, as a backup.
Why don't they just make a generator that is driven by a pedal bike. They already make bike trainer stands, shouldn't take to much to adapt a generator.
I felt the same but I think they did it more for durability, if you get dirt in a cigarette plug you can clean it. usb port not so much. A lot of these are used abroad and those usb plug in adapters are really cheap and replaceable if they get ruined.
1 percent per minute means about 1 and a half hour of turning the hand crank of K-TOR Pocket Socket. If my phone battery is about 3000 mAh, and the pocket socket is 1 Ah, I will need about 3 hours of turning the crank to fill the battery.
This is kind of off. You measure the voltage in the lawn mower battery but we see a slight increase how long does it take to get it to 13 volts? The disclaimer is given enough time, how much ? Can we see a shot of the fan directly plugged into the generator and say have someone pedal for ten min or so? It would be nice to show a chart on how much time it takes to charge a dead cell phone , tablet or battery to full charge.
It's not a disclaimer, it's being honest. It depends on the capacity of the battery and to some degree the speed and intensity of pedaling and what state the battery is in to start. It could be minutes or hours, but if you are in a situation that this is the only option it won't matter much. As far as the fan, it will run as long as you pedal and thats a very small load. For iphones and others again it depends on the model and battery, but this is going to be to get you power to get through a situation.

A product that costs an entire home's worth of electricity for 3 months and produces like $1 worth of electricity every hour of manual labor... yeah I feel like this only appeals to doomsday preppers. @Franca Wong Actually it is, a guy from Serbia, same country where Nikola Tesla origins from (this u might've didn't know as well) did what u called impossible with a simple bicycle, which he of course tampered with and ingeniously made (your so called impossible) possible, by turning that bike in a generator (as you might come across these days), simply by pedaling the bike a few hours a day he made it "possible" to get free electricity for his home. This was on national TV back in 2010-11. And i guarantee u that many other people have done the same or even similar thing like this Serbian man did so stop being so ignorant and ask yourself if u are sure in something before u run off and just say it. (I will not say that its your fault, nor that its not your fault you didn't know this because you're too lazy to ask questions or too afraid that someone with the same mindset as yours might put you down if you do, like you did to the guy that asked something earlier). So woman, simply "GOOGLE IT" if you are not 100% sure in something, it doesn't require that much brain cells to just type something in the search bar. And to the guy asking why ppl dont already do this, simply because most ppl dont know how to do it, it requires time to learn something and time to do it, so its easier for you as well to pay a small amount of money to a company that has machines that produce electricity for billions of people to just hook u up with a bill without u breaking a sweat to figure out how it works or in this case to pedal for hours to get it for free. Also if companies start mass production of self sustainable power generators of a kind, the people that charge other people for power will go bankrupt (it's a chain reaction from there, think about it logically), because of the money they invested in making it work to be as simple as a bill at the end of the month. Simple business, supply and demand (but if ppl dont demand any more of your products (you sold them an infinite way to make power) that means your business wont last that long and it might turn up for your business to run bankrupt and end in you losing your investment in starting it, (so if you hold them depending upon your supplies, you will always have demand )THATS WHAT BUSINESS is all about.

