    I also burn everything bigger than a pencil, and build stuff to make life easier. You have so many good ideas that I never thought of. Some of your projects are super great the way you design and don’t cut corners. Most people would have used a bolt through a pipe instead of bearings. I love your videos. Stay safe

    I made something like this to speed up the branch clean up from a big maple two years ago. Wish I had a trailer like yours to drop the cut offs into instead of having to pick up off the ground. Enjoy watching your vids. Keep them coming please.

    Nice! Maybe you can make a pedal for chainsaw controlling. When you step on the pedal you rev up the engine and when you tilt the pedal then the saw will cut. So you can use both hands. Pedal is on the ground, connected with car brake cables so you are able to move around. Or it will do both at the same time when you step on it. Then only one cable needed.

      Yup, that thought crossed my mind, but... I didn't want to attach the chainsaw permanently to this contraption since connecting the throttle lock release and throttle trigger itself would've required more intricate engineering if I still wanted the saw to be quickly releasable and I do have to refill the fuel and oil tanks from time to time or use the chainsaw in the regular way too. So I went with the light version of it. :D

Now im graduated and free.feeling happy to see this video and thank you for sharing creative&very useful technique.... 🙏

    Really nice...
    -Is the locking wing nut not long ? you didn't poke in it with your waist ?
    -Do you think a rail on the trailer's length,or just an other pole in the middle of the trailer could be beneficial,to avoid to move the log,once cut ?
    You could adjust the chainsaw's position along the trailer, to cut the log and let if fall in the trailer in one motion,for each stack ?

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 років тому

      Nope, didn't poke into the locking bolt with my waist.
      I can attach this cutter to the center post so I could fill the front of the trailer first without moving the pieces by hand. I just wanted to keep this design simple and easily portable. I still have to move the pieces by hand no matter what since they tend to pile up just underneath the saw.

      It came to my mind that with this chainsaw accessory, if you adjust the hand in a way you can control it while you hold the branches of wood

  • @anthonymedford5380

  • @matthewtorok8110

    If it were me I would also make an end stop that clamps over the wooden side of the trailer, and so you can move it along to set a end stop so all the logs are pretty much the same lengths without thinking, although I can see that you did a very good job of cutting them all the same anyway. And as other suggested a foot pedal would also be a cool addition to make it easier to control.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 років тому +1

      I marked a line on the edge of the wooden dump box. So I roughly lined it up with the line and got 50 cm pieces. I thought about a limiter but the branches are so curved that the end stop plate would have to be with a huge surface area to catch the end of most of the branches.

    • @matthewtorok8110
      @matthewtorok8110 6 років тому

      @@DonnDIY Ok, that basically achieved the same then. I would have just made a small limiter plate, and even when the branches don't touch it you have something to line them up with, but that pencil mark is an easier way to do the same thing. Good work.

    • @DonnDIY

    Nice job Donn. I was a little concerned about how close you got to the chainsaw bar. Is it possible to make a bar shield that will protect you from contact with the bar and yet stay out of the way when you cut the logs?
    Also do you dry your logs before burning to increase your heat return per log when burnt?

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  6 років тому

      The chain has stopped when I reach over to handle the pieces. No need for a guard if I personally use it. If I'd let someone else use it now that would be a different story. Yes, I do dry the branches before heating the house with'em.

    I like the attachment but thought it was going on the splitting machine so a little let down. I see how this is beneficial for someone to get consistent length as it just make the stove work at its very best. I don't think that your done in that planning development that you took possession of. I have seen so much of what you can do and just don't think this is the end. I can believe that the wood that you cut today won't be burnt this year but either next or even two years from now as I see your taking care of the people that you love so dear.

    Greetings, thank you for sharing a wonderful video with the rest of us out here.
    I was wondering if you would any plans on selling this attachment for the ones of us out here that don't have a machine shop. I think it would be greatly appreciated by many out here cutting firewood. Thank you, dd

      No plans, I just whipped it up on the spot from the pieces I had in that scrap steel drawer. This is really basic stuff, anyone can build it. ;)

      @@DonnDIY Thank you for replying back. I understand this is basic stuff, but there is a lot of men and women believe it or not that actually has to cut firewood by themselves and has absolutely no idea how to make anything mechanical and I thought this attachment, if available would be of considerable help to all those people that doesn't have any mechanical skills or equipment to make things like this. Thank you again. dd
