Building Chords in Zappa's Moggio

This is a continuation from last week's video of my rendition of Zappa's Moggio. Here I discuss the process of reharmonisation, performing melody, chords and bass lines simultaneously, as well as the challenge of filling in the harmonic gaps in the piece.

Second question: I am obsessed with recreating Zappas Guitar Tones. After a lot of experimentation I have come to the conclusion that you can cover a lot of ground with just a cocked wah for the 70s sound (as the icing on the cake you can add the TWA Triskelion), sometimes you can add also a Fuzz (for example for Songs from Bongo and Fury or the Song Apostrophe) and whatever amp you like ( I have a Quad Cortex). The clean 80s sound is more complicated. A nice pedal for this is the Quantum Time Modulator. Anyway there are two songs on my list where I never find relieve. I am always searching for that perfect tone and never reach it. The two songs are Yo Mama (some kind of chorus and distortion is going on) and Any kind of pain (lovely clean Strat Sound).

I'll be surprised if you don't already know this but are you aware that 'What's New In Baltimore' from 'The Mothers of Prevention' album - those beautiful arpeggiated chords played by Steve Vai - originally functioned as the chords to "Moggio'? They can be superimosed onto Moggio and they fit like a glove.

I bought this album because the cover was just so messed up as a 14 year old in late 1980s...and didn't a decade later how truly remarkable the music was...it was just such a thrown together album with some amazing tracks like Jazz Discharge, Dangerous Kitchen, Maggio, and Tink Walks Amok...But with such throw away tracks like Man from Utopia...But those throw away tracks kinda appealed to the young person and was the gateway to far more serious music which I may never have picked up