U say basic math, i say get a book and start reading or in your case watch a tutorial because you probably dont know how to read (its impossible to gain knowledge simply by looking at letters all day right) And therefore if u knew how to read you wont be throwing around numbers of how much electricity can a cyclist produce (which cannot be calculated accurate because with using a different method of acquiring that info a cyclist (you dont need to be a cyclist to ride a bike) can produce a lot more than your 0.02kwh simply by having a different setup (by building the coil differently, and by using KNOWLEDGE - rare stuff) you can simply multiply the amount of power generated in 2minutes (as you have said). Fun fact for you! If we use your logical thinking (plus doing math at the same time so we dont end up being idiots like me and a humongous amount of ppl (normal ppl, professors, scientists, even children in schools)) than we can say that the "Peel P50" (slowest car in the world) will have the same horsepower and can reach the same speed in an hour as the "SSC Tuatara" (the fastest car in the world) simply by being driven by the same man, or (lets widen the circle) simply by being driven by professional racecar drivers, WHEN THEY HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT AND TYPE OF FUEL IN THEIR FUEL TANKS. From this example we can say that even if the engine is far superior than the other one, it wouldn't make any difference at all, just because you have calculated that the "Peel P50" has an engine that had a max of 60km/h top speed, NO OTHER ENGINE CAN EVER REACH HIGHER SPEEDS NO MATTER HOW YOU DRIVE OR WHO'S DRIVING. (to avoid confusion let's say that every engine has and can have the same kind and amount of fuel) So (lets go back to our original dilemma) what we have concluded is that no matter what changes i or someone else does to the bike (the one on which your average cyclist can only make 0.02kwh) there would be no way of increasing the amount of power being made, (i will say it once more) no matter what changes are made, no matter at all, the top power it can make and electricity produce would always be the same as from the experiment where from you gathered the informations from. @Franca Wong Why are you so ignorant, I've seen it being done in person, I've never made a homemade generator but i will, (this is easy to understand what are u now getting here) you continue to go back to the pedal one. The way it works is that the pedals u see in the video have a small coil inbetween them, (the one u can get from an electric motor) within the box from which the pedals come out from and that one doesn't have batteries as u can see, nor it has the capacity or size to power a house. The power that its making is so small, simply because it is a cheap design, because if it was an expensive one majority of the ppl or buyers wouldn't buy it as much compared to if it was portable and cheap. The bigger the electric motor in between, that spins when u move the two pedals continuously, thanks to the magnets around it produce what u call electricity (thats simply said, the process would take terms to explain that i may misspell, but i have said it simpler and clearer already, so no need for me to explain some school grade electric classes in a comment when u can simply look it up on the net). To power a house u need an electric motor, (you can extract it from almost any electric machine nowadays) and by simply 30minute rewiring tops you can be almost at half the way, next u have the batteries, that u will need to store the excess power u make in the at some point in the day, next to that u will need other kinds of electrical supplies to finish and multiply the power outage of your homemade generator (now those will cost u plenty, next to the batteries that will have a weight on your wallet as well). What u now need is to correctly assemble all of those in order to avoid malfunction or best in the worst to avoid getting smaller power production from your build. I'm once more assuring you that it's possible to make a bike powered generator, like i have said i have already seen it being done and seen it work, problem is not many people know how to do it, and because of that u say its impossible, simply because you haven't seen the people in your circle on which your ego is dependable on do it and you say it's impossible. (ex. When u see and touch water u don't get electrocuted, but how is it then that thank to that same water u have electricity at your house (now this is completely different from what your dilemma is at but is it) now centuries ago people didn't have electricity because they didn't KNOW how to aquire it from that same water)- you would call that impossible as well. You simply cannot call everything you dont understand impossible. Look up free electricity on the net and u will get what i tried explaining to you, u probably had a class about it in school but i kinda think you were more into staring out from the window type of kid, so your not knowing simple stuff doesn't surprise me.
You can buy a pretty good generator for $400 and a nice big power bank for $70. Yes there disadvantages to those but if your prepared you will do way better than cranking on those. Imho...
If Im in an emergency situation, I got better things to do than pedal a friggin stationary bike. In fact, arguably in an emergency your time is your most valuable asset.
I think if I did a review of this I would just charge the battery to full so I could tell people actually how long it takes instead of being like yea it could do it. It would set my review above the rest and all it would take is some pedalling.
This is a really cool Idea, but the execution needs work, I have a hand crank flashlight, it is very dim and turns off quickly when you stop, you will Never be able to charge a phone this way its just too slow and time consuming. There has to be a better way to convert your energy into wattage. Perhaps the gearing on the pedal generator could be altered to spin the alternator faster, or maybe a capacitor system that can store the charge and feed it into the battery over a longer period. If you think about how quickly a car alternator brings your battery voltage from 12 to 14 volts in an instant, I see potential
There are actually a tonne of adaptors for that type of port. You can get one that converts the port into a wall outlet. Food for thought, they'd probably work with the goal zero batteries, then you've got a way of storing that energy. I imagine that'd give you more options too considering the amount of outputs on their batteries. You can actually plug power banks into a goal zero battery and increase the capacity impressively. Can't wait for the 21st century version of the goal zero line, they're gonna change the world. I'd connect both use one by hand, one by foot, lol.

