    This race and the NASCAR "worst race ever" have a lot in common...bad tires, most regulars not racing, and stubborn leadership that is unwilling to do what is best for the sport.

    As a proud born and raised Hoosier (Indiana native) it is disappointing to me that Indy lost its F1 date due to this ridiculousness. Now that Pirelli has proven that they can make good tires for racing on 19° banked corners at Zandvoort, I say that Indy should get another chance, even if it's just a special event for no points the week before COTA.

    I remember that race. and calling its a debacle doesn't come close to describing how bad this was. Formula 1 is fortunate to even have a race in the U.S. after that, as many American racing fans haven't forgotten the black eye it gave F1 in this country to this day. Plus there being no American driver competing for the top spot in F! since Mario Andretti, or that oval track racing is overwhelmingly king in North America.

    Fun fact - I was at this race with my dad (I was 10 at the time) and stayed for the whole thing. As weird as it was, I was a Ferrari fangirl at the time, so I 100% didn't mind lol. Also he's being dramatic when he says there were "incensed mobs" - that didn't happen. People were pissed and trying to get their money back, but it was nowhere near as bad as he makes it seem.

      @@kabirconsiders Absolutely amazing! Our seats were in Indy Turn 4/F1 Turn 1, so not only could you see the cars going down the front straight at 210mph, but also the insane deceleration for T1. That, and the way the track was set up meant you could see the cars pretty much all the way from Turn 13 to Turn 6.
      As much as 2005 sucked, they've added a chicane to that part of the track now and I want F1 to come back so badly! Sure we've got COTA, but that's in TX (three days of driving away from me), and the history and fan experience at Indianapolis is unrivaled. And Indy is still an FIA Grade 1 circuit. Make it happen already!

    This is why F1 is so unpopular in the US. F1 had a perfect window to rise as NASCAR had just peaked and was about to hit a slump. Indycar was in the midst of its split and had lost not yet reunited and recovered. If F1 was around in America from about this whole time they could have overtaken both local motorsports. But due to this race they wouldn’t come back until 2012 dooming their expansion efforts.
    In my opinion it’s kind of a good thing. As much as I love F1 i hold my native series near and dear to my heart. Losing them to F1 would really hurt a lot of diehard American fans.

    • @kay_sou
      @kay_sou 3 роки тому +1

      I don't think F1 would have ever overtaken NASCAR or Indycar in America. Most of the races are in Europe and take place at 8 or 9 AM EST on a Sunday where many Americans will either be asleep or getting ready to go to church. It's even worse on the west coast where European races start at 5 or 6AM. In an age of social media, not as many people are going to tune in and watch a rerun when they can just watch highlights on UA-cam or check the results on twitter. Maybe we would have gotten a few more European night races to accommodate the Americans a bit, but it'd still be tough for F1 to ever be the top dog over here.

    There's debate as to whether or not the Belgian Grand Prix this year was a worse race...or whether it could even be considered a race....
    6:18 They also own the Atlanta Braves baseball team.
    7:27 Actually, Josh Revell did a brilliant video on F1's failures in New York, called "Why Formula 1 FAILED in New York".
    Tyler Barth also did a video zeroing in on the failure of the Grand Prix of America at the Port Imperial Street circuit, called "The Race We Didn't Need: The New Jersey Grand Prix At Port Imperial".
    13:37 ...and Tony Stewart (the same Tony Stewart who is currently co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing) got injured in a pair of early-race incidents (one in the Busch [now Xfinity] race, another in the Coca-Cola 600).
    The worst thing, is Bridgestone had enough tires to supply every team, but the FIA and Ferrari blocked it (and Jean Todt [yes, current FIA president Jean Todt] was GM, CEO, and special advisor at Ferrari at the time).
    Now, check out Black Flags Matter's latest video, The Worst Indy 500, and S1apSh0es' other tire war video, "Blood on the Asphalt: The NASCAR Tire Wars of 1988-89 and 1994".

    • @kay_sou
      @kay_sou 3 роки тому

      @@rdfox76 I'm not saying that S1ap is wrong or anything. It was the worst race at the time. Belgium officially qualifies as a race as it awarded points, and that is the sole reason it's such a joke. If they just cancelled the thing no one would be talking about it. It'd be like if you played 1 half of an inning of baseball, the batting team scored a run, and you then called the game and gave them the win.

    2:10 FIA determined it to be the trailing driver's fault, and with Verstappen's penalty, the team may chose to install a new engine, and move him to start from pit lane anyway.
    ua-cam.com/video/k660y7johY0/v-deo.html Scott Mansell, however, thinks the penalty is unfortunate and should not had been levied, and just put it down as "Racing Incident" because as a driver himself, he'd probably do something similar as well.

If you want see real racing go to any local asphalt or dirt track. The world of outlaws sprint cars puts on a great show on dirt. i thought yesterdays race was so so good as well. i'm not sure if youve mentioned what team/driver youre mainly a fan of but i think everyone is a ricciardo fan deep down whether they know it or not. SO glad lewis is okay, the halo absolutely saved his life. i dont care how ugly people think the halo is, its the best modern f1 invention imo. we saw it with romain and lewis, and multiple other times. i heard lewis is going to have to see a neck specialist to make sure everything is okay. that crash was absolutely terrifying. i do agree that part of what makes max so so so good is his aggression, but i personally think he has some maturing to do because he always blames it on the other driver and rarely takes full responsibility for his incidents with other drivers on track, but maybe that is just something that comes with time. (and maybe i am a biased hamilton fan. i absolutely recognize max's unbelievable and generational talent, though). as for formula 1 in the states, most people dont know about it and have never heard about it because when you think of racing in the US, you think NASCAR and indycar, so people dont focus much on f1 in the grand scheme of things. its growing here though, for sure, though i think drive to survive is also helpful in that regard. they tried to have an f1 race in new york (the track was in new jersey, actually, but close enough, it was very close to new york) but it never happened, i just remember that vettel went to test it out and thats the only reason i remember it at all. new york city is just so small and compact that i dont see a place where a race could realistically occur there, but i agree, that would be the absolutely incredible. i think austin is great, and im looking forward to seeing how the miami race plays out.
