I didn’t know he did the banjo on the song, either. Check out Bobby playing banjo with Bill Monroe

The way Ray Flacke plays the solo is what made me get into playing country guitar, and buy a Telecaster. You can play hybrid country style guitar on other model guitars, but it's honestly always missing something.

I was in a band ( bass player) that opened for Ricky Skaggs in a theatre in Lowell, Mass. I managed to meet Ray Flacke afterwards in nearby bar. What a wonderful guy he was.

I was at the CMA awards setting on the inside...( we owned a recording studio in Illinois my father and I belong to the CMA for seven or eight years and went to the CMA awards every year till I ended up going on the road myself after being on a show called you can be a star ) The show opened up with Ricky Skaggs walking down the aisle towards the stage I believe they were playing heart broke......!!! The night before the country music awards I was at the Jack Daniels bar and got to sit with Charlie Daniels some of his band members and Ray Flack Ray signed my black telecaster pick guard with a white grease pin ....🎵❤️❤️❤️🎶🙏❤️🎶

I love this minor variation on the mandolin break he did on the album, then Bluegrass Boy Bobby Hicks does that crazy chromatic banjo break, the Great Ray Flacke's guitar break, then Bruce Boughton pedal steel (one of the must-know pedal steel songs).

Ricky's voice at the beginning of this has a clear, crystal quality that reminds me a bit of what Chris Thile's doing now. Easier to see the influence here than other places. What a pair!

Ricky never was a hippie; most other contemporary musicians were. It's the reason Earl left Lester. It al depends on who you hang out with. He had a chance, but he went in a right wing direction, hence the leisure suit/styled hair look. Music can transcend religion/politics; Ricky is still a great musician no matter what.