Rick developed a micro verse that had a micro verse in it. That mirror verse has another micro verse in it and that’s how his car battery works.
They should put such devices in gyms/homes etc around the world and help power cities.

For the price of the pedal one you could get a set of solar panels with 5 times the output. It costs way too much to make sense as a practical option.

If that battery were truly flat, it's going to take a lot longer than 10 minutes to get it charged enough to start the engine.

1 percent per minute means about 1 and a half hour of turning the hand crank of K-TOR Pocket Socket. If my phone battery is about 3000 mAh, and the pocket socket is 1 Ah, I will need about 3 hours of turning the crank to fill the battery.

This is kind of off. You measure the voltage in the lawn mower battery but we see a slight increase how long does it take to get it to 13 volts? The disclaimer is given enough time, how much ? Can we see a shot of the fan directly plugged into the generator and say have someone pedal for ten min or so? It would be nice to show a chart on how much time it takes to charge a dead cell phone , tablet or battery to full charge.
It's not a disclaimer, it's being honest. It depends on the capacity of the battery and to some degree the speed and intensity of pedaling and what state the battery is in to start. It could be minutes or hours, but if you are in a situation that this is the only option it won't matter much. As far as the fan, it will run as long as you pedal and thats a very small load. For iphones and others again it depends on the model and battery, but this is going to be to get you power to get through a situation.

A product that costs an entire home's worth of electricity for 3 months and produces like $1 worth of electricity every hour of manual labor... yeah I feel like this only appeals to doomsday preppers. There are much better means of producing off-grid power. I cant imagine the scenario where this really comes in handy at that price point

@Franca Wong Actually it is, a guy from Serbia, same country where Nikola Tesla origins from (this u might've didn't know as well) did what u called impossible with a simple bicycle, which he of course tampered with and ingeniously made (your so called impossible) possible, by turning that bike in a generator (as you might come across these days), simply by pedaling the bike a few hours a day he made it "possible" to get free electricity for his home. This was on national TV back in 2010-11. And i guarantee u that many other people have done the same or even similar thing like this Serbian man did so stop being so ignorant and ask yourself if u are sure in something before u run off and just say it. (I will not say that its your fault, nor that its not your fault you didn't know this because you're too lazy to ask questions or too afraid that someone with the same mindset as yours might put you down if you do, like you did to the guy that asked something earlier). So woman, simply "GOOGLE IT" if you are not 100% sure in something, it doesn't require that much brain cells to just type something in the search bar. And to the guy asking why ppl dont already do this, simply because most ppl dont know how to do it, it requires time to learn something and time to do it, so its easier for you as well to pay a small amount of money to a company that has machines that produce electricity for billions of people to just hook u up with a bill without u breaking a sweat to figure out how it works or in this case to pedal for hours to get it for free. Also if companies start mass production of self sustainable power generators of a kind, the people that charge other people for power will go bankrupt (it's a chain reaction from there, think about it logically), because of the money they invested in making it work to be as simple as a bill at the end of the month. Simple business, supply and demand (but if ppl dont demand any more of your products (you sold them an infinite way to make power) that means your business wont last that long and it might turn up for your business to run bankrupt and end in you losing your investment in starting it, (so if you hold them depending upon your supplies, you will always have demand )THATS WHAT BUSINESS is all about.

