- Hello everyone. In this video, we will learning how to plant a mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) tree. I am planting this mangosteen tree (G. mangostana) at my farm in Cali, Colombia.
Mangosteen is known as the "Queen of Fruits." This tropical fruit is not only delicious but also has many health benefits.
In Colombia, the mangosteen was an exotic fruit that was introduced in the early 20th century as English explorers landed in Mariquita, Colombia searching for gold and silver. The English explorers had brought a foreign fruit which was mangosteen, from south-east Asia. They saw that the conditions in Mariquita, Colombia, were similar to that of tropical Asia and decided to plant the seeds of mangosteen and create the first mangosteen plantations.
Mangosteen is said to fruit in 7 years from seed, and all these mangosteens I've planted were from seed.

Well done! I have a couple of seedlings here in Uganda 🇺🇬 that I germinated from seed, and plan to plant them in a few months - have had them in the nursery for about 2.5 years. The first one I attempted to plant got sunburnt and stunted. Not many videos online on success stories. Blessings bro.
¡Precioso jardín! Estaría fenómeno un vídeo para germinar ¡Un saludo desde España!
What a coincidence! This morning we went to the local nursery and bought dome Mancut and Durian saplings. I googled Nanhisteen to see how far apart to plantvthem, and your video came up!
I just picked up actually fresh mangosteen from costco in NY. Its hard to describe the taste and texture. Its like orange×banana×quenepas×lychee×rambutan
I am watching my friend, thank you for sharing.
Thank you my friend.
@@gardenflorida You are welcome 🙏
You really love mangosteens!
One of my favorite fruits alongside durian, atemoya and sugar apple.
Nice video bro I love mangosteen
Thanks bro
I like you and your mangosteen ❤
Where you at a farmers market in Florida a couple of weekends ago? I saw someone that looked just like you there. He had a potted pepper plant and was with someone that was carrying a tote bag that had the word Colombia printed on it.
I started growing mangosteens from seeds. after a year they are still standing at about 3 to 4 cm. wow... I why so slow? I water everyday... give them coffee and tea and some new soil. its true that they don t like too much sun. because I moved a few around... in Lao PDR people tell me they can only be grown in Thailand where the weather is just a bit hotter.
Where did u get the mangosteen trees from? Because I've been wanting to grow mangosteen also
beautiful
Thank you! I love mangosteen
When I used to vacation in Thailand, the area around Chantaburi is thick with rambutan, mangosteen, sugar apple, durian, rubber trees, etc. Mangosteen (Mangkhut in Thai) is a very slow growing large tree that has to have a very tropical climate. I eat my body weight in these because NOTHING tastes like mangosteen. Dirt cheap in Thailand.
I was in Chantaburi actaually last year and I stayed in a hotel that was surrounded by Mankhud and Durian trees - it was magical. I will be returning to Thailand this year in 2023 I cant wait.
Can you share the contact in Ecuador for the grafted durian, thanks.
😮😮😮😮😮❤❤❤❤
Hey I’m in central Florida also do you sell grafts or cuttings?
Can you do an update of your Punta Gorda farm? I’d love to see how all the trees are doing that you planted a couple years ago.
Any luck with your Mangosteen? Update please.
Hello do you know where i can buy 1 or 2 Mangosteen tree (grafted) ?
Hi Harley. It's a relief to know the couple mangosteen trees I have at home are growing well since they are exactly as big as yours with the same age. I bought them in Mariquita and they are planted in the Valle del cauca too...but a little bit north. Big hug Bro.
Very nice!
And just bu curiosity. What do you for living?
It would be nice to have a videos showing all plants you have there! 😃
Thank you, I am website developer. I will do a video soon of all my plants.
Hola from Bucaramanga
Hola from Florida, USA
What do they call sugar apples in Colombia? We bought some on the road yesterday and my wife and mother in law both said “no that’s cherimoya”
@@mwnemo yeah they call everything cherimoya or anon there which is confusing. Rollinia is even called cherimoya
How to make them grow & fruit faster
Hey, want to plant it, but I'm concerned that it will freeze. there is -5 C temperature couple of times in winter. will it get trough that?
wont survive negatives most likley, same issue here
Aren't the mangosteens you planted too close to the other trees? They grow HUGE here in the Philippines.
Yeah, they grow Huge here in Colombia as well. They are planted a little close but its for the reason that they need shade when younger. Also As they mangosteens grow more I will be removing the other trees and shrubs so the mangosteens can grow without worrying about space around them.
what is the plant on the right side of the screen at 7:43. I love the look of the leaves. Is it an Anona or perhaps a Garcina?
That is a Annona deliciosa or Rollinia!
@@gardenflorida thank you!
Hi did where did your purchased that plant? Was it at the flea market?
This nursery was in Colombia 🇨🇴 Cali
I was just wondering does Mangosteen grow well in South Florida??
It does not unless with much care - there was someone by the name or Paulette I believe who fruited a mangosteen from a seed she planted in south florida.