U say basic math, i say get a book and start reading or in your case watch a tutorial because you probably dont know how to read (its impossible to gain knowledge simply by looking at letters all day right) And therefore if u knew how to read you wont be throwing around numbers of how much electricity can a cyclist produce (which cannot be calculated accurate because with using a different method of acquiring that info a cyclist (you dont need to be a cyclist to ride a bike) can produce a lot more than your 0.02kwh simply by having a different setup (by building the coil differently, and by using KNOWLEDGE - rare stuff) you can simply multiply the amount of power generated in 2minutes (as you have said).
Fun fact for you! If we use your logical thinking (plus doing math at the same time so we dont end up being idiots like me and a humongous amount of ppl (normal ppl, professors, scientists, even children in schools)) than we can say that the "Peel P50" (slowest car in the world) will have the same horsepower and can reach the same speed in an hour as the "SSC Tuatara" (the fastest car in the world) simply by being driven by the same man, or (lets widen the circle) simply by being driven by professional racecar drivers, WHEN THEY HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT AND TYPE OF FUEL IN THEIR FUEL TANKS.
From this example we can say that even if the engine is far superior than the other one, it wouldn't make any difference at all, just because you have calculated that the "Peel P50" has an engine that had a max of 60km/h top speed, NO OTHER ENGINE CAN EVER REACH HIGHER SPEEDS NO MATTER HOW YOU DRIVE OR WHO'S DRIVING. (to avoid confusion let's say that every engine has and can have the same kind and amount of fuel)
So (lets go back to our original dilemma) what we have concluded is that no matter what changes i or someone else does to the bike (the one on which your average cyclist can only make 0.02kwh) there would be no way of increasing the amount of power being made, (i will say it once more) no matter what changes are made, no matter at all, the top power it can make and electricity produce would always be the same as from the experiment where from you gathered the informations from.

@Franca Wong Why are you so ignorant, I've seen it being done in person, I've never made a homemade generator but i will, (this is easy to understand what are u now getting here) you continue to go back to the pedal one. The way it works is that the pedals u see in the video have a small coil inbetween them, (the one u can get from an electric motor) within the box from which the pedals come out from and that one doesn't have batteries as u can see, nor it has the capacity or size to power a house. The power that its making is so small, simply because it is a cheap design, because if it was an expensive one majority of the ppl or buyers wouldn't buy it as much compared to if it was portable and cheap.
The bigger the electric motor in between, that spins when u move the two pedals continuously, thanks to the magnets around it produce what u call electricity (thats simply said, the process would take terms to explain that i may misspell, but i have said it simpler and clearer already, so no need for me to explain some school grade electric classes in a comment when u can simply look it up on the net). To power a house u need an electric motor, (you can extract it from almost any electric machine nowadays) and by simply 30minute rewiring tops you can be almost at half the way, next u have the batteries, that u will need to store the excess power u make in the at some point in the day, next to that u will need other kinds of electrical supplies to finish and multiply the power outage of your homemade generator (now those will cost u plenty, next to the batteries that will have a weight on your wallet as well). What u now need is to correctly assemble all of those in order to avoid malfunction or best in the worst to avoid getting smaller power production from your build. I'm once more assuring you that it's possible to make a bike powered generator, like i have said i have already seen it being done and seen it work, problem is not many people know how to do it, and because of that u say its impossible, simply because you haven't seen the people in your circle on which your ego is dependable on do it and you say it's impossible. (ex. When u see and touch water u don't get electrocuted, but how is it then that thank to that same water u have electricity at your house (now this is completely different from what your dilemma is at but is it) now centuries ago people didn't have electricity because they didn't KNOW how to aquire it from that same water)- you would call that impossible as well.

You can buy a pretty good generator for $400 and a nice big power bank for $70. Yes there disadvantages to those but if your prepared you will do way better than cranking on those. Imho...
If Im in an emergency situation, I got better things to do than pedal a friggin stationary bike. In fact, arguably in an emergency your time is your most valuable asset.

I think if I did a review of this I would just charge the battery to full so I could tell people actually how long it takes instead of being like yea it could do it. It would set my review above the rest and all it would take is some pedalling.

This is a really cool Idea, but the execution needs work, I have a hand crank flashlight, it is very dim and turns off quickly when you stop, you will Never be able to charge a phone this way its just too slow and time consuming. There has to be a better way to convert your energy into wattage. Perhaps the gearing on the pedal generator could be altered to spin the alternator faster, or maybe a capacitor system that can store the charge and feed it into the battery over a longer period. If you think about how quickly a car alternator brings your battery voltage from 12 to 14 volts in an instant, I see potential
There are actually a tonne of adaptors for that type of port. You can get one that converts the port into a wall outlet.
Food for thought, they'd probably work with the goal zero batteries, then you've got a way of storing that energy. I imagine that'd give you more options too considering the amount of outputs on their batteries.
You can actually plug power banks into a goal zero battery and increase the capacity impressively. Can't wait for the 21st century version of the goal zero line, they're gonna change the world. I'd connect both use one by hand, one by foot, lol.
